Dear White People (Series Trailer)
Okay, let’s start with the obvious about this “Dear White People” Netflix trailer… baby girl cute af! Oh, you thought ‘the obvious’ was the overt shot at White America that is the probable running theme of this series? NO. And if that offends you, I dare you to watch to the end and think about how MANY times White folks (esp. White college students) smear themselves and wear blackface. That’s in here, too. Think that might offend some of us?
Well if you don’t, or don’t get it, f**k yo’ feelings, esp. if you cancelled your Netflix subscription over this.
This is gonna be some aw-hell-naw kind of programming!
And yeah, this series is based off the movie of the same name. We posted on that years ago… here.)
Marvel’s Iron Fist (Trailer)
Netflix is doing the MOST! Next up from its Marvel Universe promgramming: Iron Fist. Nice trailer to whet our appetites for the newest of Marvel’s team of Defenders.
Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist. Marvel’s Iron Fist premieres March 17, 2017 exclusively on Netflix.
Wonder why they didn’t go all Captain America with the title, like ‘Iron Fist: The Last Defender’… yeah? nah? Ah well, it will be up for some serious binge-watching in mid-March. Netflix & NO chill!
Bill Nye Saves The World (Trailer)
Now that’s what we’re needing more than ever! Damn right, Bill Nye “Saves The World” and drops the science… AND the mic! With a White House and U.S. Congress that are sure to place ‘good business’ before good sense and what is good for the planet (note: good for the planet can be, and usually is, good for business), we need the return of Saturday morning Science to bring fun and knowledge to bear against all the anti-science out there.
Bill Nye – science guy, educator, mechanical engineer, and curator of curiosity – returns with a new show. Each episode of Bill Nye Saves the World tackles a specific topic or concept through lively panel discussions, wide-ranging correspondent reports from a crackerjack team, and Bill’s very special blend of lab procedure and sly personality.
Bill Nye Saves The World arrives April 21, only on Netflix.
Plus, look at all the guest stars that will be coming through. Score for Netflix. We’re ready for April already. Peep the trailer.
13TH (Trailer)
Historical hooray for the 13th Amendment, right? Because it freed the slaves…right? But wait. Hold the Constitution a minute. What if the passage of the 13th Amendment actually gave way to 150 years of oppression of Black people? That’s what Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13TH” posits. And it’s not ‘what if’ rather ‘what it is.’ Watch the Netflix trailer above. Wow…
The title of Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary “13TH” refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.†The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity. With a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men, DuVernay creates a work of grand historical synthesis.
