Immortal Technique Speaks On Ghostwriting, Nas, & Drug Culture (Video)

Shout out to HardKnock TV and especially to Immortal Technique for speaking realness! This is just part one, and it was chock full of dopeness! During the talk, Immortal Technique declared that Hip-Hop is like no other art. We demand realness…perhaps a bit too much. Case in point: An actor’s swag is given to him by someone else. A director directs Denzel Washington in delivering lines he did not even write. Yet no one says Denzel is not real. No one asks Al Pacino if he is “holding keys” after seeing him portray a drug dealer in a movie. Folks understand he is playing a role. Unfortunately Hip-Hop culture, being the ‘realest’ art, is less thoughtful. Good or bad, we believe rappers pen every verse they spit and live every word of ‘that life’ they rhyme about. What’s worse: We don’t even want that dirty-grind-drug-selling life described in those kinds of rhymes. We want the plush life that is supposed to come after that…and *news flash* no one gets that life!

Nas – “Bye Baby” (Official Video)

After being teased with the trailer several days back, Nasir Jones lets us peep the official video to “Bye Baby” off of his “Life Is Good” album.  Arguably the best hip hop album to have dropped this year & this is clearly one of the standout tracks from ‘Life Is Good.’  Nice detail for Nas & director Aristotle to have former Guy frontman Aaron Hall to have him up in the video as well.  I’m positive Aaron Hall’s music career will find a new resurgence by his appearance in the video to this hit song.  Life Is Good indeed…..Bye Baby! Cheers!

Nas Speaks On The “Bye Baby” Video And Ignoring Critics (Video)

Nas sat down with Fuse TV at Rock The Bells and talked about how an Aaron Hall served as partial inspiration for “Bye Baby” (we know the other part of inspiration – see prior post here – for the song), why he picked that song to do a video for, and how he doesn’t heed critics with respect to music-making.

Nas – “Bye Baby” (Video Trailer)

Nas is set to release the video to “Bye Baby” which is one of my favorite songs from arguably the best hip hop album of 2012… “Life Is Good”. I’m excited to see the visuals for this song so much so that I sort of broke my rule about posting trailers to music videos. I don’t do it very often because I find posting trailers to music videos to be a waste of time. Keep checking back here at JAYFORCE.COM for when the video officially drops….

D.L. Hugley Speaks On Why He Would Chose Nas To Be His Vice President (Video)

Comedian & political commentator D.L. Hugley stopped by VH1’s studios promoting his new book “I Want You To Shut The F*ck Up”. After speaking about his book & discussing a variety of topics D.L. was asked that if he were President who would he choose to be his Vice-President. D.L. responded by giving his ‘Rap Up’ with this quote….“Because they’d never assassinate me if he was gonna be the next president.” True Indeed D.L. because Nas is the truth.

Statik Selektah x Termanology’s European Adventure With Nas x Mac Miller (Video)

The video (shot and edited by Daniel and Michael of K1X) compiles clips of 1982 (Statik Selektah x Termanology) touring across Europe with Nas, Mac Miller, and others. Backstage snippets, b-roll footage on the road, interactions with fans, and a vignette of the 1982 duo rocking their hit “Lights Down” off their mixtape “2012” (out now) in front of an eager crowd adorn this piece.

R&B: Arlissa – “Hard To Love Somebody” feat. Nas (Video)

South London’s Arlissa sings with an old soul, though she is not even out of her teens. She’s about to be major though. With a Nas co-sign? Come on. I need not say any more. The video for the remake of Arlissa’s single “Hard To Love Somebody” (due out on iTunes September 30, 2012) provides visuals for the good music she and Nas made. Shout out to This Is RnB for the scoop on this hotness.

DJ Khaled – “Hip Hop” feat. Scarface x Nas x DJ Premier (Produced By Justice League)

This banger right here will arguably be the most talked about track on DJ Khaled’s upcoming album ‘Kiss The Ring’. I’ve dug a few songs here & there that DJ Khaled has orchestrated in the past, but this joint right here with Nas, Scarface, DJ Premier, & The Justice League is just straight bananas! Scarface’s vocal presence is perfect, Nas’s lyrical lamentations about hip hop are priceless, The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. Leagues sonic production feels like a grand event, & DJ Premier’s perfectly placed scratching on the track is the cherry on top of this ill grand production right here. You don’t always have to be a producer that touches hundreds of buttons to put together quality work, but DJ Khaled proves with this joint that sometimes having a grand vision is all it takes. Check out the behind the scenes video of how it all came together HERE

Behind The Scenes: The Making Of ‘Hip Hop’ With Nas x Scarface x Justice League x DJ Premier (Video)

DJ Khaled’s new album ‘Kiss The Ring’ is on the way, but the track that everyone is talking about is the collaboration he orchestrated with Nas, Scarface, DJ Premier, & the production team Justice League. When I first heard this song I knew it was a definite banger! I’ve often said that sometimes being a good producer doesn’t always involve touching a lot of buttons & equipment, but people who have a great vision can score big. Rick Rubin is a producer who doesn’t play any instruments, but he has great vision & a good ear. Props to DJ Khaled for having the vision for this banger right here. Check the video….

TenDJiz – “CommoNasm” (Common x Nas Meet Soviet Soul/Jazz)

Mash up Common and Nas and mix in some Soviet soul to get “CommoNasm”…Clever…VERY clever! The liner notes at the Bandcamp or Soundcloud site for this gem should draw you in (like it did me):

“CommoNasm (Common and Nas Meet Soviet Soul/Jazz) is an album created by Miami-based producer/sound engineer TenDJiz by blending the acapellas of Common and Nas with instrumentals based on Soviet soul and jazz samples.”

Enjoy this TenDJiz mash-up, y’all. Looks like mash-ups are the in thing, huh?

Gud – “Lunchroom Battles” (featuring Nas and Akinyele)[1991]

As Gud recalls (see The Gudword at www.Flampro.com), he just happened to be at DJ Wishbone’s house on the summer day of 1991 that Akinyele decided to bring Nas through to do their “Live at the BBQ” lyrics and such on a mixtape. “Live at the BBQ” was not yet the smash hit (and the music industry was not yet the bullsh–) it would become (see our video post of “Live at the BBQ” performed LIVE here). Lucky for him, Gud had the good sense (so wanted to say “Gud” sense, but naahhhh) to record this piece of history. Most fortunate for us, Gud has chosen to bless us with a listening copy of the content online. Gud fashioned it into a mix he calls “Lunchroom Battles” (featuring Nas and Akinyele). This is so dope for him to do this! Do you realize that 1991 nearly predates the creation of the worldwide web? Do you realize that there was a Nas before “Illmatic”Akinyele before “Put It In Her Mouth”? Of course you do (or you do now, because you roll with us)! But doesn’t it feel good going back? Yup! Well, listen to this gem and go back… to the beginning of the Golden Era of Hip-Hop!

K’La – “Blame” (featuring Nas)

Hailing from Gary, Indiana (the same small town that gave us Michael Jackson, the Jackson 5, and Janet Jackson), Island Def Jam’s newbie singer K’La puts in worthy work with Nas on “Blame.” A few short years ago, K’La moved to Atlanta to pursue a music career of her own. Waiting tables to pay for studio time, K’La eventually met Anthony “T.A.” Tate (CEO, Tate Music Line). After auditioning for him, K’La signed on with the label and released a mixtape, “Coldest Winter Ever” (free download available here), featuring the track “All Your Love”, produced by Stephen Marley. Fast forward to today: Now, she’s working on her debut album. Make moves, K’La! We see you!
