Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Cops Some Sneakers (Video)
Dez gots aaalll the Jordans. Dez cops aaalll the Jordans (hence, he stays having all the Jordans). Sure, he is Team Cowboys; but watching this, you KNOW he is Team Jordan Brand. This ep of ‘Sneaker Shopping’ is another one for folks who get their kicks from copping kicks.
Nate Robinson: Is A Pro Football Career A Slam Dunk For The Former NBA All-Star? (Video)
You’ve watched sports contests on the tube, and from time to time likely thought, “Look at the big man. He could bowl ’em over on the field as easily as he bangs down low to the bucket,” or… “Dude can move! Even at his size, he’s dunking over the crossbar AFTER leaving everybody 20 yards behind!”
Let’s call them crossover [football or basketball] ballers. Now, who among the retired greats of one sport do you think could come back and do the damn thang in the other? Quickly… times up! How about Nate Robinson? Is anybody thinking Nate Robinson can do it? Well, Nate is…and he could give a damn whether you agree or not.
Nate Robinson, the three time Slam Dunk champion and one of the most dynamic athletes in NBA history is considering a run at the NFL. Friends (Jamal Crawford, Glen Davis), former coaches (Rick Neuheisel), and NFLers (Marcedes Lewis, Brendon Ayanbadejo) think Nate has what it takes. Do you?
Could Nate be that next-level crossover baller? Looks like we are about to find out!
Jerry Rice: NFL Hall Of Fame Receiver… And Undercover Lyft Driver (Video)
That one guy though. Really dude? You are an all-time, all your life, 49’er fan and you did not recognize the guy you’re sitting next to? One of the team’s… check that…the WORLD’S all-time greats?? Actually… Jerry’s disguise is pretty solid. He can go shopping low-key. Still hilariously wonderful though.
See what happens when Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice turns on Driver Mode for a day and takes a few unsuspecting Lyft passengers for a ride around town.
Watch the whole song and dance above.
60 Minutes: Football And The Brain (Video)
Well… with Frank Gifford’s post mortem diagnosis of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), we get yet another headline and reminder that football – like it or love it – is a dangerous COLLISION sport wrought with injuries…when playing and for the decades beyond. Try and try as American football’s flagship (the National Football League) might, no one has been able to reengineer injury out of the game. Look no further than comments from the NFL commish Roger Goodell in the 60 Minutes clip (embedded after the jump, or click the pic above) for a dose of football-injury reality.
Steve Kroft: You think the game is safer than it’s ever been before?
Roger Goodell: I do. I’m convinced of it. I think the changes that we’ve made have had real results. And we’re seeing that.
Steve Kroft: But do you believe it’s safe?
Roger Goodell: I do believe it’s safer. But injuries are part of active sports and they’re certainly part of football. Football is a contact sport.
Or you could boil it down to retired Ravens’ linebacker Ed Reed’s response…
Steve Kroft: Can you take the violence out of football?
Ed Reed: No.
Truly engaging treatment of the the topic in “Football And The Brain” on CBS News’ 60 Minutes.
Carmelo Anthony Goes To Puerto Rico, To ‘Stay Melo’ In The Hood To Do Some Good And More (Video)
New Stay Melo ep on VICE Sports for y’all. Last one was about Cuba. This time it’s Puerto Rico.
Carmelo Anthony recognizes, like most looking outside in, that Puerto Rico is currently in economic decline. But to Melo it’s a place of family, opportunity and a growing sports culture. He goes to chill (Melo out, if you will) but also to do some goodwill and good work. Spent a few days training with a group of fellow Knicks, seeing the stadium that will house his Puerto Rico FC NASL team, riding out to La Perla (one of Puerto Rico’s most notorious hoods), hanging out with reggaeton legend Tempo (home after a 12 year prison bid) at one of the b-ball courts Melo has refurbished for the community and more stuff.
Sure, ballers are in the League…balling. But with all that wealth, if you aren’t doing something…you got nothing! Just saying. Now, watch and listen as Melo does something; and shares and wrestles with his vision for what he’d like to accomplish in PR.

