RA The Rugged Man And Vlad Debate Drake Vs. Rakim Vs. Nas Vs. Jay Z (Video)
This title should be updated to include “Vs. The Diabolical Biz Markie” (dope live performer)! Great point made about real emcees, real MCs, deserving credit for Moving Crowds. Rakim (on the list, in the title) said that in his rhyme. And at its foundations, real MC-ing, THAT’S HIP-HOP! I like the energy of this debate as much as the content. Vlad and RA get it in!
(Those other guys in the title… they a’ight on the mic, too… except Vlad Haa!)

Rakim Challenges The New School: ‘So Whatchu Saying?’ (Interview)
When the G.O.D.M.C. aka The 18th Letter aka Rakim Allah speaks, especially on Hip-Hop, it’s worth taking heed. Well, Keenan Higgins over at Green Label Sounds did more than take heed. He took notes! Wrote up an article chock full of insight.
I just need younger artists to understand the power that they have. What you’re saying, people are listening to. Don’t take it for granted that you just writing rhymes. Young kids are listening. Y’all are influencing a lot of people, so watch what you say.

Rakim – “Madiba” (Tribute To Nelson Mandela)
Yoooo! Respect to the G.O.D.M.C. for putting this down with respect for “Madiba” – in honor of the late human rights icon Nelson Mandela. Plenty of coverage and tributes for Mandela. But none like this Rakim joint telling the man’s “Long Road to Freedom” story (gotta check that Idris Elba movie out, too, by the way). Take a listen.

Unreleased heat from the lord Rakim. Dominic Owen did the production for the track, recorded in 1995, “Get Visual.” Kept under wraps ever since Owens shares it with the world now.
‘Another classic unreleased Rakim song from my archive.“Get Visual” is the third song out of four I recorded with Rakim. This would later turn up on the “18th Letter” Album as “When I’m Flowin.”‘

Hip-Hop’s Golden Era icon Rakim (born William Griffin) delivers his lyrics with a smooth, effortless flow – melodic, yet undeniably intelligent. Marco Polo feat. Rakim – “What’s Wrong”
“What’s Wrong,†was initially produced and recorded for Rakim’s “Seventh Seal†(2009) LP, but due to clearance issues was nixed from the retail release of the project. It has since sat dormant until Rakim gave the track back to Marco and he decided to use it for his forthcoming free-LP “Newport Authority 2†as Marco states “I’ve recorded so much quality material over the last few years and I really want to share it all. It couldn’t all possibly fit on “Port Authority 2â€; hence “Newport Authority 2†came to be.â€
“Newport Authority 2†will feature appearances from Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Artifacts, Das Efx, Lil Fame (M.O.P.), Torae & Ruste Juxx all rocking over Marco’s production.
Yet, the project everyone should really be excited for is Marco’s “Port Authority 2†LP which will be released this spring on Soulspazm Records. “Port Authority 2†features appearances from Organized Konfusion (yes, a new Oragnized Konfusion track!!), Gangrene, Talib Kweli, DJ Premier, Masta Ace, Posdnuos (De La Soul), Kardinal Offishal, Styles P, Nature, Rah Digga, Slaine, Celph Titled, Ill Bill, Large Professor, Inspectah Deck, O.C. & many many more.

Marley Marl Recreates The ‘Classic Recipe’ For “Eric B. Is President” by Eric B. & Rakim (Video)
Damn! Has it been 25 years already?? Guess so. But what was dope then will be dope again… especially the way Marley Marl put it down on “Eric B. Is President!” Check out the super producer putting together another ‘Classic Recipe’ in the video above!
‘In the second installment of Marley Marl “Classic Recipes,” he shows you how he produced “Eric B. Is President” in 1986, the debut single for legendary hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim. Marl talks about meeting Rakim for the first time and discusses the collaborative process with Eric B. that would yield one of the most influential Hip-Hop tracks ever. “Eric B. Is President” combines a bassline from Fonda Rae’s bonafide 1982 club hit “Over Like a Fat Rat” and a beat from James Brown’s 1974 hit “Funky President.”‘
– DubSpot
‘Limitations made us who we are.’ (Marl spoke truth with that…speaking on making a CLASSIC with only 4 tracks. No high tech; just superior SKILLS!)

A$AP Rocky Meets Rakim (Video)
Rising Harlem Punk Rap artist A$AP Rocky, who’s mother named him after the God emcee Rakim, was surprised by a recent visit from the “7th letter” while doing an interview up at HOT 97 in NYC with Angie Martinez. The story of how his mother first met Rakim is hilarious as hell too. This was a great video to watch as you can tell the kid was genuinely excited & humbled…
