88 Keys – Beats No More (Instrumentals)
Producer 88 Keys just decided to let go some beats for the masses that were laying around. Seems like he wrapped it up & called it ‘Beats No More’. All you aspiring emcees & singers might want to go through some of these beats. Personally I’m a guy that sometimes just like to listen to beats with no talking on them whatsoever. You can listen to more of them before downloading after the jump. If you’re not an artist of any kind & share a similar interest in just listening to beats like myself then you may want to go ahead & download these joints…..
R&B/Soul: Algebra – ‘I Ain’t No Joke’ (Rakim Cover)
It’s not often an R&B/Soul artist can do a cover of a classic hip hop record although hip hop artists have sampled or interpolated R&B for years. Atlanta’s Algebra Blessett does a very good job with Rakim’s classic. She didn’t leave out the soul in her remake…..maybe she needs to redo Eric B & Rakim’s ‘I Know You Got Soul’ as well because she damn sure does. Yesterday Algebra taped an episode of the Monique Show with soul artist Anthony David with whom she recorded a quality song called ‘4evermore’ which was produced by the homie DJ Kemit.

New Music: Bilal – ‘The Dollar’ (Black Milk Remix)
Hip Hop artist & Detroit producer Black Milk gives Philly soul singer Bilal the remix treatment. Great job with this joint….nice!
R&B/Soul: Mint Condition – ‘Caught My Eye’
Mint Condition is one of those bands that are just classic in every sense of the word. The music is on point & the lyrics are realistic & mature. Unlike the majority of R&B on the radio this is honest music. These guys have been doing this for about 20 years now & still sounds as good as their namesake….’Mint Condition’. This is how real R&B/Soul should feel. Here’s there latest joint ‘Caught My Eye’ & after the jump I posted a few of their classics that I still bump to this day.
Focus… – The Avant Garde Project Special Edition Mixtape
My homie ‘Focus…’ dropped his album ‘The Avant Garde Project’ in May of last year. Recently he dropped this ‘Special Edition’ Mixtape, but I’m not exactly sure what changes if any were made to it. Either way its still a dope ass project. My personal favorite song from this album is ‘The Vow’ on that R&B soul vibe. An extremely talented individual, Focus is arguably one of the illest producers that I know in the game. This project fully illustrates that ‘Focus…’ is more than just a hip hop producer having crafted soundscapes in a wide variety of musical genres. The Avant Garde Project touches upon his ability to weave in & out of those genres rather seamlessly. Some producers just make beats, but ‘Focus’ can do it all from pop, rock, country, soul, & even latin. As a matter of fact Focus has won a Grammy in the Latin category. To preview, listen, or download the mixtape make sure you click on the artwork or the link below! Keep it bangin!

Gladys Horton, Founding Member Of Motown’s Girl Group The Marvelettes, Passes At Age 66
I can’t honestly say I’m familiar with Gladys Horton as an individual because she was largely before my time, but I’m quite familiar with the Marvelette’s as a group & their hit songs such as ‘Please Mr. Postman’, ‘Don’t Mess With Bill’, & ‘Beechwood 4-5789’. Most of the time I keep my ipod on shuffle, but I still continue to listen to plenty of Motown on a regular basis when I’m in the mood. Motown Records was such an iconic record label there’s no way anyone could not be familiar with the massive catalog. Producers like Kanye West are familiar because he’s sampled the Marvelettes work in the past. Not only did I want to take this time out in this post to show respect & honor, but the purpose of this post is also to reflect back to a time when artists had more pride in their craft. Far too often artists of our generation fail to really put on a well choreographed show. I believe if artists trained more like boxers they would go back & watch film of the great ones that came before them. In the video above check out how the ladies had their routine down with ill precision. The mini breaks & skits also connect well & allows the ladies to keep it moving thus preventing any lulls in their performance. It’s enjoyable to look back at history, but it’s also a textbook study for performing artists. Not only is this a time to look at the talent that paved the way, but we salute these legends like Gladys Horton for providing shining examples of greatness. Now I feel like going back & watching the movie Coolie High for the 249,256,389th time…..
Theophilus London – Why Even Try feat. Sara Quin
Theophilus London has been dropping quite a few joints I’ve been feeling & this new joint “Why Even Try” is no exception. It’s a single from his upcoming EP called “Lovers Holiday” which I’m assuming is dropping somewhere around Valentines Day February 8th on itunes.
Classic Clips: Marvin Gaye – Heard It Through The Grapevine Live (Video)
Every now & then I like to go back and watch the old clips of many of the great entertainers from back in the day. Seems like everyday there’s new video popping up on the web. A little ‘Sunday Soul’ for yall from the legendary Marvin Gaye.
ILLA J – Day 2 Nite! / Affair
JDilla’s younger brother Illa J is beginning to carve his own lane & sound recently. It’s understandable that he has love for his fallen brother & has been holding the torch for him, but it appears he realizes it’s time for him to fully become who illa J is gonna be as an artist. Check out this new joint called ‘Day 2 Nite!’ from his upcoming project called ‘4 Past Midnite’. I dig these joints!
Raphael Saadiq – Good Man
One of my favorite soul artists Raphael Saadiq drops the first single from his upcoming album ‘Stone Rolling’. It sounds retro but still kinda new at the same time. He’s been playing with that early 50s & 60s sound but appears to have found a way to make it work in 2011 without straight biting decades past. After the jump check out the video he released earlier this month for ‘Radio’.

Raheem DeVaughn – Fall For Your Type Remix feat. Dee Boy
Started this blog officially January 1st & one thing I definitely wanted to do is show every side of my interests from music, sports, movies, & even social/political commentary when necessary. I’m definitely big on soulful music as well as hip hop so I have to make sure I go hard on the R&B/Soul music here at JAYFORCE.COM too. On my Tiger Woods R&B SexTape mixtape I dropped last year ‘Fall For Your Type’ by Drake was a definite favorite of mine. Supposedly he sold the song to Jamie Foxx & I didn’t dig Jamie Foxx’s version all all when it was released. In comes Raheem DeVaughn to do the song justice like he always does by redoing other artists songs. Raheem DeVaughn has that unique ability to take someone else’s song & make it his own. I think he should have kept the rapper off of this joint, but it’s still cool. Sometimes I just don’t like to always hear a rapper on a good R&B song. I may have to edit a version without the rapper on it for my own purposes. Overall this “Fall For You Type” record is not even Jamie Foxx’s song anymore in my opinion. Between Drake & Raheem DeVaughn’s versions, the Foxx version gets no play in my ride.

The Foreign Exchange – ‘Maybe She’ll Dream Of Me’ Live In London (Video)
Phonte, Nicolay & the rest of the gang took a trip over the pond recently for some shows. Here’s some live video from my favorite song from their Authenticity album. In addition to this live video I’ve included the video they released for the song after the jump too…

Producer Illastrate Draws Musical Pictures With Eddie Coleman’s Friday Night Theme Music
Although he originally hails from the midwest, Illastrate has been one of Atlanta’s best kept secrets on production duties for a few years now. He’s been the go to guy for many artists representing quality Soul & true school Hip Hop music. He recently dropped a new album on his birthday at the end of 2010 called ‘Eddie Coleman’s Friday Night Theme Music’ with the track ‘Inner G’ as the lead single. The Inner G track is so smooth I’ve even used it as a music bed on my radio show to talk over. I’ll give you a taste of the the Inner G track in this post but make sure you check out & support illastrate’s bandcamp page & website Working Class Music Group. Quality work
