Gifted Gab Performs “No Days Off” in Convenience Store for Swisher Sweets Artist Project (Video)
Three years ago I traveled to Seattle to cover the annual Bumbershoot Music festival. That trip turned out to be as much of a networking and new artist discovery as it was for festival coverage. I was introduced to a multitude of artists and Gifted Gab is one that I told people about after seeing her perform live. She has continued to work hard, releasing new music along with performing at shows up and down the west coast. She even rocked out here in Atlanta for A3C 2016. Well she has caught the eye of Swisher Sweets who have made her part of their convenience store sessions. Yes the title explains exactly what it is Gifted Gab performing live inside a convenience store unannounced, unrehearsed, with real customers. Gab definitely has the personality to pull this off. So check out this cool footage where the Seattle emcee controls the crowd while they are grabbing a six pack and some swishers!

NPR: “Tiny Desk Concerts†Series Welcomes “The Internet” (Video)
Straight outta Los Angeles, and Odd Future, The Internet – featuring founding members Syd The Kid (vocals/production) and Matt Martians (keys/ production), as well as Pat Paige (bass), Jameel Bruner (keys) and Chris Smith (drums) – falls through NPR to do a “Tiny Desk Concert.†The kind of Alternative that The Internet brings to your ears… well… it’s hard to describe. Good thing you have the above video to watch (and the “Ego Death” album link, via earlier post on here, to listen to).
Here’s an attempt at description: Think R&B’d out Hip-Hop swagger meeting homegrown Neo-Soul with a 21st century twist.
Yep. That’s the best description for it. And nope, that doesn’t quite cover it. But yep, you will enjoy it… perhaps enough to cop the album here.
NPR: “Tiny Desk Concerts” Series Welcomes Oddisee (Video)
One of my favorite albums of 2015 so far is The Good Fight by Oddisee. Â So when NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series invited the DC emcee to come perform some tracks off his new album I was excited. Â Oddisee does not disappoint with his performance backed by a live two piece band he rocks the NPR offices. Â Performing the tracks That’s Love, Contradiction’s Maze, and Belong to the World he got the crowd involved and sounded as clear as he does on the album. Â It’s refreshing to see a Hip Hop artist rock a show no frills no loud screaming and 20 people on stage and still have the crowd enthralled by the performance. Â Good job fighting the Good Fight Oddisee!

J.Keys Performs ‘Keymo Therapy’ LIVE @ Pianos in New York City (Video)
J.Keys, an emcee originally from Detroit who now hails in NYC, recently headlined the MLK SOULstice (MLK Tribute Show). Â He performed the track “Blow The Dust Off “ from his Keymo Therapy album live at Pianos in New York City. Â J.Keys is backed up by a band giving the crowd a soulful energetic performance. Â If you were at Jayforce.com’s Beatz & Lyrics Show 15-year anniversary showcase then you caught J.Keys rocking the stage in Atlanta. Â Whether it’s NYC, ATL, Sydney Australia or South Africa (all places J.Keys has performed at) you can expect a quality performance!

Big Daddy Kane: The Homie Scrap Laid A Dude Out On Stage With The ‘One Hitter Quitter’ (Video)
Picture the concert of your dreams. You’re getting live at, like, a Big Daddy Kane concert. Scoob and Scrap and The K-A-N-E go in for the dance break. And that’s IT! You gotta hop on stage and join in…
AND KA-POW! You get BATMAN punched – and KNOCKED THE *EFF* OUT!
Kane said that’s not hypothetical. That happened. Uh ohhhh… (watch).
Flashback June 1985: 17-Year-Old LL Cool J Performing In Maine (Video)
Spotted this video of LL Cool J & his DJ Cut Creator performing at Colby College in Waterville, Maine at the age of 17. LL Cool J was about to release his Def Jam debut & soon-to-be classic “Radio” album later that year & this performance could have been a possible promo tour he was on back then. Back in the early 80s hip hop was still expanding commercially so I’m not surprised at the crowd’s modest reaction in Maine at the young upstart who may have been unknown to most of the audience. Some may say hip hop in 1985 was largely popular in cities like NY, Philly, L.A., & Chicago as it was still expanding throughout the country to smaller towns like Waterville Maine. I love vintage video clips like these. Shout out to PHMB & Kodiak Star who uploaded this rare vintage video with this message….
