Golden Era icons Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth reminisce about their seminal 1992 hit – “T.R.O.Y.” The song was one on the most touching tributes to a fallen friend and one of their first fans – “They Reminisce Over You†offered in honor of the late Troy Dixon (Trouble T-Roy of Heavy D & The Boyz). The two talk about coming up out of Mount Vernon (New York, USA), the progression of music from their area and the past era.

One of the top 3 hip hop producers of all-time, the legendary Pete Rock appeared on ESPN’s First Take this morning to debate the key sports stories of the day with Stephen A. Smith & Skip Bayless. When I heard Pete Rock was going to be on the show I knew I was gonna tune in to watch it, but I did have some reservations because over the years Pete Rock has never been a very vocal person even in hip hop related interviews. After watching the show this morning it did appear to be a little rough for Pete Rock as his relatively shy & laid back demeanor was indeed overshadowed by Stephen A. New single from Lupe Fiasco for “Around My Way” (Freedom Ain’t Free) that will appear on his upcoming album “Food & Liquor 2” & it not only samples a classic record but the arrangement is very similar to Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s classic “T.R.O.Y.” (The Reminisce Over You). Personally I think Lupe should have maybe reached out to Pete Rock as a kind gesture before making this a single on his new album. Just out of respect if not for anything else. (Shrugs) Not long after this song debuted Pete Rock wasn’t too happy with it either speaking out from his twitter page…..Hopefully the brothas will “Straighten It Out”
