Jesse Boykins III makes his mini-film debut in this short film/video co-directed by Joshua Kissi & his Street Etiquette team. “Light To Dark” is taken from Jesse Boykins III’s Way Of The Wayfarer EP…

R&B/Soul: Dezaray Dawn – “B-Tween The Lines”

Futuristic soul artist & Atlanta resident Dezaray Dawn’s music often feels like you’re traveling the world without physically moving anywhere. This may have been a subconscious effort in crafting her own sonic DNA since she was born in Germany & has lived in a multitude of cities in the U.S. & around the world before eventually settling here in Atlanta at the age of 16. Her musical roots apparently run even deeper as she is also the cousin of soul singer Anthony David, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, & Tiny who is the current wife of rap artist T.I. & former singer with the all girl group Xscape. Dezaray’s time as a DJ in a few clubs spinning progressive soul & other influences may have also helped shape her sound as well. Dezaray let loose this joint “B-Tween The Lines” for the fans, but those of you trying to catch up to her talents should peep her Deep EP produced by Marc Mac. The joint “Sail Away” is a joint I’ve had on repeat several times too…

Anthony Hamilton – “Woo” (Video)

North Carolina’s most soulful singer Anthony Hamilton hits us with the new video his new single “Woo” off of his forthcoming album “Back To Love” dropping on December 13th. Although his signature is not readily recognizable in the song compared to others he’s crafted, Babyface produced this new single for Anthony Hamilton. Cool video & the sexy female detective in the clip is like “Wooooo”…(Warren G in “Regulate” voice at 3:10 mark)

R&B/Soul: Raheem DeVaughn – “Lotus Flower Bomb”

Raheem DeVaughn is one of the few R&B/Soul dudes in the game that can take a hot record & make it his own. Wale’s “Lotus Flower Bomb” joint featuring Miguel is quality record that sometimes I wished was just an R&B joint. Have no fear as Wale’s fellow D.C. native Raheem DeVaughn didn’t waste any time to crank back up his “Jackin’ For Beats” mixtape series with his take on Wale’s hit record…

Robin Thicke – Love After War (Video)

When I saw the promo photos for Robin Thicke’s new single & album “Love After War” I was sort of confused as to who the blond chick in the bed with him was considering he’s married to sexy & beautiful actress Paula Patton. It wasn’t until I pressed play on this video that I realized it was her looking good rocking the blond wig. Niiiiiiceee. Robin Thicke is a lucky dude with a new baby, beautiful wife Paula who’s starring in the upcoming “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” movie with Tom Cruise, & a new soulful album dropping December 6th. Check out the artwork & tracklisting under the hood…

R&B: JMSN – “Alone” (Kno Remix)

JMSN (pronounced Jameson) is an artist from L.A. by way of Detroit & this joint “Alone” gets a nice remix from the dope Kentucky producer Kno who easily shows he can flip R&B based records just as dope as the hip hop joints he has with the homie Marq Spekt on their “Machete Vision” album.  This joint right here is being added to my R&B playlists in itunes…

R&B/Soul: Elle Varner – Refill

The beautiful songstress Elle Varner delivers another “Refill” of quality music since that dope “Only Wanna Give It To You” track she dropped a few months back. I’m aware that Elle Varner is a very diverse newcomer in terms of music & has the ability to flip into a variety of genres, but I have to admit I didn’t quite dig this joint as much as her debut single at first. The hillbilly type violins or fiddlin’ in it were a little distracting, but after a second listen later I began to dig it a little more. I guess that would almost explain the premise behind her upcoming debut album appropriately titled “Perfectly Imperfect”

R&B: T-Pain – “Never Leave Her” featuring Tay Dizm (Video)

T-Pain ditches the autotune for this new joint called “Never Leave Her” featuring Tay Dizm off of his upcoming album rEVOLVEr that’s due to drop on December 6th. It’s kinda cool surprise to see one of the homies “AJ” makes a cameo in this clip as well.  T-Pain also has his own mother in the video for this classy joint too. Check out the artwork & tracklisting for T-Pain’s new album under the hood…

Kindred the Family Soul – ‘Take a Look Around’ feat. Bilal & BJ the Chicago Kid (Video)

New joint from Kindred the Family Soul from their project Love Has No Recession. Real Music for Real Life. Video shot in my beloved hometown of Philly…

R&B/Soul: Raheem DeVaughn – “Freedom Fighter” (Mixtape)

