Cocaine 80s – The Pursuit EP
This is a pretty ‘dope’ project that sort just dropped out of nowhere under the supervision of producer NO I.D. The collective known as Cocaine 80s consists of an assortment of musicians, singers, producers, & songwriters such as NO I.D., Common, Steve Wyreman, Rob Kinelski, Kevin Randolph, James Fauntleroy, Makeba, & several other players that have yet to be fully confirmed as this time. We posted the only rap oriented track featuring Common called ‘Summer Madness’ on the site previously, but there are many other quality joints on this 7 song EP that stand out like two of my favorites ‘To Tell You The Truth’ & ‘Anywhere But Here’.  Dope project that it’s obvious that the creators are allowing the product to speak for itself & you’ll keep coming back like a good customer. It’s dope……but for the ears.

Killer Mike – ‘Bang 3X’ (EP)
Killer Mike dropped this 9 song EP/Mixtape BANG 3X as an appetizer before his third album in the I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind series drops on May 17th. My favorite track on this joint by far is the ‘Blind Justice’ joint produced by DJ Toomp. Personally I’m hoping Killer Mike diversified his sound a little more on the upcoming album because I’ve always felt time & time again that Killer Mike just needs the right beats. I think the joint ‘Ready, Set, Go,’ produced NO I.D. & this banging ‘Blind Justice’ joint produced by DJ Toomp is a start in the right direction. I personally feel if he can adequately round out his sound a little more he could win many more fans beyond the south. Unfortunately I believe the politics involving the hardcore fans that only want those 808s may have something to do with it.
Self Scientific – ‘Trials Of The BlackHearted’ (EP)
Good to see Self Scientific release a a brand new project after years of separation. Chace Infinite has been dropping various freestyles here & there in addition to working with his Soul Assassins family, while DJ Khalil has been crafting audio crack for many other emcees in the game from Raekwon, Dr. Dre, Jim Jones, & a host of others. Its’ about time Chace & Khalil reconnected. We needed this from the two man group considering I’m still occasionally bumping their Gods & Gangsters project from time to time. Prodigy – ‘The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson’ EP
Complex Magazine links up with Prodigy for his first musical release since returning home from the bing. Havoc doesn’t appear anywhere on production end of this joint, but I think that’s a smart move just to keep the Mobb Deep sound different for when that particular album drops. Â The production is largely handled by Sid Roams although Alchemist & King Benny have a track each.
