Jim Morrison, legendary frontman of the classic rock band ‘The Doors’, prognosticates the direction of music’s evolution… from the year 1969 (partial transcript of the above video follows):
“I think the two basic types of music in this country are Black music — blues — and the kind of folk music that was brought over from Europe… Those are the two main streams of root American music…”
“But 10 years ago, what they called rock ’n roll was kind of a blending of those two forms. I guess in four or five years, the new generation’s music… It will have a synthesis of those two elements and some third thing that will be in — maybe it will be … it might rely heavily on electronics, tapes… I can kind of envision maybe one person with a lot of machines, tapes, and electronics set up, singing or speaking and using machines.” – Jim Morrison

The Roots – “Life, Love, & Loot”

Inspired by the Captain Morgan commercial campaign of “Life, Love, & Loot”, Philly’s finest The Roots flipped the musical theme of the liquor brand’s primary song into a dope ass joint with a great classic rock feel. Black Thought aka Tariq Trotter kills this joint on the vocals so well it sounds like he may have outdid Lenny Kravitz himself at his own signature vocal style. The song won’t appear on the The Roots upcoming album “undun” due December 6th, but damn this joint is dope even if for a commercial campaign. This past Sunday I was cruising through Atlanta listening to Lenny Kravitz’ 5 album which still gets alot of play from me on a personal level. Especially my favorite track ‘Little Girl’s Eyes’ dedicated to his daughter Zoe Kravitz who coincidentally has all grown up into a beautiful woman & did a fairly good job in the new X-Men: First Class movie. God must work in mysterious ways last Sunday because Lenny Kravitz’s camp dropped this new single ‘Stand’ the following Monday from his upcoming project Black And White America due on August 22nd.
