R&B/Soul: John West – ‘Lovely’ feat. Pusha T
One of my friends swears that I’ve seen John West perform while I was in L.A. on a visit but I can’t honestly remember. I gave her the ‘Oh ok’ acknowledgement, but I didn’t have much of a clue. I’ve seen a gazillion new artists perform in my lifetime. Apparently John West has been around for a while having been in rock bands & is now a solo artist signed to Island/Def Jam. I didn’t expect much when I came across this song in my email except for the fact that this song ‘Lovely’ was featuring Pusha T. I’m glad I checked this out because this joint is hot! John West seems like a mix between John Legend & Robin Thicke & I wouldn’t be surprised if the label was trying to push him into that ‘blue eyed soul’ lane. The positive side is John West doesn’t sound like anyone else in R&B/Soul today vocally speaking. This particular song reminds me of Kanye West’s ‘Heard Em Say’ from a musical perspective so I wonder if Yeezy had something to do with the collaboration in some way…..
Moods Music x DJ Jamad Presents The ‘Ginger Snaps’ Mixtape
DJ Jamad’s soul mixes are some of my favorites to listen too….He’s back again collaborating with Atlanta’s Moods Music for another in his Afromentals mixtape series called ‘Ginger Snaps’ that I’m just gonna vibe out to right about now. Check out the full tracklisting under the hood….Nothing but quality music…..

R&B/Soul: Bobby Blunt & Iman Williams – ‘Before’
Now this is some quality soulful ish right here…..I guess this is what it sounds like when you mix Atlanta, Virginia, Alabama, & Pittsburgh influences into one nice soulful meal. Bobby Blunt links up with Iman Williams for this nice joint produced by BusCrates who all rep from the various cities mentioned. This is supposedly an appetizer to what is yet to come from a full length collaborative project from Bobby Blunt & Iman Williams. Niiiiice… [source]

Zo! – ‘Greater Than The Sun’ feat. Phonte (Video)
“SunStorm” is the latest album from Detroit-area born, DC-area based producer/multi-instrumentalist Zo! & here is one of the key songs they decided to drop a video for. Dope song but I couldn’t help but laugh at the female lead’s knees in beginning of the video. She must’ve been working hard on dem dere knees……

Musiq Soulchild has a word for every letter in the ‘Alphabet’ for a love interest in this new joint from his upcoming project ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’. Quality R&B joint right here….

The song itself appears on Bilal’s ‘Love For Sale’ Album
Constellations: The A To Z Of Dennis Coffey by DJ House Shoes (Mixtape)
This is a very dope mix from Detroit’s own House Shoes paying tribute to the talented Dennis Coffey who’s been instrumental in many classic songs from Motown. Many crate diggers already know about his work that’s been sampled in hip hop a thousand times over. Check out this mix & get more familiar because it’s really good. The complete tracklisting is under the hood….

New Music: Jill Scott – Love Rain (Gotta Remix)
It seems like many people are beginning to get that itch for Jill Scott to release some new music so producer “GOTTA” decided to remix Jill Scott’s ‘Love Rain’ from her debut album. This sounds really dope on some cool out ish. The timing couldn’t be better as ‘Jilly from Philly’ just got some good news for fans as she recently signed a new distribution deal with Warner Brothers for her upcoming album ‘Light Of The Sun’. Prior to the new deal with Warner Brothers records, Jill had a pretty ugly dispute with her former label Hidden Beach before it was resolved legally. The ‘Light Of The Sun’ album is due to drop this summer although Jill gave fans a few sneak peaks while out on tour with Maxwell last year. Definitely looking forward to Jill’s upcoming album too…..That’s wasup!
New R&B Suite: Marsha Ambrosius, Bobby V, Bilal, Teedra Moses, Tyrese, & More
Usually we don’t have the time to post each & every R&B or Hip Hop record that drops, but occasionally we may do them all in one post. So from here on out for the R&B joints I’ve decided to name it the R&B Suite on the blog after my R&B mixtape series. I have another R&B mixtape on the way so stay tuned, but for now just enjoy a few these gems that dropped earlier this month. Just click on the images or the links to either listen or download under the hood……
Anthony David – ‘4Evermore’ feat. Algebra & Phonte (Video)
Somebody left ya man out of the celebration. Somebody needs to holla at me. Am I too hood to make a cameo in this video?! I love good soul music too man. Mannnnn I see plenty of my homies in the video but no Jayforce?! I could have gotten my two step on in the joint you haters! Haha! Seriously thou….big shout out to many of my people making cameos in the video for this dope song. My homegirl Jodine repping for Jodinescorner.com who plays the role of Phonte’s love interest in the video, my homegirl Sabrina Rose of ‘Slick & Rose’, the homie Jamal Ahmad from 91.9 WCLK in Atlanta, & of course the big homie DJ Kemit who plays the wedding DJ & who just so happens to be the producer of the song. After the jump check out my homegirl Jodine doing some behind the scenes interviews about the making of the video. Congrats to all involved for a great song & great video…….It’s good music people!
Novel – ‘Hood Chick’ feat. Rapper Big Pooh
Perfect for Valentines Day….I like hood chicks too but not too hood though…..Nah trust me man I don’t need Cleo from ‘Set If Off’ son…..I’m good….Dope song though. Novel is an soulfully underrated talent in the game though. I enjoyed some of the stuff he did with Joell Ortiz too. Make sure yall look for his upcoming album ‘Calligraphy’ dropping sometime this year.
Teedra Moses – ‘R U 4 Real’ (Video) + ‘I Adore You’
It’s hard to imagine this beautiful & vocally talented woman is the baby momma of ill West Coast emcee Ras Kass. Not only can Razzy be proud of the fact that she’s the mother of his children, but Teedra Moses outshines 99% of singers in the music industry with her talent despite not always getting the proper promotion. Imagine how talented their kids could become? Wow. I still bump Teedra’s 2004 debut album ‘Complex Simplicity’ on the ipod from time to time which to many real music fans is a classic in itself. Rick Ross has now signed her to his new Maybach Music Group label so maybe he can help her get the proper light she deserves. Check out her new website TeedraMoses.net & make sure you peep this song called ‘I Adore You’ that she released to give fans a teaser of the upcoming album….
Classic Clips: Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’ (Video)
Although ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’ isn’t one of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles most well known singles, it’s a personal favorite of mine. If you happen to be an artist watching these videos you need to study Smokey Robinson & The Miracles’ movements in these clips. Not only are they performing live vocally, but the dance steps are so on point with precision its a wonder how they don’t bump into each other. Pay attention artists. The rest of us will just enjoy it…..Timeless classic. More video after the jump.

Phonte Lets Loose More Unreleased Tracks For The Fans
Phonte let go a few more songs for fans that were sitting around collecting digital dust. Here’s a few that I enjoyed plus the comedic ‘We Are The World’ styled “Rza Is The World’ song where he’s impersonating Rza from the Wu-Tang Clan raising money for Haiti.
