R&B/Soul: Warren Xclnce – “Examine Me” feat. Etta Bond (Nigel One Remix)

North Carolina (by way of Michigan) producer Nigel One puts his own smooth-and-funky-bounce spin on “Examine Me” – a track originally done by London’s own Warren Xclnce (featuring vocals from Etta Bond). Check out the original version after the jump. Two very different runs at the joint give us a double-shot of good music for our listening pleasure. Nice!

Slaughterhouse feat. Fat Joe – “Goodbye” [Chris Lighty Tribute]

Fat Joe hops on Slaughterhouse’s poignant new single to deliver his heartfelt verse dedicated to the man he says saved his life. Rest In Peace Chris Lighty….

R&B/Soul: Res – “On The Radio” (Donna Summer Cover)

Philly native Res has done plenty of great work that often gets overlooked by mainstream audiences. Her 2001 debut album “How I Do” STILL gets significant run from me in my itunes. In addition to serving as 1/2 of the group Idle Warship with Talib Kweli, the soul/funk/rock songstress appears to keep busy by dropping new material whenever the timing is right. With the recent passing of the legendary Donna Summer back in May of this year, I assume Res didn’t quite fall victim to the music industry tactic of artists releasing waves of hastily recorded tributes that far too often seem to be self serving to capitalize on a moment. This Danophonic produced house music remake of Donna Summer’s 1979 classic “On The Radio” sounds nothing like the original,  but that’s also a part of charm of Res’s remake & what makes this remix of sorts sound so special.  Res put her own creative spin on the classic & I’m positive Donna Summer would appreciate how it feels like Res took her time with it & genuinely executed the classic in her own creative flavor. This remix needs some love “On The Radio”…

Miguel x Wiz Khalifa – Adorn Remix

Wiz Khalifa hops on R&B singer Miguel’s very dope & increasingly popular single ‘Adorn’. So far I dig the way the Pittsburgh kid put his remix spin on it as many other rappers are just starting to record & email blast out remakes. Don’t expect us to post all of them or anymore remixes unless they are official or sound as good as and/or better than this one here.

Dwele feat. Phife Dawg – “What Profit Remix” (Video)

This is dope to see the homies Phife Dawg & Dwele get busy for the remix to “What Profit” off of the Detroit soul singer’s upcoming album “Greater Than One” due August 28th. Can’t wait to run this joint on the radio show. You can download the remix single & pre-order Dwele’s upcoming album from the links below…

R&B/Soul: Genius Collective – “Stronger Than Me” (Yam Who? Remix)

I caught wind of Genius Collective, a seven-piece crew, and their flip of an Amy Winehouse piece, “Stronger Than Me” (Yam Who? Remix) from BamaLoveSoul. The folks over there declare that this joint “will inspire ChiTown stepper’s to get their footwork right!” No word on a release date, but keep checking the Genius Collective’s Bandcamp page for good leaks.

R&B: Lloyd – “Turn On The Lights” (Remix) [Video]

Lloyd did his thing on this remix of Future’s hit record “Turn On The Lights.”  I was just mentioning on twitter that I could see reggae artist Mavado doing a very dope remix to Atlanta artist Future’s popular record.  Apparently Lloyd didn’t waste anytime in showing how an R&B artist could flip it visually & sonically.  You can download Future’s debut album, “Pluto,” from iTunes right now. We have the single for this video (featuring Lloyd), “Turn On The Lights (Remix)” for you right here.

Kanye West – “Homecoming” [Urban Noize Remix]

“The inspiration for Mr. West came from all the great music that Kanye’s been releasing as of late. & As well from the past. From ‘Watch The Throne’, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, ‘808s & Heartbreak’, ‘Graduation’, to the more recent like “Way Too Cold (Theraflu)”, “New God Flow”, & “Mercy”.   The overall energy hes been bringing has been incredible & so witnessing that energy inspired us to go in on his records with a similar mind frame. Which for us meant, tailor making instrumentals to fit his passionate lyrics, all while still trying to push the boundaries a bit. With the soundscapes consisting of orchestra, soul, indie rock, pop, funk & hip hop. So without furtherado, Mr. West” – Urban Noize

R&B/Alternative: Szjerdene — “4th Stranger” (FS Green Remix)

Here’s an up-tempo club remix of Szjerdene’s “4th Stranger” for our listening pleasure. We posted something on Szjerdene a while back (a collabo with Mar which you can find here). This is more of the good stuff…a dance remix produced by FS Green for the love!

