VICE: New Ebola Outbreak In Liberia (Video)
“Ebola is one of those words. You can say it anywhere in the world; and it evokes fear.”
– Dr. Joseph Fair
This is real life; not a Dustin Hoffman movie. West Africa is being plagued by a new outbreak of Ebola—a. Victims bleed to death from the inside out. There is no cure, and the epidemic is spreading fast.
VICE News is on it, to arm us… with information. Being informed and aware are critical at this stage. VICE News went to Liberia, where many feel the outbreak began. Western scientists feel that the preparation and consumption of meat from monkeys, fruit bats, and other forest animals – collectively referred to as bush meat – is behind the disease transmission. If left uncontrolled, Ebola, Ebola—a or a similar disease could kill a third of the world’s population.

VICE: How To Hack A Car (Video)
Really? The damn cars are under attack? Wow. We’re not talking ‘Transformers’ here. Vehicles (probably like yours) are vulnerable to cyber attack…now! VICE brings us the story (via Motherboard).
In this episode of Phreaked Out…Information security researcher Mathew Solnik gave us a first-hand demonstration on how to wirelessly send commands to a car and remotely tell it what to do. With a little over a grand and about a month of work, Solnik found time outside of his full-time job to reverse-engineer a car’s computer system to make it ready for a takeover.

VICE: The Rise of Penal Implants (Video)
Hey…stop groaning at the title, and watch the video. Hahaha (by the way, you should see what VICE came up with for a title)! Good insights as usual.
Penile implants have become a popular treatment option for erectile dysfunction—a health complication that more than 30 million men suffer from in the United States alone. The surgery consists of placing an inflatable prosthesis within a man’s member that is attached to a soft ball that sits in the scrotum. When the ball is pumped, the penis remains hard for as long as the man wants. Most individuals that undergo the operation are satisfied with their implant, but the unlucky two to three percent experience infections that can lead to death, mangled parts, and more.
VICE spoke with a leading doctor in the field. Find out what it’s worth [and whether it’s worth it] to get your penis operated on in the episode above.
So, there are legit reasons for the risk; but could it be that some dudes are trying to keep up with the honeyz “enhancing” their derrieres (see earlier post here)??
VICE: Exposing The ‘Backyard Exotics’ Trade (Video)
Insanity. Inhumanity. And we call them animals… but the folks involved should be in cages. What’s worse: A lot of these ‘backyard exotics’ dealers and buyers, in it for the money and/or novelty, have no idea how dangerous the trade and care of these wild animals can be.
A lot of these animals are incredibly friendly. But that doesn’t mean they’re safe. These animals will kill you because they like you. ‘Hi. Let’s play… Oh. You broke…”
VICE covers the story and goes undercover to give us an inside look at a business working the inhumane, dangerous, but lucrative, $19 billion wildlife trafficking industry.
VICE: Corruption, Cocaine, & Murder in Trinidad (Video)
VICE News visited the slums of Port of Spain and spoke with police, activists, community leaders, and gangsters to understand the country’s decade-plus spike in killings [more than tripling over the past 15 years]. Many of the murders are attributed to ruthless and politically connected street gangs who control territories that are sometimes no larger than a city block. The gangs fight over lucrative government contracts meant to provide social services and combat unemployment.
But gang violence is just where the problems start. Trinidad has become an important stop for drugs headed to West Africa and the United States. The “big fish” keeping and growing the country into a mega narco-state — the political and business elite.
Action Bronson Debuts New Food Series with VICE (Video)
So, VICE has this channel called Munchies. How best to program for it. Episodes featuring Action Bronson… a food series featuring Bronson… absolutely! So, here’s Episode 1 of A.B.’s eat-great-grub worldwide food series for VICE Munchies. Bronson gets at Roberta’s in Brooklyn for pasta, reflects on food on treks to New Zealand and South Africa, tasty time back stateside at Eddie’s Sweet Shop (great shake). F*ck, That’s Delicious (hey, that’d be a dope name for the series, right?)…yeah!
Fresh Off the Boat With Eddie Huang: Season 2 Bloopers And Outtakes (Video)
Like N.O.R.E. told you, “Mistakes is what makes things perfect.” – Eddie Huang
Well, would you look at that. Bonus footage… well, leftovers… from the freshly wrapped Season 2 of Fresh Off the Boat With Eddie Huang. Great Vice programming; and the boss (Shane Smith) even shows up in the clips above. If you’ve watched the episodes we’ve posted, you probably got a feel that Eddie is a balance of cool and kooky. Watch above and see how right you are.
