Robert Glasper Trio – “Sign O The Times” (Redux)

Very nice piece by Robert Glasper Trio, and proof positive that warm sentiment and artistic appreciation do not have to be bound by the trappings of ‘the business.’ Apparently, they were blocked from putting their keyed up version of “Sign O The Times” out when Prince was alive. But still, when respect (and admiration) is earned, respect is due. Pay up. Kudos to Glasper’s group – for the music and the framework and lesson in life #RIPPrince
This is a[n] arrangement I recorded in 2015 as part of my “Covered” album. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to put in on the album. Prince didn’t really like people recording his music lol. But I feel now is a good time to let everyone hear it! This is my favorite Prince joint “Sign O The Times.” The message is still relevant. Prince you are missed. Thank you for unapologetically being you.

Short song with a nice easy listening vibe. Excellent use of the old school ‘Taxi’ TV show theme (“Angela” by Bob James). It’ll take several listens to pull the full meaning of what CeeLo is trying to tell us in this one; but sometimes music that makes us stop and take stock is more than good enough. Plus, there is more on the way…
