R&B/Soul: Dwele – “What Profit”
While listening to some good soul music on Sunday I was just thinking that it was about that time for some new music from the Detroit homie Dwele. It almost seemed like I thought it into existence when my homie DJ Rasta Root, who doubles as Dwele’s DJ on tour, hit me up to let me peep this new joint from his currently untitled album that’s on the way. The Grammy nominated producer, singer, & songwriter never disappoints with the quality soul records & we’ve been waiting on a new full-length since his latest “W.Ants W.Orld W.Omen (W.W.W.)” project. Check out this new single called “What Profit” that’s now available on itunes…

R&B/Soul: Freddie Joachim — “Keep Lovin’ feat. Carlitta Durand
Hip Hop, Soul, & Jazz producer Freddie Joachim does it again with another quality soulful R&B banger. I’m lovin’ this new track featuring North Carolina songstress Carlitta Durand called “Keep Lovin'” that will appear on Freddie Joachim’s new project “Fiberglass Kisses” dropping later this month. There’s also a cool remix to this joint produced by Eric Lau that just hit on itunes as well. Based off of this dope single & the soulful Eric Lau remix I heard I know I’ll be in line for when the album drops.

R&B/Soul: Corey ‘Latif’ Williams – “Philadelphia Healing” EP
While searching around the web as I usually do I ran across this soulfully dope “Philadelphia Healing” EP from Philadelphia singer & songwriter Corey “Latif” Williams. Assuming he was a newcomer to the game initially, I was pleasantly surprised to find some great gems on this new project. Upon further research I discovered the Philly artist was mentored by the late great Teddy Pendergrass & was once signed to Motown records by Kedar Massenberg under the stage name “Latif”. Instantly I had one of those “Ohhhhhhh now I remember” moments as I began to put it all together in my head. Check out his website at Hurltheworld.com. Peep the tracklisting plus a few key tracks I’m digging from his 5 track EP where you can also download the complete free project below. It’s great to see another artist continuing to make me proud to be from Philadelphia. If you like good soul I’m positive you won’t be disappointed…

Goapele – Tears On My Pillow (Video)
New video for soul singer & songwriter Goapele for “Tears On My Pillow” off of her “Break Of Dawn” album that’s out right now. The Oakland soul sista’s “Closer” is still a favorite of mine, but she’s determined for people not to sleep on the new album & her acting skills because the people over at Concreteloop says Goapele is set to also appear in the “Sparkle” film remake starring Whitney Houston, Derek Luke, & more.

In The Mood: “Velvet Reasons” (Mixtape) By DJ Jamad
One of my favorite DJs who consistently comes out with the quality R&B/Soul/Alternative mixes is the homie DJ Jamad. If you’re already a fan of his work then you know he doesn’t put out random mixes every week so fans of his mixes appreciate them more for their song selection & placement, themes, artwork, & everything else that better enhances the experience of listening to anything in his Afromentals series of projects. The latest project “Velvet Reasons” is right on time because I’ve still bumping his “Choc-Lo-Dytes” & “Ginger Snaps” mixes from January & March of last year. While most people fast food their mixes, DJ Jamad’s care in creating these mixes continues to make them timeless regardless of when they were released. Check out the complete tracklisting of this new project by clicking on it under the hood…

R&B/Soul: Joy Denalane feat. Bilal – “Should Have Never” (Jake One Remix)
I’ve been up on Germany’s Joy Denalane for a few years now, but new songs from her don’t pop up that often from the multilingual soul singer since the 2006 release of her “Born & Raised” project. It was her standout track “Change” featuring Lupe Fiasco that really caught my attention coincidentally after I had returned back to Atlanta from a trip visiting with friends in Germany. Her solo appearances & collaborations are still rare releases but she still pops up every now & then on joints with fellow R&B artists like Dwele & Bilal as well as popping up on a few rap artists & producer based projects like on Virginia’s NOTTZ song “How Long Will It Last” from his “You Need This Music” album two years ago.  So with her relative absence in releasing any new material for a few years it was surprise to see OKP premier this new remix from Seattle based producer Jake One. Joy Denalane is set to drop a brand new project on April 3rd entitled “Maureen” which apparently has a much deeper significance other than it just being her middle name. It’s makes even more sense considering the early reports that the album has a dark bluesy & soulful edge to it that is quite difficult to fully categorize. Looking forward to some more goodness with this….We’ve waited long enough

Theophilus London x Solange Perform ‘Flying Overseas’ Live (Video)
Theophilus London’s song “Flying Overseas” featuring Solange is one of my personal favorite songs in recent years. It’s a song that gets repeated play in my itunes at times. While down at the SXSW festival Solange joined Theophilus on stage for a live performance of this beautiful song.
Tall Black Guy – “What’s Good” (James Brown – I Feel Good Flip)
This dude Tall Black Guy never ceases to amaze me with these soulful bangers he keeps dropping. Check out how he flipped this “I Feel Good” joint by the Godfather James Brown. The Detroit producer did this jawn special for his fans after reaching over 5,000 followers on twitter soundcloud. Y’all need to follow him on twitter if you want to keep up with all the gems he keeps dropping on the web.  If you’re like me you have to occasionally rummage through his twitter timeline to see what else is new. I’m always looking forward to hearing anything he drops & this joint right here I’m sure the ‘Godfather Of Soul’ himself is looking down proud…..
Rashid Hadee – “Let Me Be” (Video)

R&B/Soul: Mar – “Our Attempt”
Swedish R&B/Soul singer Mar is back with another quality soul gem with “Our Attempt” which is his first single off of his 5 song EP called “Seeing Her Naked” that he’s releasing in conjunction with Okayplayer. Mar is one of those types of artists that you may not be a familiar with them, but you grow fond of their work with every release because they keep the quality control level high everytime. I’m still bouncing to the joint he did with D.C. producer Oddisee called “Inglewood” as well as the “April 14th” joint with london based swedish singer Szjerdene. Looking forward to the hearing the entire EP later this month especially after looking at this sexy cool looking cover above….

R&B/Soul: John West – “Nobody”
L.A. based singer John West has been coming with some quality songs with each release but the leaks haven’t been too abundant or frequent. I was enjoying the “Lovely” joint with Pusha T that he put out in March of last year around this time & here he comes again with another quality joint called “Nobody”. Great work. I’m even more looking forward to his upcoming album to be released on Mercury/Island Def Jam. I usually can tell if I dig a song if I played it more that 2 or 3 times in a row. This was one of those types of songs….
