Classic Clips: Pete Rock – “The Making of Soul Survivor” (Video)
To Hip Hop enthusiasts, Pete Rock is generally considered one of the top 5, if not the best Hip Hop producer of ALL TIME. His classic horns, bass lines, melodic pianos, James Brown samples, and gritty drums generated a signature sound to produce timeless joints such as “The World is Yours” and “T.R.O.Y”. I always though it was dope when artists gave glimpses into their world as they were creating material, so as a fan we can see what their creative process is and how they get down. Well this documentary gives us a look into the Chocolate Boy Wonder’s world as he was creating what I would consider a classic in “Soul Survivor”. With the likes of Ghostface, Big Pun, Mc Ehit, Nore, Sticky Fingaz, Prodigy, Inspectah Deck, Kurupt, CL Smooth, Method Man, Raekwon, Tragedy Kadafi, Cappandonna, Heavt D, O.C, Common, Large Pro, Kool G Rap, Black Thought, and Beenie Man, some would agree that this may be one of the great all time line up’s for a solo/concept album (I would throw Prince Paul’s Prince of Thieves in the there too). With PR’s navigating and directing this magnum opus of a project , no artist seemed out of place, and each track banged out as they transitioned into each other smoothly creating a great album flow. Check the the rest of history in the making after the jump!-Isreal Read the rest of this entry »

This should a dope project. Be sure to cop it when the album drops!
Mos Def on DOOM (Video)
Always dope to see when hip hop artists show each other love. All the so called “Beef” is always magnified and blown up in the media. We don’t see enough props being given. Check how Mos quotes DOOM verses off the head word for word, showing that he isn’t just a dope artists himself, but a true fan of the culture. -Isreal
Vicious Cycle – “You People” (Video)
Lately I have been hearing a lot of really good hip hop from female artists. This is a duo from Texas coming with quality production and vicious lyrics. Actually I been hearing these ladies spit better and harder bars than a lot of the male emcee’s. Don’t sleep, these ain’t the typical sexed out, scantly dressed, sell my body, shake my ass for props hip hop from the ladies you maybe used to. Viscous Cycle, along with the likes of Dynasty, Boog Brown, Natee, Stahhr, Sa-Roc, Jean Grae, Eternia, Tiye Phoniex are tearin’ verses to shreads over gutter beats. Yo these ladies swords are sharp…so you better protect yo neck!!
Madlib – “Charlie Hustle”
This is a new track from Strong Arm Steady featured on Madlib’s Medicine Show No. 11. The good people at Stone’s Throw do a great job with releasing the music that makes you cop it with limited edition packs and this project has a special 3LP release that has a lot of extras.

Producer Illastrate Draws Musical Pictures With Eddie Coleman’s Friday Night Theme Music
Although he originally hails from the midwest, Illastrate has been one of Atlanta’s best kept secrets on production duties for a few years now. He’s been the go to guy for many artists representing quality Soul & true school Hip Hop music. He recently dropped a new album on his birthday at the end of 2010 called ‘Eddie Coleman’s Friday Night Theme Music’ with the track ‘Inner G’ as the lead single. The Inner G track is so smooth I’ve even used it as a music bed on my radio show to talk over. I’ll give you a taste of the the Inner G track in this post but make sure you check out & support illastrate’s bandcamp page & website Working Class Music Group. Quality work