Fresh Off the Boat With Eddie Huang: Chengdu (Video)
Part 1, Fresh Off The Boat in Chengdu, Eddie (a.k.a. the Human Panda) is at home with his ‘interracial’ fam (e.g. black and white pandas). Talking about and watching pandas. Don’t forget about the panda porn, either (what? yeah). Trekking Chengdu with Eddie and DJ SuperBestFriend (a.k.a. Rabbi), we experience traditions, food and culture… much of which is diminishing as time passes. After the jump, part 2 picks up with Eddie enjoying the fine Chinese living – chilling in the Dead Sea Resort, taking a refreshing salt burial, a dip in a big (translation: crowded) swimming pool, and later tasting on some baby pig penis (what? yeah). Then part 3 wraps with an exploration of Chengdu culture going forward: a look at Szechuan cooking from a master chef, a visit to the sculpture factory of a feature artist, a climb into a tree-house parlor for Taiwanese tea, and a round table discussion with different generations of Chinese to discuss cultural preservation as China moves forward and becomes open to the rest of the world.
Fantastic episode! Well worth the watch, as usual.
VICE: The Devil Tried To Divide Us (Documentary)
There are REASONS we have rules for wars… that nations declare war, seek coalitions before they do, and convene war crimes courts after. The ongoing tragedy in the Central African Republic though… Damn. There have been no rules, no understandings, and countless crimes against humanity… for DECADES… and it has just gotten worse! VICE News is taking us there. They have to, so we can try to understand. Watch above.

Snake Island (Mini-Documentary)
Home to the highest concentration of venomous snakes in the world, about 90 miles off the coast of Santos, Brazil, is Ilha da Queimada Grande, or “Snake Island”. Two thousand species of deadly snake; and the baddest of the bad – the golden lancehead viper is home on Snake Island and nowhere else in the world.
So you don’t have to worry about this snake… unless you are VICE and you are going there to get the story. Watch… dare you!
Permanently Temporary: The Truth About Temp Labor (Documentary)
President Obama is on board with BIG retailers like Amazon, driving economic renewal AND employing more and more people with American jobs that cannot be outsourced.
Yay… right? No.
Temp labor is one of the fastest growing industries in the US. Increasingly, temp workers are part of a business strategy to keep costs down and profits high.
From mega-retailers to mom-and-pop shops, temps are hired to do some of the hardest and most dangerous jobs. While more and more of the American workforce is composed of temporary workers, they’re largely hidden from public view. Many of these workers stay silent, often having their livelihoods threatened if they speak out.
But that’s what VICE is best at doing: shedding light on shameful practices and telling the stories of people for whom it would be too dangerous to tell themselves. Damn shame that the largest corporations, time and again, ride the road to success on the backs of laborers with no regard to their interests or even their well-being… at all. Watch the documentary above. Learn.
VICE: Nest Of Giants (Video)
Iceland has a reputation in the World’s Strongest Man competition that stands higher than perhaps any other country’s. VICE went out there to investigate why this small, black rock in the middle of the ocean produces such strong people. Hanging out at Jakabol (translates to “Nest Of Giants”) — a gym run by ex-champion Magnus Ver Magnusson and meeting Hafthor “Thor” Bjornsson, the 6’9″ star of Game of Thrones.
VICE: Jamaican Herb Business (Video)
Hold the phone. Marjuana is still illegal in Jamaica.
That may well change though, as Western powers pressured the island nation to tamp down production and export of its cultural crop are now reconsidering their stances on ganja en masse. At the forefront of stirring change for the country: Jamaica’s first medicinal marijuana company, Medicanja, launched this year against a backdrop of reinvigorated debate around ganja law reform among leading policymakers. Renowned Jamaican scientist Dr. Henry Lowe, a leader in THC studies for medical purposes, is running the company, with the University of West Indies and the University of Technology jointly funding the facility. Dr. Lowe says the company will be studying the scientific benefits of marijuana and producing CBD-based medical products, which fall under legally accepted medicinal use of the ganja plant. Lowe says the plant extract can be used to treat psychosis and severe pain, as well as mid-life crises in men.
VICE: Kingdom Of The Little People (Video)
Annette Lamothe-Ramos of The VICE Guide to Travel takes us to and on tour of the controversial theme park, Kingdom of the Little People.
In a land far, far away, love flourishes in a kingdom quite unlike any other. In mushroom-shaped homes and old dormitories, a community of dwarfs—all less than 51 inches tall—can be found singing, dancing, and performing on a daily basis for visiting tourists.
VICE: Life As A Truck-Stop Stripper (Documentary)
VICE content from correspondents Natalia Leite and Alexandra Roxo. Their roadshow gone Gonzo – called Every Woman – has them traveling, living and working in different women’s jobs and documenting the experience. Makes for interesting viewing, especially this episode which details their time as strippers at a truck-stop.
Everyone knows what charming places strip clubs can be, but perhaps there is no club so charming as one in Moriarty, New Mexico—a truck stop with taxidermy and the bras of former employees on the walls, a few poles, a shitload of black light, and plenty of titties. Never mind that The Ultimate Strip Club List website describes it as the place “where strippers go to die.â€
Yeah… another score for VICE! Start with Part 1 above, and finish with the ladies (Parts 2 and 3) after the jump.
