This is part three of the promo series for Cooyah Clothing (established since 1987), a Jamaican clothing company now doing business in Florida. After the success of both part one & two, Jah Prince was asked to mix another for the African and European markets with tracks that the company loves. These CDs get sent out with purchase orders but JayForce.com still got the linkz!!

Cali Carma – Tired Of Rap (Album)

Atlanta based emcee Cali Carma drops this new mixtape called “Tired Of Rap” which showcases his ability to show off his ill lyricism, but it also highlights the fact that he’s a bonafide star once he gets the proper spotlight. Most artists can be pigeonholed into one or two types of styles in much the same way a “Conscious” rap artist wouldn’t get airplay in the club & a “Trap rapper” wouldn’t get play from real hip hop enthusiasts & purists. Cali Carma’s “Tired Of Rap” project shows that Cali can navigate various styles within hip hop without it coming off forced, wack, or devoid of creative lyricism. Most of us can get tired of rap, but if more cats like Cali Carma are in the game it would be a lot better. Key bangers off of this joint are “NFL”, “Tired Of Rap”, “Hear Me Out”, “Half Empty”, “Good Love”, “E.D.E.N.”, “Hear Me Now”, & few others I plan to eventually play on my radio show & on my ipod regularly. Also in attendance was V103 radio host Osei the Dark Secret, Morgan Heritage extended family, Denroy Morgan, Gramps Morgan and several other sibblings/family.

Killer Mike – ‘Bang 3X’ (EP)

Killer Mike dropped this 9 song EP/Mixtape BANG 3X as an appetizer before his third album in the I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind series drops on May 17th. My favorite track on this joint by far is the ‘Blind Justice’ joint produced by DJ Toomp. Personally I’m hoping Killer Mike diversified his sound a little more on the upcoming album because I’ve always felt time & time again that Killer Mike just needs the right beats. I think the joint ‘Ready, Set, Go,’ produced NO I.D. & this banging ‘Blind Justice’ joint produced by DJ Toomp is a start in the right direction. I personally feel if he can adequately round out his sound a little more he could win many more fans beyond the south. Unfortunately I believe the politics involving the hardcore fans that only want those 808s may have something to do with it.

DJ Green Lantern: Master Class (A Remix-perience) Mixtape

Green Lantern is known for putting together some creative mixtapes over the years. The key ingredients tend to be great song selection, arrangements, & most importantly the original remixes he puts together himself. DJ Green Lantern is a new Atlanta resident & has been on Atlanta’s V-103 on the airwaves. I checked him out on the first few times of his debut  after he mentioned it on twitter.  I didn’t enjoy his debut on Atlanta radio & I’m assuming he was forced to play some of the wack stuff we’re already used to here. I had to turn it off after a few minutes of listening. That’s commercial radio for you though. Good thing Green Lantern still does creative mixtapes because I’d rather ride out to his creative works instead of listening to him play music on commercial radio that most of us don’t normally f*ck with anyway.

Hometown Hero: The Best Of Big K.R.I.T. Mixtape

The big homie Justin over at Kevinnottingham.com send me this compilation he put together highlighting the best of Mississippi artist & Def Jam signee Big K.R.I.T.. Honestly I’ve never been that familiar with Big K.R.I.T.‘s entire catalog although there have been a few songs here & there that I managed to catch that I thought were cool & some I’ve even played on my radio show like the ‘Hold You Down’ remix he appeared on with Laws & Emilio Rojas. I also dug the ‘Can’t Be All’ joint inspired by Outkast’s earlier sound. I know Big K.R.I.T. had a lot of buzz prior to signing with Def Jam so this compilation Justin put together should be quite helpful. Admittedly this will help me get up to speed & really dig into what the buzz is really about.  I’ll willingly take a late pass on a good artist then fake the funk on something that was manufactured hype.  The complete tracklisting for the compilation is under the hood.
