Jeff N Fess – “Mr. Officer” feat. Eric Roberson (Prod. By The Playlist A-Team)
Serious music making happened at Jazzy Jeff’s Playlist Retreat 2016. Here’s one of the dopest outcomes of the gathering, Jeff N Fess (DJ Jazzy Jeff & Rhymefest) lacing a beat produced at the event – “Mr. Officer” (featuring crooner Eric Roberson).
After hearing a few bars of a particular arrangement, Eric Roberson was inspired to write. The first words uttered: Mr. Officer, can you spare some change? If they say art imitates life. Then Mr. Officer, by Jeff N Fess, feat. Eric Roberson, is art’s response to life. “Some people march, some people protest; we make music,” says DJ Jazzy Jeff of the motivation behind releasing Mr. Officer. Increasing reports of police brutality and deaths of unarmed Black men at the hands of law enforcement led to this musical expression of hurt, anger and frustration. Mr. Officer is produced by The Playlist A-Team, comprised of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Stro Elliot, Daniel Crawford, Steve McKie, Kaidi Tatham and Eric Lau. This ensemble of gifted musicians worked together to create a sound that uncomplicated, yet moving. Lyricists Eric Roberson and Rhymefest shine light this complex and emotional issue with heartfelt simplicity.

You will cry hot tears by the end. Expect it. Powerful music with a powerful message powerfully delivered can overpower you like that.

Tall Black Guy x Eric Lau x kidkanevil x Mr. Thing – “Thing Leaves The House” (Instrumental EP)
Great product above. In honor of RSD (Record Store Day) 2015, Tall Black Guy, Eric Lau, kidkanevil and Mr. Thing put out “Thing Leaves The House.” Can’t tell it better than DJ Gilla did for the First Word Records write-up:
Running an independent record label in 2015 is a tricky, (and some would say foolish) task. It is of course, a privilege to be given the responsibility to get an artist’s music out into the world, but the label’s side of the job is more about spreadsheets and sales ledgers than champagne and cigars. That is why last year’s Record Store Day was genuinely one of the most memorable and important days in the life of First Word. We released our first RSD release – Nothing Leaves The House, a project that was dreamt up on RSD 2012, and finally shared two years later. Unlike most records we release, we were able to be there as music fans discovered the record in the shops – an experience that was inspiring, humbling and ever so slightly addictive.
So we were always going to return with part two in 2015, this time with a twist. A year on from the day the trio of Eric Lau, Tall Black Guy and kidkanevil visited Mr. Thing’s collection to sample his records (where nothing could leave the house), we gathered them at London’s Love Vinyl record shop where he had brought one record from his collection for each producer. Their challenge was to make a beat from the individually chosen records: the results massively exceeded our expectations. Originally Mr. Thing was going to make a track from something in his collection too, but the three producers decided that he should go through the same process as they would. They picked a record from the racks of the shop (they had to find one he didn’t already own first) and his beat was created from that. The result is 4 tracks that truly capture the personalities of each producer, and a record that is born out of a heartfelt love of records – we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
We’ll be back for round 3 in 2016…

Okay, so Phonte is excited.
New Eric Lau production featuring Gwen Bunn having fun with her sultry singing self. So breezy and mellow on this “Without A Doubt” track. Great vibe for a ride (in your vehicle; or as a vehicle to escape your desk via headphone travels while taking a break).
Some say love is too good to be true
but is it true?

R&B/Soul: Eric Lau – “Where To Go Now” feat. Tawiah
I’ve become a fan of DJ & producer Eric Lau’s work over the past several years after initially discovering his music. Whenever he drops something new I know without fail I can ALWAYS expect quality work. This new joint featuring the talented UK based soul singer Tawiah called “Where To Go Now” is the second single from his upcoming project “One Of Many” due June 17th. His equally as hot first single “Everytime” we had posted just a few weeks back in case you missed it. London-based singer Tawiah has been releasing some great music on her own that we’ve posted previously so discovering this new collaboration with Eric Lau was a no-brainer that the end result would be nothing short of special. I’m sure this is just “One Of Many” of the great musical pieces Tawiah & Eric Lau have coming our way. For now go ahead get cop the FREE download of the new single below.

R&B/Soul: Freddie Joachim — “Keep Lovin’ feat. Carlitta Durand
Hip Hop, Soul, & Jazz producer Freddie Joachim does it again with another quality soulful R&B banger. I’m lovin’ this new track featuring North Carolina songstress Carlitta Durand called “Keep Lovin'” that will appear on Freddie Joachim’s new project “Fiberglass Kisses” dropping later this month. There’s also a cool remix to this joint produced by Eric Lau that just hit on itunes as well. Based off of this dope single & the soulful Eric Lau remix I heard I know I’ll be in line for when the album drops.
DJ Fudge Presents ‘Hush Hush’ 5 Hip Hop Instrumental Mixtape
My homie DJ Fudge is back with another edition of his ‘Hush Hush’ series of instrumental mixtapes. If you’re not aware, ‘Hush Hush’ is a mixture of downtempo and hip hop instrumentals from the veteran Atlanta turntablist. Although this is the 5th edition of the popular series, this time around DJ Fudge decided to pick out new up and coming producers to highlight like Shade Cobain, Illastrate, Eric Lau, & Melo X as well as veteran producers in the game such as Pete Rock, DJ Spinna, King Brit, & Fat Jon. This project is blended very well creating a quality audio soundscape that you can easily ride & vibe too. If you’re ever in Atlanta you can catch DJ Fudge spinning regularly at MJQ Concourse on Ponce De Leon Ave. Check out the complete tracklisting under the hood…..Now STFU!!!