Swaziland: Gold Mine Of Marijuana (Video)
Smokers are gonna get high on the greenery scenery to start in the video above, but stick around and take in the economic reality that drives grandmas and other good people into this business. It stinks (and not in the good way). People are just making a living the only way they can, by farming the only tax-exempt produce in Swaziland. That ‘tax exempt’ part is a huge loophole favoring growers in the sub-Saharan monarchy’s economy. Everything else is taxed to hell in a land where 2/3 of the population lives below the poverty line. So Swazi weed is not just a means of escape from the day’s humdrum or from the ails of the AIDS epidemic gripping the populace; but probably the only way to any level of prosperity for the citizenry.
Swaziland is a landlocked country sandwiched between South Africa and Mozambique. Despite Swaziland’s small size, it boasts more hectares of land dedicated to growing Cannabis than all of India. It is also home to Swazi Gold, the legendary sativa strain.
Hamilton Morris travels to Swaziland hoping to chemically analyze the cannabinoids present in some of the local strains. Instead, he finds a country steeped in political corruption and economic turmoil. Cannabis is viewed by many growers, users, and politicians as a drug that will cause insanity, but it may be Swaziland’s only hope for economic stability.
VICE: Buttloads Of Pain (Video)
Wow. I know you’ve heard something on this, but now VICE is on this. The real story will be told now. And as you already know, back-alley butt enhancement injections are NOT good. They are bad… dangerous… deadly!
[It] was the transgender community that really pioneered the backroom butt-injection scene in the 1980s and 90s. For a male transitioning to a female at that time, it was a ridiculous notion to think that insurance would foot the bill… [But the] phenomenon of butt pumping has even crept into popular culture. Every time Kim Kardashian or Jennifer Lopez wears a swimsuit, tabloids and gossip websites furiously debate whether their bodacious butts are the result of an intense squat regimen or ass injections. Former stripper and hip-hop model Vanity Wonder, who boasts ample 34-23-45 curves, wrote a book about her addiction to illegal butt shots and the 16-plus times she had her butt pumped up. Nicki Minaj, who is known for her huge rump almost as much as for her platinum-selling albums [even raps about it on her] guest verse on the remix of Big Sean’s ‘Dance (A$$)’: “Kiss my ass and my anus, ’cause it’s finally famous / And it’s finally soft, yeah, it’s finally solved! / I don’t know, man, guess them ass shots wore off!â€
– VICE
But WHY would anyone do this? Man, click to play above, watch, and learn. Y’all know we love a thick backside on here, but this illegal back-alley life-threatening sh!t must cease! Getting an ass to die for ain’t worth dying for.
It’s important to point out that there are legal butt-enhancing procedures. The FDA deems both implants and fat transfer—where fat is liposuctioned from areas like the patient’s stomach and transferred to his or her fanny—to be safe when conducted by a board-certified plastic surgeon. However, many women choose the black-market procedure to save money. Legal implants and fat transfers can cost up to $10,000 more than their illicit counterparts.

VICE: Kim Dotcom, Founder Of Megaupload, Speaks on Internet Freedom from His New Zealand Mansion While On House Arrest (Video)
On house arrest in the Dotcom Mansion, big-crazy-rich-guy-who-does-crazy-things Kim Dotcom (founder of Megaupload) is still, a year later, in the wake of the storm unleashed by enforcement agencies of the United States and Australia; waiting on possible extradition and trial. His case, from his point of view, is about Internet freedom (and fighting government infringement and takeover). Flash video, cell-phone video-conferencing… all to Kim’s credit. So, the pioneer/businessman is not lying down.
“I’m f*cking tired of this nonsense. Someone needs to stand up…”
– Kim Dotcom
Not lying down; but in the meantime, laying down some music at the mansion (in Auckland, New Zealand). Nice. Tim Pool (interviewing Kim for VICE) got to lay down some backup vocals for Kim’s upcoming EDM album – and ride his Segway cycle – while talking about online surveillance, file-sharing, gaming, Kim’s controversial case, and more.
VICE: Fresh Off The Boat With Eddie Huang In London (Video)
Ah, Great Britain. Ye old country. So much to do there, and Eddie is ‘Straight Off The Boat’ trying to do it. Another 3-part video episode. Above (part 1), we start in Brick Lane – where the Middle East meets the West. This East London community is now home to Turks, Jews, Bengalis and the food they eat… Cricket anyone (to play, not to eat… blechk)? Then there’s breakfast you can’t refuse and some sexy photography (in part two); and to wrap, some community involvement and more food (in part three).
That’s the short version. Check after the jump for parts two and three to view the rest of the story(ies). Eddie Huang does it again!
