Miguel Gives A Mini-Concert To Raise Awareness And Help Poor Working Class Families (Video)

This is what art is for: touching the lives of people where they live. Miguel, doing so sharing his music and a personal backstory to connect, gave a private mini-concert in partnership with the Make Room group (www.MakeRoomUSA.org). About 35 lives will never be the same. People packed into a small home outside Detroit (Michigan, USA), singing, clapping and getting a little chocked up; while Miguel uses his gift and platform as a performing artist to raise awareness of working single parents struggling to keep roofs over their families’ heads.

As humans moving through life as best we can, we often wish could go back and [at least] talk to our past selves. Had to strike a chord within us to see this piece that blends throwback footage a hopeful up-and-coming Miguel blended with commentary from the seasoned mega-talent we have come to know over the years since. SO much insight on the artist, and the man, in a short clip. Watch.
[B]ack in 2008, we shot a young hopeful in San Pedro. He took us by his house, told us about his family. He was stuck, then, in a contract with a label that wanted him to be somebody different. He was busy holding the line, a little flustered, but not shook. He believed. When we went back to him this summer, we found the same person.

Crazy thing is… that at one time folks called Miguel’s sexuality into question. But he never responded with hate or seemed fake. Just kept keeping it real (and real freaky) with the interviews, music and performances. Now dude has positioned himself as the ultimate lover, even giving advice on ‘sensual strategy.’ And he is following some of his own advice in the short film (pretty much 3 music vids in 1) named for (and promoting) his “Wildheart” album. Rewind: A Young ‘Kendrick Lamar’ Parties with ‘U-N-I’ & ‘Miguel’ in their “Lately” Clip (Video)

Recently I was watching one of my favorite videos “Lately” from the duo U-N-I from the West Coast. Â Well U-N-I (YO & Thurz) are no longer a group but Thurz has continued to make music as a solo artist. Â The video was refreshing it had a Cali vibe plenty of fly ladies in it and just a couple of brothers having a good time. Â The video came out in 2010 and singing the hook is a young Miguel who has went on to have big success with a new album titled “Wildheart” that will be released June 30th 2015. Â Something that stuck out to me this time when I was revisiting the video was a scene where the guys have some friends backstage partying and to my surprise I see a young baby faced Kendrick Lamar with a cameo. Â Of course he was putting out music back then and making a name on the West Coast but nothing like what he is doing now how he dominates the Hip Hop charts. Â Well enjoy this rewind video and remember you never know who might be in the background of a video will turn out to be a huge star!

Miguel’s new joint “How Many Drinks” off of his Grammy nominated ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’ album is one of my favorite tracks off of his project. There weren’t many ways to improve on such a dope song, but adding Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar for the remix & within the new video makes it even more of a massive win. Now as Miguel begins his tour for the album he wants his fans to experience the ride with him in these new videos he’ll be releasing as he goes from city to city.
