LL Cool J was soooo serious in that movie though… “Box!” Sway appropriately gives up all kinds of props to the born James Todd Smith, the G.O.A.T. Uncle L. And LL breaks down where the business was, is, and where it could go and more. His history and making history. The talk about it all on this episode of Sway In The Morning.

Classic Clips: LL Cool J (1986) [Video]
LL stands for Ladies Love (and much more)… and he gets across that he LOVES the LADIES immediately to the interviewer! Great clip; more than just ‘playalistic’ stuff, LL Cool J is speaking on rap styling and life in general. The discussion really touches on the underpinnings of what Hip-Hop was meant to be. Too short. Well worth watching though.
Interview with LL Cool J in his old neighbourhood for Dutch Television (by Marcel Vanthilt). Old School Hip-Hop – Broadcast of 1986 by VPRO.

LL Cool J – “The Pharmacy” With Dr. Dre (Video)
Anybody who was not hollering by the time Uncle L wrapped that clip above with, “And you know I can’t live without my [Beats 1] RADIO,” go sit in the corner! Wait, come back. Just play it again, and act like you are supposed to act when you get LL going back to Cali to do do work with the West Coast’s most prolific producer: Act like you are losing your damned mind… Sick in the head. See a snip of LL Cool J’s visit with the Dr. Dre above.

Action Bronson – “Strictly 4 My Jeeps” ft. LL Cool J x Lloyd Banks (Remix)
You know, an earlier post gave a shout to producer Harry Fraud for flipping the “How I Could Just Kill a Man” cut from Cypress Hill for Action Bronson’s “Strictly 4 My Jeeps.” But a closer match for the beat was “Rampage” by EPMD featuring LL Cool J. Maybe Uncle L got wind of the single. Maybe he felt he could rip up a piece of the track on a remix. Maybe we end the ‘maybes’ and share this new Action Bronson “Strictly 4 My Jeeps” (Remix) featuring LL Cool J… and Lloyd Banks to round out the line up. Enjoy!
Action Bronson’s album “Saaab Stories” is due out on iTunes June 11, 2013.

Flashback June 1985: 17-Year-Old LL Cool J Performing In Maine (Video)
Spotted this video of LL Cool J & his DJ Cut Creator performing at Colby College in Waterville, Maine at the age of 17. LL Cool J was about to release his Def Jam debut & soon-to-be classic “Radio” album later that year & this performance could have been a possible promo tour he was on back then. Back in the early 80s hip hop was still expanding commercially so I’m not surprised at the crowd’s modest reaction in Maine at the young upstart who may have been unknown to most of the audience. Some may say hip hop in 1985 was largely popular in cities like NY, Philly, L.A., & Chicago as it was still expanding throughout the country to smaller towns like Waterville Maine. I love vintage video clips like these. Shout out to PHMB & Kodiak Star who uploaded this rare vintage video with this message….

Marley Marl Classic Recipes: Recreates LL Cool J’s ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ With Unreleased Verse (Video)
“In the first installment of Marley Marl ‘Classic Recipes,’ he shows you how he produced the beat for the 1991 Grammy award-winning chart-topping single “Mama Said Knock You Out” by LL Cool J. He discusses the collaboration and the production process of the track, as well as methods and tools that were used, including the Akai MPC60 and E-Mu SP-1200, the preferred sampler and drum machine for most hip hop producers at that time. In this video Marley Marl loads the samples into his new production weapons of choice, Ableton Live and the Akai APC40, including bits of Sly And The Family Stone’s “Trip To Your Heart” and James Brown’s “Funky Drummer”.
Throughout the video, the DJ legend gives invaluable advice and tips for young and up and coming producers, and he concludes the episode by offering a mixing technique for Ableton Live users and lovers of 808 kicks and other bass-heavy kick drums, and an alternate rock version of the song with never before heard lyrics recorded by LL in 1990.” – Dubspot

Young Chris – ‘Hey Lover’ (Trailer)
Young Chris delivers a pretty dope remake of the LL Cool J & Boyz II Men classic ‘Hey Lover’ which will appear on his upcoming mixtape L.I.F.E. (Ladies In Free Everywhere) dropping May 24th. Lyrically I’m not mad at this at all & it works because Young Chris is one of those types of artists that I believe could weave in & out of that ‘ladies man lane’ rather effortlessly. The L.I.F.E. Mixtape drops next Tuesday, but you can download the full song below….
