Young RJ – “I Know” feat. Phat Kat x Guilty Simpson
Ain’t no middle class nowadays. Either you’re poor or you’re rich.
Yessir! That boom-bap-kick-slap beat is perfect for the heads that love Hip-Hop from The Glove! Young RJ, Phat Kat, and Guilty Simpson do the damn dang thang for The D! Spitting that truth in the booth! You and “I Know.”
Young RJ – “Blaq Royalty” (Album Stream)
Impressive for a debut LP. Although heads are like, “about damn time, RJ,” it is still a debut. It’s been said you are known by the company you keep. Applied to a project… known by the features. So peep: J Ivy, Pete Rock, Boldy James, BJ The Chicago Kid, Joyner Lucas, Statik Selektah, Supa Kaine, and Guilty Simpson. That’s a LOT of DOPE company! Enjoy this FREE stream.
Young RJ – “Issues” feat. BJ The Chicago Kid
Young RJ produced and hocked some hot spit on this “Issues” joint with BJ The Chicago Kid. Co-production credit to Dag. Dope lyricism over a cool azz beat. Well done!
Rapper Big Pooh – “The Recipe – Intro” (Prod. By Khrysis x Young RJ)
Suffice it to say, most music-making (esp. rap music) has a story behind it. But maaaan, this story takes a deep breath before & after to tell.
Back in 2008-2009 after the idea and talks of a Slum Village/Little Brother album faded amongst us…Young RJ and I started working on a project called The Recipe. While working on the project I became obsessed with finding the right joint to start the album off. Khrysis (he was engineering the recording for me in NC) plays this beat that I deemed, “the one.” Even though it wasn’t his production, I convinced Young RJ that this was what we needed to start our album off. He stripped the original version down and built it back up around the sample Khrysis used. I hit DJ Babu for the cuts and we were ready to rock. After The Recipe stalled while we were trying to get the business side straight, Slum Village started working on Villa Manifesto. I was asked about giving this track to Slum for their album but I refused, still planning on finishing and using it for The Recipe. Scrap Dirty made the OG call and gave it to Slum and it became Bare Witness, their intro track for Villa Manifesto. Here is my unmixed, unmastered, and unreleased version of The Recipe – Intro.
– Rapper Big Pooh
This is pretty much as ‘raw uncut’ as raw uncut Hip-Hop can get. Enjoy and appreciate this finally-released gold nugget! Also, just think for a minute about the Slum Village/Little Brother album that might’ve been. WHEW!

The Action Figures – “Homebound” (Produced By Young RJ Of Slum Village)
As much as artists out here want that love from the place they rep, many will tell you: It’s hard to be a hero in your hometown.
Sometimes home isn’t where the heart is until you’re appreciated elsewhere. Regardless, there’s still no place like it.
– The Action Figures
Check out the lyrics from The Action Figures on “Homebound.” Solid beat by Young RJ (of Slum Village). This will be on the “Powers” mixtape from Statik Selektah.

Slum Village – “Yes Yes” (Video)
Straight outta the D! Detroit’s finest trio, Slum Village, returns with a brand new video directed by Ryan Lightbourn for the J Dilla produced track ‘Yes Yes’ that we posted up here on the site about a month ago. To coincide with the name of their upcoming EP called “Vintage”, the video finds T3, illa J, & Young RJ taking things back with that visually vintage 70s & 80s vibe.
Slum Village – “Yes Yes”
J Dilla would have been 40 years old today February 7th. As people around the world celebrate the greatness of the Detroit producer & emcee James Yancey aka Jay Dee aka J Dilla, his brother Illa J & the remaining members of Slum Village (T3 & Young RJ), let loose this joint appropriately titled ‘Yes Yes’. ‘Yes Yes’ is fitting as fans are happy to know Slum Village has a new album coming featuring more J Dilla production from the period when he was going by the name Jay Dee. Black Milk & Young RJ are also expected to provide some musical soundscapes as well. Rest in Peace J Dilla Dawg!

Slum Village – “Turning Me Off” feat. De La Soul (Prod. Young RJ)
Slum Village 3.0 is the nickname I’ve given the group for 2012 in my recent interview with the brothas. Despite the passing of founding members Baatin & J Dilla, & the subsequent departure of Elzhi from the group, T3 picks up the torch & leads the new Slum Village forward with J Dilla’s younger brother Illa J & the kid Dilla taught how to make beats.. Young RJ. This new joint “Turning Me Off” featuring De La Soul is the first single off the upcoming “Dirty Slums” mixtape hosted by Mick Boogie & featuring Rapper Big Pooh, Skyzoo, Big Sean, Phife Dawg, Phonte, Focus…, Joe Scudda and Chicago emcee Vice Verse. The Dirty Slums mixtape drops March 27th…..

Focus… – “Just 4 U” featuring L.E., Young RJ, Dae One, & Willie B
New banger from one of my favorite producers in the game & easily the most underrated producer in the business period! Focus… is also rhyming on this joint & he brought along a few friends who also double as producers in Detroit’s Young RJ, L.E., Cali’s Dae One, & Willie B. The track appears on the deluxe version of the “Music Of The Misinterpreted” album. BANGER!!!! Just 4 Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu….
