The Atlanta Jazz Festival Celebrates 40 years: Memorial Day Weekend
It is cause for a Celebration because the Atlanta Jazz Festival is going into it’s 40th year of operation. This is no small feat considering it is one of the top free Jazz Festivals in the country. It all happens Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28) at historic Piedmont Park in Atlanta, GA. Three days filled with great music from Jazz legends and new artists on the rise. We are talking about The Robert Glasper Experiment, Macy Gray, Regina Carter, and Freddy Cole just to name a few. So if you are in Atlanta or the surrounding areas make your way to Piedmont park. Get there early with your blanket, picnic basket and enjoy some great performances courtesy of the City of Atlanta.

Robert Glasper Experiment – “Find You†(Live) [Video]
Another “ArtScience” live performance gem from the in-studio set Robert Glasper Experiment did with DJ Aaron Byrd. This is “Find You” on KCRW.
(Now… you gotta read that last text block like some classic NPR radio intro ish. And if you don’t listen NPR, you should try it out. Some dope music featured and opportunities to expand await.)
Robert Glasper Experiment – “Day To Day” (Live) [Video]
Grammy award-winning jazz fusion group Robert Glasper Experiment doing “Day To Day” (off “ArtScience”) live for KCRW. Studio session dopeness. Accompanied by DJ Aaron Byrd. Turntablism adding that Hip-Hop finish. The Culture on behavior here is beautiful. NPR does it again!
Robert Glasper Experiment – “I Stand Alone” feat. Common x Patrick Stump (Video)
Who’s ready for some Jazzy-Soul-Hop? You, hopefully, because you’re about to be blessed. Robert Glasper’s fam (Robert Glasper Experiment) invited some other fam in to jam on “I Stand Alone” (fam like Common & Patrick Stump). This’ll make your body nod. And just as you really get into it, and they get into it… You realize that there are a whole lot of people in here ‘standing alone’ (peep all the cameos/spots at the end).
Robert Glasper feat. Jill Scott – “Calls” (Video)
Robert Glasper’s new single featuring Jill Scott entitled ‘Calls’ is one of my favorite new R&B/Soul joints over the past month or so. It’s not uncommon for me to replay a great song over & over again after hearing it for the very first time. Robert Glasper & Jill Scott’s collaborative piece would be no exception to that process of mine. The single will appear on Robert Glasper’s upcoming project “Black Radio 2” featuring many artists such as Dwele, Faith Evans, Common, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, & more due October 29th on Blue Note Records. You can pre-order the album below, but for now check out the almost dream-like yet creative new video for ‘Calls’ above….

Robert Glasper Experiment EPK (Video)
Robert Glasper is set to release his “Black Radio” album that I’m very much looking forward to this February 28th. The album will be an infusion of Blues, Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, & a variety of other ingredients that should musically define what “Black Radio” should be. A few of the songs that leaked early featuring Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, & R&B trio King let’s me know that this is shaping up to be a very good project. This EPK of Robert Glasper was shot by our homie Cognito who now resides in Los Angeles….

Robert Glasper Experiment feat. Erykah Badu – “Afro Blue”
Robert Glasper connects with everyone’s favorite Dallas Cowgirl with soul, Erykah Badu, for this jazzy track called “Afro Blue.” It’s the first jawn off of the upcoming “Black Radio” project from the Robert Glasper Experiment. In true step with his concept of what ideally “Black Radio” should be, the album which will be released on Blue Note records on February 28th will cross various boundaries in black music from hip hop, jazz, blues, R&B, & rock. This joint right here is really chill….