ESPN’s 30-For-30: Trojan War (Video)
Ah, college football fans. Let’s talk about the Pete Carroll – USC Era. He took over the program at the University Of Southern California after the 2000 season, and eventually restored the luster and swagger of the once-great Trojans with his football knowledge, upbeat personality and recruiting skills (and a couple of star graduates who’d come back to visit, if recollection serves).
Soon enough, Southern Cal was back! Topping the college football world in home field attendance; turning out win after win, multiple Heisman Trophy winners (e.g. Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush), marquee TV respect (ABC & Keith Jackson don’t just call any game)…
BUT…
There was sinning at the revival of USC. And the worst sin of all D-1 sins, THEY GOT CAUGHT! Lost scholarships, overturned victories, a returned Heisman award… oh my. All of the fall would come to light after the 2006 National Championship game. USC lost the Rose Bowl that year to The University of Texas. Then the proverbial bottom fell the f##k out!
The hurt ran deep and are really only numbing today. At least now we can really talk about it. Well, Coach Carroll, Heisman-winning quarterback Leinart and others can that is. Watch “Trojan War,” an ESPN 30-For-30 special, above.
World Soccer Legend Cristiano Ronaldo Is The Focus Of New Film “Ronaldo” (Video)
Some people regard you as the greatest player of your Sport. Â Numerous women call you handsome and rush just to be in your presence. You make at least 60 to 70,000 dollars/pounds/euros a WEEK. Â I think most would take that and Cristiano Ronaldo (Footballer/Soccer Player) for Real Madrid (club) and Portugal (national team) has all of that and more.
What we don’t get to see is the countless hours away from family. As much love you get from fans you get just as much hate worldwide. Â Sacrificing joy and childhood to be the best at a Sport. Â Fearing that you might do the same with your own children. Â The pressure that is put all on your shoulders regardless of how good or bad your team plays each week. The joys and the hardships of being a worldwide phenomenom, heartthrob, and sports icon. Â Check out this trailer to get a glimpse into the life of #9 Ronaldo!
Carmelo Anthony Goes To Cuba To Cover Soccer, Soak In The Culture and Scoop Some Cigars (Video)
Very dope. And the time is right. Soccer (e.g. football, futbol) being the world sport it is, America being a leading sports nation, and Melo being a leading sportsman from America…
Throughout the NBA off-season VICE Sports and Carmelo Anthony are exploring street sport cultures around the world. In our premiere episode, Melo travels to Cuba to explore the rise of soccer in a nation synonymous with baseball, ride a 1950s drop top in the rain, and grab some fresh rolled Cuban cigars along the way.
Carmelo was a good choice for a correspondent, too. This VICE Sports piece felt more like interesting leisure than intense learning; enriching experience captured on video either way.
Marshawn Lynch’s ‘Beast Mode’ Fish Tank (Video)

Woodlawn (Trailer)
Wow! Jon Voight, C. Thomas Howell, and Sean Astin show up to film what promises to be a movie that will give you chill bumps. The setting: Birmingham, Alabama. The set location: BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA.
That’s right. Hollywood star power comes to the Magic City to tell the true story of ‘Touchdown’ Tony Nathan (played by Caleb Castille, son of Alabama and NFL star player Jeremiah Castille). Watch the “Woodlawn” trailer tease the ups, downs, controversies, conquering and overcoming it took to get from the ‘Ham down the highway to play for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s (played by Voight) Alabama Crimson Tide… onto the field and onto the pages of history.
In theaters this October.

World Soccer Pioneer ‘Paul Canoville’ Speaks On Being 1st Black Player Signed to ‘Chelsea FC’ (Video)
When it comes to Sports being the first or a trailblazer can be good and bad at times.  It’s great if you are the first to set a world record or obtain hall of fame for having the most championship rings.  Well when you are the first to break the color line it can be a difficult process and Paul Canoville knows exactly how that feels.  The first black player ever signed to Chelsea FC (Soccer Team based in London, England) Paul experienced harsh treatment from his own fans and people associated with the team.  His love of the sport helped him push through and he helped the team secure championship silverware and now he is an advocate for the club speaking to kids  about pursuing their dreams and dealing with racism.  On his first trip to Atlanta I got a chance to speak with him for a few minutes about his experience at Chelsea and his foundation.  With Atlanta getting a MLS Soccer team in 2017, we can expect more visits from Soccer legends across the pond!

