R&B/Soul: Frank Ocean – “Voodoo”
Frank Ocean let this really dope gem of a song loose on his tumbler page recently & I’ve been rewinding this joint back several times over. I believe this “Voodoo” jawn is maybe a snippet or teaser because the song is relatively short. Definitely a nice joint right here…
Carl Thomas – “Don’t Kiss Me” feat. Snoop Dogg (Video)
I was just telling people on twitter last month that the new album “Conquer” from R&B soul singer Carl Thomas has some great gems on the project. “Long Distance Love Affair”, “Sweet Love”, “Round Two”, & “Don’t Kiss Me” are the key tracks that stood out to me. This joint “Don’t Kiss Me” featuring Snoop Dogg is definitely one of those gems & apparently the former Bad Boy artist’s team felt the same way about the song enough for them to shoot this video…
Stacy Barthe x Love Ultra Radio Interview with Jah Prince
We talk with Stacy Barthe about her transition from success as songwriter to now as a stand-alone artist. Maneuvering her way through the industry and personal pain, we salute the success of her EP, ‘Sincerely Yours’ and even now her addition to the 2012 BET Music Matter Tour with Elle Varner, Luke James and headliner Estelle. Another link we got from the Atlanta Urban Blog, JayForce.com and as you listen, her resume speaks for itself.
R.I.P. – Etta James [1938-2012]
“Etta James, the feisty & legendary R&B singer whose raw, passionate vocals made the love ballad “At Last” an enduring anthem, has died. James suffered from dementia, kidney problems and leukemia.”

R&B/Soul: Vikter Duplaix – “From Another World”
R&B soul singer, DJ, & Philly native Vikter Duplaix just dropped this joint a few days ago on the web & I’ve had it on repeat in the ipod several times throughout my day especially while working. I’ve been crazy busy the last few days so I didn’t have time to post this particular joint up until now. Some of you may have only associated Vikter Duplaix with being a DJ after his appearance on the Masters Of The Mix reality show & DJ competition, but it’s clear the brotha is reminding cats how talented he is with quality soulful gems like this right here….

Jill Scott – “Lovely Day” (Video)
There aren’t too many artists today that can remake a classic, put there own stamp on it, & it still comes out sounding just as good if not better than the original. One of my favorite soul singers from my hometown of Philly, Jill Scott, proves with this remake of Bill Withers’ 70’s classic why she’s one of the best of our generation. Speaking of generations, this video featuring the next generation of youngsters coming up in the world was released by Jill’s former label Hidden Beach as a part of the “Have A Lovely Day” campaign encouraging random acts of kindness and volunteerism.
Robert Glasper Experiment EPK (Video)
Robert Glasper is set to release his “Black Radio” album that I’m very much looking forward to this February 28th. The album will be an infusion of Blues, Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, & a variety of other ingredients that should musically define what “Black Radio” should be. A few of the songs that leaked early featuring Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, & R&B trio King let’s me know that this is shaping up to be a very good project. This EPK of Robert Glasper was shot by our homie Cognito who now resides in Los Angeles….

Frank Ocean: BBC Sound Of 2012 (Video)
In the BBC news series Sound Of 2012 their focus follows the success of New Orleans’s own Frank Ocean as they speak with him on everything from his critically successful album Nostalgia, Ultra, the video concepts for the singles on the album, his favorite places to perform like London, & crafting new music for artists like Kanye West, Jay-Z, & others.
R&B: D’Angelo – “Black Hole Sun” (Cover)
D’Angelo has been missing for a while, and even though this is not a piece of his newest material, the releasing of any material from the soul singer is a good sign for his fans (including myself) who wants a return to the Brown Sugar and Voodoo days. According to ?uestlove this is an cover of SoundGarden’s classic “Black Hole Sun” recorded 8 years ago, but a part of warming the public up to D’Angelo as the new album is “97%” complete. We hear this all the time from artists who go on these long layoffs (see Lauryn Hill) and never get around to actually putting any material out that the people so desperately want to hear. However since ?uestlove is involved, this situation may provide a better outcome. Besides that, this is a pretty dope cover of a classic tune. Enjoy!

