Joanna Teters Speaks On Her Band ‘Mad Satta’ & Their Performance During The Atlanta Jazz Festival (Video)
The 38th annual Atlanta Jazz Festival went down Memorial Day Weekend 2015 from historical Piedmont Park. 3 days of great music with talented artists from all over the US and the World performing for thousands of Jazz fans here in Atlanta, GA. The opening night had only two acts the headliner Thundercat and the opening act Mad Satta. If you are not familiar with Mad Satta they are a group out of NYC that have horns, keyboard, and bass players and a front lady named Joanna Teters on vocals. They made their Atlanta debut and immediately had the crowd’s attention with their soulful original music. They also did a classic Curtis Mayfield cover of “The Makings of You” that had the crowd asking to know more about them. Well if you didn’t make their performance no worries the video below has live footage from their show along with an interview by ArtByOdell with Joanna Teters.

R&B/Soul: Jesse Boykins III – “Our Tonight is Mine” (Video)
A lot of R&B these days is non quality. Â I like my R&B singers to not sound like rappers and Jesse Boykins III is still making good R&B. Â The thing is you can have sensual lyrics without telling a lady “Pull your panties to the side & Drop it to the floor” , what you mostly hear on the radio these days. Well the track “Our Tonight is Mine” off Jesse’s Love Apparatus album talks to the ladies in a subtle but sexy way. Â The video features Jesse Boykins and Swedish model Amanda Looma while all of this takes place in the car in a parking garage. Â I know Jesse is happy with the director because he gets to kiss and feel on a hot swedish model while singing to her. Â Wait a minute just checked the credits video Written & Directed by Jesse Boykins III (Well played Jesse, well played) Parking Lot Loving!

R&B Rewind: Horace Brown – ‘Things We Do For Love’
When Wu-Tang’s slick lyricist Raekwon dropped his ill ‘Stop Trippin’ freestyle over R&B singer Horace Brown’s album track ‘Trippin’ that we posted yesterday, it made me feel like going back & listening to a few other hot singles the Charlotte, North Carolina singer dropped back in the 90s. The 90’s was a great period for black music in general & Horace Brown had some dope ass gems with ‘Things We Do For Love’, “Taste Your Love”, & of course the very popular ‘One For The Money’. If you lived through that period in the 90s like I did I want you watch these joints to reminisce with me. If you’re just a little too young to know any better all you have to do is just pay attention & know that I’m putting you onto something dope. Check out the rest below….
R&B/Soul: Res – “On The Radio” (Donna Summer Cover)
Philly native Res has done plenty of great work that often gets overlooked by mainstream audiences. Her 2001 debut album “How I Do” STILL gets significant run from me in my itunes. In addition to serving as 1/2 of the group Idle Warship with Talib Kweli, the soul/funk/rock songstress appears to keep busy by dropping new material whenever the timing is right. With the recent passing of the legendary Donna Summer back in May of this year, I assume Res didn’t quite fall victim to the music industry tactic of artists releasing waves of hastily recorded tributes that far too often seem to be self serving to capitalize on a moment. This Danophonic produced house music remake of Donna Summer’s 1979 classic “On The Radio” sounds nothing like the original, but that’s also a part of charm of Res’s remake & what makes this remix of sorts sound so special. Res put her own creative spin on the classic & I’m positive Donna Summer would appreciate how it feels like Res took her time with it & genuinely executed the classic in her own creative flavor. This remix needs some love “On The Radio”…

NAS feat. Amy Winehouse – “Cherry Wine”
Another quality gem from Nas’s upcoming “Life Is Good” album due July 17th. This particular single produced by Salaam Remi featuring Nas’s fallen soul sister who shares the same birthday the late great Amy Winehouse. Apparently the collaboration came about through one of Nas’s past recording sessions with Amy Winehouse a few years ago. With all these quality songs the Queensbridge emcee has been releasing all I can say is……Life is Good…. indeed…..

+ Another Hot Segment from “Love Ultra Radio”
Stacy Barthe x Love Ultra Radio Interview with Jah Prince
We talk with Stacy Barthe about her transition from success as songwriter to now as a stand-alone artist. Maneuvering her way through the industry and personal pain, we salute the success of her EP, ‘Sincerely Yours’ and even now her addition to the 2012 BET Music Matter Tour with Elle Varner, Luke James and headliner Estelle. Another link we got from the Atlanta Urban Blog, JayForce.com and as you listen, her resume speaks for itself.
Elle Varner – Conversational Lush (Mixtape)
Following the success of her critically popular record “Only Want To Give It To You” with J.Cole, R&B songstress Elle Varner delivers her first mixtape “Conversational Lush” which features some key tracks that I found to be pretty dope on here like “WTF”, “Do You Want To”, “Feel Like A Woman”, & the Bill Withers inspired joint called “Runaway”. The beauty in an artist like Elle Varner is her vocal talent & her songwriting which feels very personal to who she is. Her music conspicuously stands out from the crowded market of R&B chicks trying to make a mark in recent years. Elle Varner’s official album “Perfectly Imperfect” is due to be released later this year, but for now you can listen and/or download the “Conversation Lush” mixtape below…
Noel Gourdin with Jah Prince Interview on ‘Love Ultra Radio’
Noel Gourdin talks about his rise in the music industry and highlights the efforts of the team around him for most of his success. He is an accomplished vocalist yet and does love the freedom that being independant offers especially on the creative side. We joke about the women of Atlanta, life on the road including recent music events like ‘RNB Live’ and ‘Stevie Wonder’s House Full of Toys’ in California. We got the link from JayForce.com and was pleased to talk directly to Noel about music from his previous album, ‘After My Time’ and the current project ‘Fresh: The Definition’.

R&B: Rochelle Jordan – Here I Go
Now this is a dope song from Toronto’s finest Rochelle Jordan who’s been serving up some impressive work of the last year . Her first free album R O J O was very good & this new jawn called “Here I Go” will be the first single to her next project simply titled R O J O II produced by her go-to producer & collaborator KLASH.
Delilah – “Love You So” (Video)
This is such a dope song by itself from London based artist Delilah, but the video is pretty interesting too from an artistic standpoint. I’ve only known of the 19 year old singer & songwriter primarily from one or two soulful dubstep songs that she appeared on vocally. Apparently I’m late in discovering her talent as “Love You So” is the second single & EP since her debut “Go” EP.

Trackademicks – “Halfway” feat. Phonte & Carlitta Durand
The Bay area producer who coined the term “Champagne Soul”, Trackademicks, links up with two North Carolina artists that we respect when it comes to new soul music in Phonte & Carlitta Durand. In addition to his recent work with the aforementioned Foreign Exchange frontman, Trackademicks has produced an assortment of great work from artists such as J. Davey, Kid Cudi, Teedra Moses, & too many others to name. Feels like it’s a matter of time before an artistic cat like him explodes with the recognition to match his musical talent. Trackademicks let loose this new joint “Halfway” as a teaser to his upcoming album The Champagne Room due later this year.
