Without a doubt this is one of my favorite rap songs of the past year off Wale’s latest album “Ambition”. Not only does the song sound dope from a production standpoint, but Wale, Rick Ross, & Meek Mill seem to capture the stress of the average black man trying to make in it America. Far too often people see all the successes but forget the struggle to get to those trophies. This song is about every man who has some ambition to be greater than their immediate conditions. It’s no secret why I was bangin’ this song out on my radio show….

MTV Names Their Hottest Rappers In The Game For 2012 (Video)

I labeled this as “MTV’s Hottest Emcees Rappers In The Game” because not everyone on this list is an “emcee”….some are just rappers or singers. Either way it is what it is…Rap lists these days don’t hold much weight, but if you’re a real hip hop head like myself then you’ll chuckle out loud at some of things said by people on this panel. Ah well…What’d you expect from MTV & the current state of radio & rap music these days…Overall it’s just a reflection of how bad “mainstream” rap music is. There’s plenty of great music out there, but most of it ISN’T on the radio unfortunately. One thing I was surprised about was seeing the homie @BosNaud was on this panel. I haven’t looked at all the vids as of yet so I hope he represented well. I’ve had this song on repeat several times since hearing it for the first time last night. “Ambition” is the title track to Wale’s new album dropping on Tuesday November 1st. Not only the does the production feel really warm & fits the mood, but the lyrics from three different brothas from different backgrounds with hopes & aspirations really comes across well. I agree with Wale 100% when it comes to Lebron James in this episode of ESPN’s First Take. People don’t give King James enough credit for his talent & especially when he’s only 26 & has been to the NBA Finals twice & has a great all around game. Give credit where credit is due & Lebron James still has time to earn plenty of rings. He’s only 26.

I dug this song the very first time I heard it & I’m still not tired of it. I’m largely drawn to the instrumentation & Jeremih’s lyrics & vocal tone on the hook. This song feels like a Rick Ross song more than Wale’s but it’s all Maybach Music Group anyway. The visuals look good too….

New R&B: Range featuring Wale – ‘Beautiful You Are’

Philadelphia singer & songwriter ‘Range’ is the latest signee to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. Now currently residing in Queens NY, the 24 year old artist has been behind the scenes writing songs for other artist for few years now. He’s also wrote the hook to Ludacris’s hit single ‘One More Drink’ that features T-Pain. I believe this is his first solo offering as an artist stepping out into the spotlight & it sounds pretty good. I don’t particularly think Wale was necessary on it, but its the music business & maybe they felt it would get more attention for a relatively new artist who’s been predominantly behind the scenes early in his career.

I was feeling this song the first time I heard it despite the heavy luxury big baller references in the lyrics. Maybe it was the production of the track more so than the lyrics itself that caught my attention the most. Those Justice League dudes really do some great work on the production of many of Rick Ross’s bangers. I think Philly’s Meek Mill has a very good opportunity to develop as a artist as long as he constantly elevates his bars. Looks like that whole Maybach Music machine is already there for him to get the proper push, but he must stay cognizant to keeping his lyrics sharp. Maybach Music’s ‘Self Made’ album drops May 24th just before the Memorial Day Weekend….