Robert Glasper Experiment feat. Erykah Badu – “Afro Blue”
Robert Glasper connects with everyone’s favorite Dallas Cowgirl with soul, Erykah Badu, for this jazzy track called “Afro Blue.” It’s the first jawn off of the upcoming “Black Radio” project from the Robert Glasper Experiment. In true step with his concept of what ideally “Black Radio” should be, the album which will be released on Blue Note records on February 28th will cross various boundaries in black music from hip hop, jazz, blues, R&B, & rock. This joint right here is really chill….

Jesse Boykins III – Zoner [Demo] (Video)
“There is a misconception when one is lost in themselves because society can miss the truth behind it. This video is a pure introduction to Jesse Boykins III’s soul and takes a piece of his mind and displays it for the world be a part of. There is the reality of being alone, but also the desire to lust for something that inspires and assists the creation of beauty, a Zoner.”

Noel Gourdin with Jah Prince Interview on ‘Love Ultra Radio’
Noel Gourdin talks about his rise in the music industry and highlights the efforts of the team around him for most of his success. He is an accomplished vocalist yet and does love the freedom that being independant offers especially on the creative side. We joke about the women of Atlanta, life on the road including recent music events like ‘RNB Live’ and ‘Stevie Wonder’s House Full of Toys’ in California. We got the link from JayForce.com and was pleased to talk directly to Noel about music from his previous album, ‘After My Time’ and the current project ‘Fresh: The Definition’.

Robin Thicke on Chelsea Lately (Video)
Robin Thicke may have been just clowin’ around, but he seemed like he was drunk or high in this interview with Chelsea Lately. Robin Thicke’s new album “Love After War” is out now & it’s pretty good…
R&B/Alternative: Tawiah – Run (EP)
British soul singer Tawiah has been the background for many other names in the business for some time now, but she’s slowly creeping out & getting her just due recognition for her talent. The young singer spent a significant time touring the world working as a background vocalist in Mark Ronson’s band in addition to delivering background vocals for Corinne Bailey Rae & sometimes filling in for the late great Amy Winehouse. Having gained significant cosigns & recognition for her voice from artists such as Cee-Lo Green, Mary J. Blige, & Lily Allen, it wasn’t long before she signed a new deal with Warner Bros records. Tawiah is undoubtedly stepping out from the background with her new 5 song EP entitled “Run” that serves up as an appetizer before her first full length project is to drop sometime in 2012. This new EP is her second self-financed project since the one she dropped in February of last year called “In Jodi’s Bedroom”. Check out the title track from the EP below plus one of my favorite joints from her which is a remix to “Breakaway” off of her soundcloud page. Check out her new video for “Little Drummer Boy” that also appears on the new EP under the hood….

R&B/Jazz: Freddie Joachim – Patiently EP
I’ve been letting this new Freddie Joachim EP “Patiently” run a few times today while working. It’s a dope 5 song EP of soulful & jazzy instrumentals that serve as a nice appetizer to his next project “Fiberglass Kisses” due early 2012 on Mellow Orange Music. Freddie Joachim released this project late November & is donating proceeds from the sale of the EP to charity for the holidays. Check out some snippets from the project below or just go on ahead & download the full songs from his page. No singers or rap artists needed for this joint right here. Trust me you won’t be disappointed. I’ll be giving this EP significant spins until his next project drops. Until then we’ll be “Patiently” waiting for it…

R&B/Soul: Ishe’ – “Genesis” (Prod. By Hassaan Mackey)
Nice Herbie Hancock inspired & almost off beat/on beat joint produced by Rochester New York producer & emcee Hassaan Mackey. When he’s not out on tour with Maryland producer Kev Brown or crafting joints with his Detroit partner Apollo Brown as 1/2 of Daily Bread, he’s creating joints like these off of a brand new MPC he says he recently purchased. To make this jawn complete he reached out to San Diego’s own Ishe’ via twitter to bless the track vocally. It’s dope how social media can afford artists to collaborate with each other significantly easier…