Lord Finesse – “Check The Method” (Remix)

Lord Finesse is STILL doing it! Who remembers “Return of the Funky Man” (video seen here)? RESPECT! Well… Lord Finesse returns AGAIN! Slice Of Spice in conjunction with Wax Poetics Japan have announced (and released, end of June 2012) an incredible 24 page collaboration in Wax Poetics Japan Issue #22 of the magazine (available via Amazon); featuring Lord Finesse among others. In addition, Slice Of Spice has provided a flexi-disc for every copy of Issue #22 of the brand new and exclusive remix of “Check The Method.”

We have been keeping up with Lord Finesse here with several posts. So to us, he never left. But as Biz Markie would say, “Damn, it feels good to see people up on it!”

Alternative: Little Dragon – “Sunshine”

On June 28, indie alternative electro-pop band Little Dragon released a new single, “Sunshine,” in conjunction with Absolut Vodka, for Absolut Remix (the company’s alcoholic punch drink). Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, veteran Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi Nagano is the lead vocalist for Little Dragon, which also features keyboardist Hakan Wirenstrand, bassist Fredrik Kallgren Wallin, and drummer Erik Bodin. You can peep the behind-the-scenes video here to get a taste of what Absolut and Little Dragon have going. The full audio for “Sunshine” is available here.

R&B/Soul: Lili K – One Date (Remix)

Here is producer Peter Cottontale’s remix to “One Date” by Chicago vocalist Lili K. The offering is a jazzy track; soulful with a nice bounce to the beat.

R&B/Soul: Meshell Ndegeocello – “Petite Mort” (Miguel Migs Remix)

Ultra talented D.C. singer & songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello let loose this very dope Miguel Migs Remix for her “Petite Mort” joint off of her album “Weather” for free via her soundcloud page. Seems like good timing to release this joint right before the holiday weekend for DJs & real fans to groove too. I’ve had this joint on repeat a few times this morning myself…..

De La Soul – “Stakes Is High” (Blue Buttonz Remix)

Spotted this pretty dope remix of De La Soul’s “Stakes Is High” produced by Blue Buttonz over at OKP. This jazzy remix utilizing plucks from a Kalimba is just flat out dope.  Check out more from producer Blue Buttonz via his bandcamp page where there several other creative remixes with his instruments of choice.

Chuuwee – “The Crown Don’t Make You King” Remix feat. Don Trip

More quality hip hop from the Sac-town emcee Chuuwee, but this time he brings along Don Trip for the remix ride. Straight Quality. I dig how the Audible Doctor produced this on an almost lo-fi early “RZA type” of soundscape with the Lupe Fiasco “Goldwatch” sample in the hook. Be on the lookout for his upcoming “Crown Me King” full-length project that’s on the way….

R&B/Soul: Joy Denalane feat. Bilal – “Should Have Never” (Jake One Remix)

I’ve been up on Germany’s Joy Denalane for a few years now, but new songs from her don’t pop up that often from the multilingual soul singer since the 2006 release of her “Born & Raised” project. It was her standout track “Change” featuring Lupe Fiasco that really caught my attention coincidentally after I had returned back to Atlanta from a trip visiting with friends in Germany.  Her solo appearances & collaborations are still rare releases but she still pops up every now & then on joints with fellow R&B artists like Dwele & Bilal as well as popping up on a few rap artists & producer based projects like on Virginia’s NOTTZ song “How Long Will It Last” from his “You Need This Music” album two years ago.   So with her relative absence in releasing any new material for a few years it was surprise to see OKP premier this new remix from Seattle based producer Jake One.  Joy Denalane is set to drop a brand new project on April 3rd entitled “Maureen” which apparently has a much deeper significance other than it just being her middle name. It’s makes even more sense considering the early reports that the album has a dark bluesy & soulful edge to it that is quite difficult to fully categorize.  Looking forward to some more goodness with this….We’ve waited long enough

Tall Black Guy – “What’s Good” (James Brown – I Feel Good Flip)

This dude Tall Black Guy never ceases to amaze me with these soulful bangers he keeps dropping. Check out how he flipped this “I Feel Good” joint by the Godfather James Brown.  The Detroit producer did this jawn special for his fans after reaching over 5,000 followers on twitter soundcloud. Y’all need to follow him on twitter if you want to keep up with all the gems he keeps dropping on the web.  If you’re like me you have to occasionally rummage through his twitter timeline to see what else is new. I’m always looking forward to hearing anything he drops & this joint right here I’m sure the ‘Godfather Of Soul’ himself is looking down proud…..
