Talib Kweli Speaks On His Times Meeting President Obama, Relationships With Other Artists And Much More (Video)
Tell the truth, we ‘never thought that Hip-Hop would take it this far’…
According to Talib Kweli (above), President Obama got his favorite artists together in a room to share ideas on and declare his desire for criminal justice reform to be part of his administration’s legacy… and ask for their inputs & help. Talk about a work-play moment! Imagine a concert featuring Talib, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Busta Rhymes, Pusha T and others? Why not? It’s the White House! But nah, country first. Still sounds like a cool meet-up.
(The story about his Grandma though… wow!)
Kweli also speaks on his next project (with Styles P), Yasiin Bey, the experience of working with Q-Tip and getting on the A Tribe Called Quest album, Jay Electronica and more. DOPE interview!
Talib Kweli – “Every Ghetto” feat. Aloe Blacc x Problem (Remix) [Prod. By Nottz]

DJ Yogi – “The Insomniac Show #2” (Mixtape)
Ah, dig the intro to this (meant to say that before)…Now, this great late night audio escape mixtape is different from “The Insomniac #2” (which we posted on here earlier). The homie DJ Yogi calls this one “The Insomniac SHOW #2”… a continuation of a series (hopefully) starting with “The Insomniac SHOW #1” (which we posted on here days ago). Pay attention. Keep up. And if you’re up late, cue this mixtape curate up; featuring work from Fetty Wap (yup, you’ll dig what Yogi dug), BoneBreaker Jones, Reek Da Villian, Talib Kweli, T.I., J. Keys & Robyn Hood, Phil Da Agony and more.

The Black Power Mixtape (1967-1975) [Trailer]
Another must-see for your Black History Month experience: “The Black Power Mixtape” (1967-1975). That’s right man. We wouldn’t lead you wrong. A mixtape, before we really recognized the term for the most part, of powerful stuff on the Civil Rights Era struggle. Peep the trailer above ( rent/buy link below), teasing footage of Black Pathers co-founder Bobby Seale, reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., activist Angela Davis, and others; with commentary from contemporaries (like Talib Kweli).
The Black Power Mixtape is an award winning compilation feature documentary that displays the story of the African-American community 1967-1975, the people, the society and the style that fueled a change. Told with sparkling, beautiful and deep footage, lost in the archives in Sweden for 30 years.

Talib Kweli And Bill Maher Discuss #BlackLivesMatter Protesters Interrupting Bernie Sanders’ Presidential Campaign Speech (Video)
Bill Maher: Why Bernie Sanders? …If you’re gonna interrupt somebody… This guy had a hundred percent approval rating from the NAACP.
Talib Kweli: NAACP liked Donald Sterling, too.
And folks, that’s how we dig into a real conversation! Watch the video clip above and gain some perspective.
A while back, #BlackLivesMatter shut down a speech appearance by 2016 Presidential hopeful and leading American Progressive Bernie Sanders. Many disagreed with the women who took the mic. But EVERYONE paid attention, talked about it, talked about #BlackLivesMatter from many angles. Whether you ultimately agree or disagree with the tactic, Kweli does make a couple of solid points. The first, the duty of activist-protesters is to disrupt and gain the platform (which #BlackLivesMatter did LITERALLY). The second, NO candidate should take the Black vote for granted in 2016.
Very interesting. Do you agree with Kweli? Discuss…

Beatnick x K-Salaam – “Checkpoints: Ghetto To Gaza” feat. Talib Kweli x M1 (Of Dead Prez) [Video]
A checkpoint, a checkpoint, everywhere a checkpoint…
The visuals for “Checkpoints” probably bring to light what most of us probably know (a reality of which we are informed or numbed enough to no longer fear): a ghetto is a ghetto. And the ghetto (be it in yesteryear Germany; or today’s Gaza or Ferguson) is where the real casualties of war take place. Where we are being killed in government sanctioned ways… oppressive poverty, lacking nutrition and education, youth roaming the streets… unprotected from danger… from those meant to protect and serve… either the government chooses to do something, or chooses NOT to do something, about what’s going on in the ghetto (here or there, now or then; no difference).
Who would speak truth on a track with themes like that? Guess. A Beatnick & K-Salaam track. Talib Kweli and M1 added on. C’mon! Single out on iTunes now. Video above. Full-length on the way.
Watch to the end.
