Wow! Now this is EPIC!!! Thank you for sharing the experience Brother Odell #TeamJayforce #DoperThanYourTeam #JustSaying #NowShowing
Sometimes it takes a good festival to have one of your favorite Hip-Hop groups rocking out on stage. Well, I want to say thank you to Hieroglyphics Crew who had Little Brother on the bill for Hiero Day 2019. Phonte & Rapper Pooh rocked tracks from their classic “The Listening” album to current hits from the new “May The Lord Watch” album. Phonte also shares with the crowd how back in 2003 Hieroglyphics took LB out on their first tour; something that they will always be thankful for! Watch, Comment, Enjoy, and Share!

The Story Behind Little Brother’s Debut Album, “The Listening” (Documentary)
When you hear them together, it sounds right…
This is how dope documentaries get done! Okay, so at 11 minutes it’s more like a mini-doc… but just right. Frame the story as a ‘making of’ but drop all kinds of gems and jewels of history (group and Hip-Hop) along the way.
Started in a college dorm room by a group of North Carolina Central students in 2001, the Justus League collective and offshoot trio Little Brother defined the sound of Durham Hip-Hop for years to come, constructing a style altogether distinct from everything to the north and south. This level of innovation turned heads with some of Hip-Hop’s biggest names, and the members of Little Brother (9th Wonder, Big Pooh and Phonte) have gone on to work with superstars like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Questlove, who appears in the documentary.

Rapper Big Pooh x M-Dot – “The Beginning” (Prod. By Pause Beats)
For every great story, the starting point isn’t always the most optimistic. And when two respected, accomplished artists collaborate it doesn’t always mean there will be chemistry. Good news here, though… maaaad chemistry!!!
Boston’s M-Dot and Rapper Big Pooh (of Little Brother fame) drop their latest tune, “The Beginning,” over a soulful instrumental by Sweden’s Pause Beats. The track also features the sultry vocals of Sabina Ddumba on the chorus.

Rapper Big Pooh – “Seinfeld” (Go Up) feat. Phonte (Prod. By Swiff D)
BANGING!! While this is nowhere near a reformation of Little Brother, this previously unreleased “Seinfeld” (Go Up) track has the homies doing it like we remember in 2010 (because it is). Pooh and Tay doing the business. Where you at 9th Wonder?
(And there is a story behind this music. Hit the jump for that.)
Rapper Big Pooh – “The Recipe – Intro” (Prod. By Khrysis x Young RJ)
Suffice it to say, most music-making (esp. rap music) has a story behind it. But maaaan, this story takes a deep breath before & after to tell.
Back in 2008-2009 after the idea and talks of a Slum Village/Little Brother album faded amongst us…Young RJ and I started working on a project called The Recipe. While working on the project I became obsessed with finding the right joint to start the album off. Khrysis (he was engineering the recording for me in NC) plays this beat that I deemed, “the one.” Even though it wasn’t his production, I convinced Young RJ that this was what we needed to start our album off. He stripped the original version down and built it back up around the sample Khrysis used. I hit DJ Babu for the cuts and we were ready to rock. After The Recipe stalled while we were trying to get the business side straight, Slum Village started working on Villa Manifesto. I was asked about giving this track to Slum for their album but I refused, still planning on finishing and using it for The Recipe. Scrap Dirty made the OG call and gave it to Slum and it became Bare Witness, their intro track for Villa Manifesto. Here is my unmixed, unmastered, and unreleased version of The Recipe – Intro.

This is pretty much as ‘raw uncut’ as raw uncut Hip-Hop can get. Enjoy and appreciate this finally-released gold nugget! Also, just think for a minute about the Slum Village/Little Brother album that might’ve been. WHEW!

Rapper Big Pooh – “Potpourri (Dead Flowers)” feat. Finian St. Omer II [Video]
Kinda raw! One of the dopest Hip-Hop beats with a horror theme mixed in since horrorcore rap was a thing. And of course Rapper Big Pooh and Finian St. Omer II bodied this piece from their body of work. Grab the popcorn. We already got the “Potpourri (Dead Flowers)” on deck. This single is off that “Everything 4 Sale” project out now.

Villain Notsha – “Untrue” feat. Rapper Big Pooh (Prod. By Nottz)
Know how emcees sought Sean Price (RIP) for the hot features to put their songs over the top? Not so quiet as kept, Rapper Big Pooh is that dude, too. And with Nottz putting in production work, Villain Notsha is stacking the deck with dopeness for this “Untrue” jawn. Truth.

Rapper Big Pooh x Nottz – “300Z” (Video)
If left on its own, the music in this beat could have been some smoothed out easy listening instrumental. Instead there is a nervous energy incorporated that lays out a track for Nottz to take us on a bumpy audio and visual ride; with an abrupt last stop. Rapper Big Pooh is the lyrical co-pilot (and “good” conscience, and “bad” conscience). Get this single “300Z” and more on Pooh and Nottz collabo LP “Home Sweet Home” (out now).
Rapper Big Pooh x Nottz – “Home Sweet Home” (Album)
