Reks – “Gone Baby Gone” (Prod. By Large Professor)
And with “Gone Baby Gone†(produced by Large Professor), REKS has released “The Greatest X” (pronounced “The Greatest Unknown”). The single is yet another banger, but check out what REKS said about the long-awaited album…
Over the past two and a half years I have been recording songs with the understanding this would be album number 10 for me and thus something monumental. “The Greatest X” is a valuable addition to my catalogue; and an important album for Hip-Hop period. I liked the idea (double-album) because it would represent something special for album number 10. “The Greatest X” is more of an experience than it is an album. It is one of my proudest accomplishments.

REKS – “Kites” (Prod. By Alchemist)
With “Kites†REKS bears his soul in the form of two passionate letters to individuals – one to Mumia Abu-Jamal (the activist and author who was imprisoned for the 1981 killing of police officer Daniel Faulkner) and another to Dylan Roof (the terrorist who executed nine people during a prayer service in South Carolina on June 17, 2015). Black Lives, Blue Lives, All Lives Matter. But the relationship between police officers and citizens will remain rocky until we dig deep enough to get to the root of the issue and improve the foundation. First, the U.S. has a history of brutalizing and incarcerating Black men without just cause. Second, police officers have a profoundly difficult job, but they also need to be held accountable for their actions. Third, individuals like Dylan Roof will continue to exist so long as revisionist’s history repeatedly poisons youthful minds with ideas that claim Black equality while still promoting White supremacy. It follows that reversing historic the mode of mistreatment of Black people in the U.S., especially in cases of bad police interactions, AND acting to root out Roof-like individuals and arresting their deadly behaviors is key.

REKS – “Bitch Slap” feat. RA The Rugged Man (Prod. By The Arcitype) [Video]

REKS – “Jump Shots” (Prod. By Buckwild) [Video]
The album REKS has been promising, “The Greatest X” (read: “The Greatest Unknown”), is looking & sounding really promising. Watch REKS flex and give a B.I.G. rhyme concept a stretch. Pure dopeness!
“Jump Shots” is a song that articulates in depth the idea made famous by Biggie Smalls, “either your slingin’ crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot.” Over an infectious head-nodder from Buckwild, assisted by a flawless cuts from Statik Selektah, REKS describes the limited options available to ghetto youth and the parallels between b-ball and Hip-Hop. A die-hard Boston Celtics fan, REKS states, “I actually grew up idolizing the Bad Boys’ Isiah Thomas on the ball court. His grittiness and fearlessness was admirable.”
Welp, consider this Boston’s basketball-meets-boom-bap contribution to the game this season – wicked “Jump Shots” on deck.
REKS – The Recipe (Prod. By Nottz)
“The Recipe” is REKS on a musical mission. That is, it’s REKS over dope production by Nottz. It’s also razor-sharp cut-up of the dope by DJ Kerosene. Yeah, it’s all that and…
My goal is to return to the simplicity of dope bars over dope beats formula, in a time where lyricism is lost on too many listeners. I want my name in the forefront as the alternative to today’s typical music choice.
– REKS
…Yeah, it’s what he said!
REKS – “Hands Up†(Wink Wink) [Prod. By Streetrunner] (Video)
“Hands Up” (Wink Wink) was made as a wake up call to those tuned out to our realities and engaged by societal distractions. In essence, I believe when a class of citizens are oppressed for an extended period of time, there is a point where they have little choice but to awaken. In today’s America, not much has changed for the masses who were labeled 3/5 of a person in The Constitution. At the song’s root is the idea of being policed differently from our neighbors solely on the basis of our melanin. We are shot in the streets like dogs and described as radical when defending the idea of our freedom.

“Working with Reks on this project has been a great experience. The creative process was organic and effortless. We were in the studio together for every song on the album and it was as simple as me showing Reks a beat and him picking up the pen and writing. Nothing was ever forced. I am really proud of this body of work and I’m very excited for the world to hear it.”