Soul singer Raheem DeVaughn taps into the consciousness of what’s going on around the country & the world with his new mixtape “Freedom Fighter”. This socially conscious project finds Raheem following in almost the same path as fellow D.C. native Marvin Gaye’s socially relevant athems like “What’s Going On?” & “Mercy Me (The Ecology).” Perhaps this particular project was inspired by Raheem DeVaughn’s recent arrest in D.C. during the Occupy D.C. movement alongside Dr. Cornel West who also appears on the mixtape.  Additional features include Chrisette Michele, Damian Marley, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jill Scott, Minister Louis Farrakhan, Anthony Hamilton, & many others. Check out the complete tracklisting under the hood…

Ishe + Hezekiah Speak ‘From the Soul’ On The New Content (Video)

Ishe & Hezekiah’s musical offering, The Ishe + Hezekiah Project, was a soulfully solid album that dropped last June.  A key song I still keep on repeat every now & then is their joint “Pressure” that I believe was their lead single before the album was released.  In this interview for The New Content they speak on how they met considering he’s also an emcee from Philly & she’s a vocalist repping for San Diego. Ishe & Hezekiah also build upon the recording process behind their debut album as a group.  If you’re running behind on this joint I suggest you go to their bandcamp page or itunes & download the album.  I’ve also posted a link to the Georgia Ann Muldrow remix of “Hold On” below as well…

Jill Scott feat. Paul Wall – So Gone (What My Mind Says) [Video]

When Jill Scott’s “Light Of The Sun” album dropped I recall my interest in hearing this track first because of the unexpected pairing of Paul Wall & Jill on a song together. It’s another one of those couplings that the average fan wouldn’t really expect that still comes off pretty good. I remember feeling the same way on the hip hop side of things when Paul Wall teamed up with another Philly artist in his “State To State” collaboration with Freeway. This joint is the second official video from Jill Scott off of the “Light Of The Sun” album that’s out now.

Coultrain – ‘Green’ (Tall Black Guy Remix)

Producer Tall Black Guy does an excellent job with this soulful remix of Coultrain’s already dope “Green” joint. I like the original version, but I LOVE this remix right here. Tall Black Guy gives it a little more bounce & sway without losing the most important & essential part of the song which is rooted in its soulfulness.

CJ Hilton – “Cold Summer”

CJ Hilton continues to impress me with each & every joint that he drops. Not sure if many of the songs I’ve heard from the Baltimore kid are leaks or official releases of any sort, but his type of Hip Hop soul never loses its concrete grittiness while maintaining a certain integrity to the R&B genre as evident in the lyrics & vocals. This particular joint is almost reminiscent of the vibe that D’angelo used to bring in straddling that line between R&B, Soul, & Hip Hop. This joint right here was produced by Salaam Remi who has crafted many quality joints from Nas & many others in the game. Summer is over, but you’d never know that based on the amount of heat that CJ Hilton has been consistently dropping…

The Internet – Love Song

Singer & producer Syd Tha Kid is a part of that Odd Future collective that has been gaining plenty of publicity in the media. Syd, alongside fellow Odd Future member Matt Martians make up the duo called “The Internet”. The jury had been out with me on Odd Future outside of the great work of Frank Ocean, but if the rest of the collective keeps turning over quality like this “Love Song” right here then they’ll have a new fan in me. This joint right here is straight R&B/Soul, but the only problem I have with the song is that it’s way too short….

Glenn Lewis – Good One (Video)

Toronto’s own Glenn Lewis drops a new video to a song that I’ve been bumping in my R&B playlists on itunes for quite a while now. I recall R&B singer Mario had a version of this song that I heard back in June of 2009, but it’s quite possible Mario wrote the song & sold it to Glenn Lewis. Or Vice Versa. As a matter of fact I had put Mario’s version on one of my R&B mixtapes I released two years ago. It’s also possible the production duo of Dre & Vidal was shopping the song. Doesn’t matter because either way this is a great song & it appears Glenn Lewis is moving forward with the video & single push. Glenn’s got a “good one” right here…Nice!

R&B/Soul: Omar – “The Man” (Video)

British soulman Omar performs his new song “The Man” while walking the streets of Copenhagen, Denmark. Director Kristian Mathiassen had Omar sing the vocals live & when he later went back to edit the video he added the instrumental to the track & it came out kinda cool…..
