Yes! Please, please let this happen like it’s supposed to… and catch on. We (looking at you U.S.) need this: to laugh, and just as important, THINK about race in America. The evidence can be found in comments heard across the ‘net (and probably across the aisle – at work, the grocery, wherever) around the “Roots” reboot that just played on The History Channel. Sentiments like ‘whyyyy do we even need to bring that back up?’ given voice by Black AND White people. Like race isn’t even a relevant issue anymore.

Check out a brief teaser trailer to the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII – ‘The Force Awakens’ directed by J.J. Abrams & due in theaters December of 2015. Most of us grew into adults with all of the Star Wars saga the George Lucas created, so it’s great to see they are restarting the series about 30 years into the future from where “Return Of The Jedi (Episode VI)” left off back in 1983. I like that new title too…. ‘The Force Awakens’. Yeah they have my attention….. The JAYFORCE awakens.
The British futuristic-pop duo AlunaGeorge (Aluna Francis and George Reid) is dropping its long-awaited debut, “Body Music” (due out June 2013). ‘A little teaser for the upcoming “Broken Mazes” EP. This record is a collaborative between myself and experimental, proto-new wave musician Gary Wilson (Stones Throw). It’s rare that you get the opportunity to work with the actual artist rather than just sampling the record. Gary opened his vaults and provided ample soundscapes. Some of these instrumentals dating back to 1973 may have been heard before. Others may not. The ending result is a pure creative expression and meshes Hip Hop, Psychedelic, Jazz, Funk…. R&B singer & new Def Jam signee Jhene Aiko let’s loose this new teaser to her upcoming video entitled “3:16” which according to her interview with Soulculture is her birthday & of course today’s date. I’m thinking they may have not had enough time to actually release the full video at 3:16am on March 16th so why not a little teaser to prep the fans. I’m a fan of her earlier work with her free ‘Sailing Soul(s)’ album/mixtape so hopefully her new move to Def Jam is a good one for her artistically & from a marketing & business perspective….
