The late, great J Dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time. Since his death in 2006, Dilla’s mother Maureen “Ma Dukes†Yancey has worked tirelessly to further her son’s legacy, and her latest effort is the new project Motor City. Inspired by Dilla’s beloved hometown, Motor City is a collection of rare and unreleased Jay Dee instrumentals, hand-selected and sequenced by Ma Dukes. Conceived as a “letter†to her son, Motor City is packaged in a limited-edition mailing envelope, complete with a handwritten message from Ma Dukes to J Dilla inside. This 19-track collection will be available at physical and digital outlets worldwide on April 21st, 2017.

The spirit of J Dilla lives on way past his death. Â If you are not familiar J Dilla as a producer set the soundtrack for artists from Common to Erykah Badu to Talib Kweli to D’Angelo, A Tribe Called Quest and many more. Â His mother Ma Dukes along with the Dilla Foundation have kept his mission and movement going to this day. Â Recently Ma Dukes along with the Dilla Foundation were in Atlanta to announce the new ATL Dilla Chapter. Â The night consisted of a great beat battle from producers all over the country. Â It was capped off by great performances from Methuzulah and Planet Asia. Â Check out more videos after the jump.

The J Dilla Foundation, spearheaded by his mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, made the trip across the pond to London recently for a special event that raised over $17,000 for the organization & for Lupus UK. Many DJs rocked the London crowd with classic joints crafted by J Dilla through the evening & Detroit’s own Phat Kat even performed while Ma Dukes danced with the crowd as well. In the video he sheds some light on the project that initially started out as a mixtape honoring J Dilla but it eventually took a life of its own & grew into something bigger that involved Dilla’s mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey.
