L.A. to The Bay (Documentary)
Like most anything, folks who don’t know what they are looking at will miss some things. Case in point: Y’all know the West Coast is not just some monolithic thing, right?
(If not, just nod along like you do. We got you after the jump below.)
Check out this BET documentary released in the buildup for The BET Experience. It’s entitled “L.A. To The Bay” and provides a good overarching look at two major pockets of music and culture that make up Hip-Hop out there in Cali. Competitive rivalry to making inroads. Up-and-comers and industry vets (including DJ Quik, E-40, Nipsey Hu$$le, Ty Dolla $ign, DJ Mustard, HBK Gang, Problem, Bad Lucc, Bobby Brackins). Heavy baselines, g-funk, 808s and storylines. Gangbanging and pimping. And more. Let’s get some Left Coast perspective, shall we? Hit the jump below and click play.
Pac Div – ‘Rollin’ (Video)
This is one of my favorite Pac Div songs from their ‘Don’t Mention It’ free album that dropped last year. This is an in-studio video that they just dropped, but the brothas need to go ahead & shoot a full fledged video for this joint in my opinion. If not I’m still good with this though. The song is one of my favorites to ride too especially on a warm sunny day. Keep Rolllin’ Rollin’ Rollinnnnnnn…. Whoaaa Whoaaaaaa!
Self Scientific – ‘Trials Of The BlackHearted’ (EP)
Good to see Self Scientific release a a brand new project after years of separation. Chace Infinite has been dropping various freestyles here & there in addition to working with his Soul Assassins family, while DJ Khalil has been crafting audio crack for many other emcees in the game from Raekwon, Dr. Dre, Jim Jones, & a host of others. Its’ about time Chace & Khalil reconnected. We needed this from the two man group considering I’m still occasionally bumping their Gods & Gangsters project from time to time.
