As a Philly native it’s amazing for me to see what the The Roots annual picnic on Festival Pier on Penn’s Landing has grown into. The Roots continue to make me proud to be from Philly not only for the music they present to the world, but in the many ways they reach back for Philly artists, Philly fans, the city, & the community at large. This is the type of sound most hardcore Nas fans like myself enjoy hearing him rock over. I hope Nas’s upcoming album ‘Life Is Good’ follows a similar pattern. Salaam Remi gave Nas this track that will make the average rapper sound basic over, but Nas lyrically gets busy with it…..with ease.

The first Lost Tapes album by Nas still gets a considerable amount of rotation from me personally & occasionally a track or two I’d go back & play on the radio. Many fans like myself were anxiously awaiting the Lost Tapes 2 project, but unfortunately with all the drama up there at Def Jam, Nas makes it clear that will there will not be another one. That’s some very disappointing news to hear.

This new joint from Baltimore native CJ Hilton reminds me of those classic R&B/Hip Hop blend tapes I remember cats like DJ Juice (Trenton,NJ), DJ Ron G, & a few other DJs used to put together in the 90s. The song itself sounds like one of those R&B/Hip Hop mixes within the song itself & with Nas adding some bars you can’t go wrong at all with this banger! Niiiiiiice!

Nas – ‘Top Down’ feat. Swizz Beatz

I’ve was playing this song on the radio show maybe a year or two ago but apparently this is the final mixed & mastered version with an extra verse from Nas that Swizz Beatz let loose. I’m assuming because Nas didn’t used it Swizz Beatz decided to use the song for his solo album he dropped a few years back. Anyway enjoy the full mastered version with all of Nas’s vocals…..