Snoop Dogg’s Son ‘Cordell Broadus’ Will Begin His College Career As A Wide Receiver For UCLA (Video)
Snoop Dog’s son Cordell Broadus was one of the top high school prospects in the country before he made his decision to play for UCLA as a wide receiver. Cordell won’t be the only son of a hip hop industry veteran playing under head coach Jim Mora as P Diddy’s son Justin Combs is also playing over at UCLA as a defensive back. Snoop Dogg appeared on ESPN’s First Take & also added his opinion that rap artists should speak to the young guys coming into the NFL & NBA to help keep them out of trouble.

Mike Vick’s First Interview as Quarterback for The New York Jets (Video)
I’m kinda sad to see Mike Vick no longer playing for my hometown Philadelphia Eagles, but I’m excited he’s still being given the opportunity to play in the NFL for head coach Rex Ryan & the New York Jets. I’m not a fan of the NY Jets, but I’m definitely a fan of Mike Vick & Rex Ryan. I believe they’ll make a good combination up there in New York City & I hope they do well this upcoming season except, if and when, they play my Oakland Raiders. Check out this new video from Mike Vick’s first interview as a NY Jet above. The reporter asks the standard run of the mill questions, but he missed a key opportunity to ask what number does Mike expect to wear this season considering both he & Geno Smith both like the number “7”. I’m sure there won’t be any beefs between Geno & Mike based on their mutual interests in helping to push each other, but just who will get that number “7” should be interesting.
Snoop Loves The Kids… Enough To Keep Them Safe From Concussions While Playing Youth Football (Video)
Hey, the NFL has all kinds of media focus on the concussion problem in its sport. But by the time they get them in the pros, those athletes have been bouncing their brains around inside their helmets (inside their skulls) for around 20 years; since youth football days. Who’s attacking the problem at that end? Who’ll get some spotlight shone at that stage. No stranger to the stage, Snoop Dogg has picked up the flag.
There is, of course, a secondary problem that should quickly move to the top of the chart; caused by parents’ fear of injury to their kids. Fewer and fewer children are participating in organized leagues that have positive impact on the lives of youth, like the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL). Snoop wants the word out that his league is working the problem, and getting somewhere. If only he could get some NFL “oomph” behind the push.
“In my league, we’ve had less injuries over the last two years because of what we’re teaching. “I feel like if we go down to the levels and the NFL comes to the hoods and teaches us what they want us to do, by the time they get to the NFL, they’ve been practicing this their whole life.â€
– Snoop Dogg
Hopefully, what has been a hood-doing-good success story will not fade away. Just peep the video above highlighting good gridiron stuff from Flo-Rida’s and Snoop’s youth leagues. Shout to HipHopDx for this.
The Army & Navy Used Kanye West & Justin Timberlake As Inspiration For Their Annual Football Rivalry (Video)
Artist Tosa Brooks snapping over an instrumental reproduction (by Crsxh) of Kanye West’s “Blood on the Leaves” to amp the West Point footballers (aka Army) for one game and one goal…
“Beat Navy!”
Too bad hype videos don’t win games, as the Navy Midshipmen (of the United States Naval Academy) rolled 34-7 over the Army Black Knights for the 12th year in the row. Nice job though, Tosa. Maybe next year, Army.
So, how many of y’all wonder if Navy did a video. Heh heh, check after the jump. It’s al-riiighht. Hahahaaa!
Ray Lewis: A Football Life (Documentary)
Any avid football fan should be able to recognize that when it’s all said & done, Ray Lewis will be considered the greatest linebacker in the history of the NFL. Not only will he be heralded for what he did on the playing field, but how he has inspired many people beyond football. Check out the NFL network’s special program “A Football Life” in which Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is the featured subject. Awe-Inspiring.
