Erykah Badu – “I Been Goin Thru It All”
All I got is my fam. If you don’t give a f*ck, then I don’t really give a damn.
– Erykah Badu
Ms. Badu, aka FADER Magazine’s next cover girl, is doing the most with this one… the most honest, the most non-trapping trap-style, most middle-finger-let-it-linger jawn… yeah, all that. You think she gone bust out into song or keep busting out real-talk lines on this “I Been Goin Thru It All” track? Keep listening and find out. Stream above and link below.
Mac Miller: Stopped Making Excuses (Documentary)
Deep. Never had any problem with Pittsburgh emcee Mac Miller. Some did. And according to this documentary, dude had major problems with himself. Critics were hitting Miller hard in his pride since he was 19. Still he pressed on, got his his 2011 debut album pressed and independently released, and kept the pressure on until it hit #1 on Billboard. But then he moved to Los Angeles… and hit a sharp downward spiral into drug abuse. Talk about PROBLEMS! But, of course, Miller found his way through (and lived to tell the story above).
I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess that can’t even get out of his house. You don’t go down in history because you overdosed.
Real sh!t. See what he went through, and how he made it through, in the documentary “Mac Miller: Stopped Making Excuses.”
Isaiah Rashad – Obey Your Thirst (Documentary)
Great ‘Obey Your Thirst’ documentary on Chattanooga (Tennessee) emcee of TDE, Isaiah Rashad. Nobody is gonna do it like him; that’s his proclamation. See him speak truth to life, and on his life & budding career, in the clip above.
“You never know how interesting your own world is until you document it.”
– Isaiah Rashad
Drake Speaks The Truth In His ‘Obey Your Thirst’ Documentary (Video)
I agree with Drake in many of the points he made in this new Fader mini-documentary. I’ve given advice to artists all the time about similar things as to what’s said in this interview. Most don’t listen which is probably why they aren’t as successful as they’d like to be on their OWN terms. Stay focused.
“Coming up in Toronto, people told Drake to move to New York if he was serious about making it. Instead, he stayed where he was and made history by proving that if you’re a truly multi-layered artist, you can make it from anywhere. “Do it the way I did it,” he says in the above Obey Your Thirst documentary. “Do it from where you’re at. If you have the music, that’s all it takes.”
Now, at the top of his game, Drake says he competes not with established legends or other top-sellers, but with the countless kids itching to take his spot. Now that hip-hop’s playing field is more open than ever before, Drake knows
there are countless kids itching to take his spot. Those up-and-comers are now his competition, not any established rapper. “That’s how I try to keep pushing this forward,†he says. “Just to let that kid know that I’m not done yet.â€
‘Alchemist’ x ‘Oh No’ Spill The Beans About Themselves (Video)
Gangrene (comprised of Alchemist and Oh No) did a sit down with Fader for its ‘Everything You Need To Know About’ series. Gangrene, hella hard name. Alchemist and Oh No spoke, done work with and for some of Hip-Hop’s hardest; putting out some street-credible heat themselves. So… of course, you would expect that they grew up in Beverly Hills and have mastered Legend of Zelda video-gaming, right?
Wait, WHAT?!
Yeah, view even more of the duo getting it all out in the clear above.

SXSW: Kendrick Lamar – “Hiiipower” (Video)
West coast emcee Kendrick Lamar rocks one of my favorite songs from his Section 80 album at the Fader Fort down at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Yeah this is definitely ‘Hiiipower’….

New Music: Yuna – “Live Your Life” (Prod. By Pharrell)
This song is so dope I went ahead & purchased it. I’m not that familiar with Malaysian artist Yuna, but after seeing a tweet about this song on the new Fader label I found it to be a pretty dope discovery. I wasn’t even fully aware that FADER had a music label until now either…..
“FADER Label signee Yuna’s new Pharrell-produced single “Live Your Life†is a full-pour of positivity, delivered with remarkable, quiet power. Yuna’s singing is comfortable and still flawless, trilling easily over Pharrell’s soft drums. She will release a full-length this spring. Stream “Live Your Life†below or buy it on iTunes.” – FADER
