MAZZI feat. S.O.U.L. Purpose – “Digital Diggin 3Minus1” (EP)

Quite often in Hip Hop old school purists will complain about technology.  The fact is technology has its pros and cons but regardless it’s here to stay and only moving faster with time.  So check this out MAZZI & S.O.U.L (Sense Of Understanding Life’s) Purpose composed an EP where MAZZI rhymes over beats made with samples all found online.  Clever Concept this is also a project of substance with a portion of of proceeds from all S.O.U.L. Purpose albums go to charity, and Mazzi regularly travels to Palestine and Israel for humanitarian work, bringing medical supplies and conducting workshops, talent shows and live performances for youth in refugee camps.
Oh and if you are wondering about his resume if you might not ever heard of MAZZI?  Well he has only shared stages with Eminem, Big Pun, G-Unit, Ghostface, M.O.P., Slick Rick, Erykah Badu and many more.  So good music that helps a good cause sounds like a good thing all the way around!

Joell Ortiz x Sam Smith – “Stay With Me” (Yaowa Remix)

The Brooklyn Puerto Rock & 1/4 of the SlaughterHouse gang, Joell Ortiz, links up with the Heatmakerz production team to give his take on the popular ‘Stay With Me’ record by London singer & songwriter Sam Smith. It appears Joell Ortiz has been knocking out a gang of remixes from popular Top 40 records as of late which could just be the setup for his upcoming Yaowa Nation EP. (Side Note: As an Oakland Raiders fan I really wish everyone would stop using the term “Nation”….There’s only 1 Nation & that’s the #RaiderNation). But we don’t want Joell Ortiz to stop giving us that heat though. YAOWAAA!

Black Milk – “Cold Day”

It’s so cold in the ‘D’ but Detroit producer & emcee Black Milk is hitting us with some sure fire heat for the winter. It was just a few months ago when Black Milk released his “No Poison, No Paradise” project and now he’s already gearing up to drop a new project called “Glitches In The Break” due May 4th. “Cold Day” is the first official single from the forthcoming ‘Glitches In The Break’ EP that will be released digitally on March 4 followed by a 12″ vinyl format on Record Store Day, April 19. Digital pre-order is available now via the Detroit musician’s Bandcamp page.

Leading by example, Emcee Logic uses his EP, and his personal finances, everyone how everyman (and woman) philanthropy through Hip-Hop music is done. In his message at the FREE download page, Logic does not ask you for a penny. Rather, he asks that you put your time and money toward causes/service that better humanity:

Fahamu Pecou presents “All Dat Glitters Ain’t Goals the EP.” Niiiiiice work! This collection of original music – inspired by Pecou’s painting series of the same title – has features from a slew of ATL Hip-Hop heavyweights (including Ekundayo the Mountain Liun (of L.I.U.N.S. DEN), Boog Brown, and Clan Destined) and from others like Stic Man of Dead Prez. The project was produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by the homie Illastrate to boot! Gary Reid and Illastrate shared in the recording duties for this masterpiece.

Dawn Richard – “Wild N’ Faith” (Video)

Dawn Richard is relentless in releasing great visuals from previous singles related to her “Armor On EP” she released back in March. This particular video is a combination of one of my favorite songs from her called “Wild N’ Young” that we posted back in May before it segues into “Faith” off of her Armor On EP. The ‘Wild N’ Young’ record was unreleased & didn’t appear on the EP so it’s possible it may turn up on her upcoming album. For an independent artist Dawn Richard is killing it with the the quality of the music & music videos while keeping her fans ready before she drops her official debut album “Goldenheart” on October 16th.

Now this is some straight up dopeness right here from Detroit DJ & producer House Shoes called “Sweet” featuring Detroit emcee Danny Brown. This is that hardcore hip hop right here & ironically there’s nothing ‘sweet’ about it at all from the subtle beat changes within the song to the mono sounding texture used on Danny Brown’s mic while ripping through his rhymes. The song appears on House Shoe’s new EP he just released called “The Time” on itunes but it the song will also appear on his first official album called “Let It Go” due June 19th.

R&B: Dawn Richard – Wild N’ Young

Dawn Richard has been dropping some very good records I’ve heard from her as a solo artist. I heard this song over the weekend from the former Dirty Money member & found it to be pretty dope as well. If I could describe this record I would say it sounds like being a young carefree person traveling all over the world in over 4 minutes. My only thing I don’t like about it is the few curses in it, but the song is official to me. Dawn dropped this unreleased gem that was originally was going to appear on her “Armor On” EP after celebrating the successful number of views of her new video “Bombs”.

Jason Boyd, also known as Poo Bear (MDMA), has been in the music business behind the scenes as a singer, songwriter, & producer crafting joints for artists such as Chris Brown, Lupe Fiasco, Wiz Khalifa, Fat Joe, Usher, Kelly Rowland, Redman, Jill Scott, 112, & too many others to name in this post. Wearing many behind the scenes hats, I’m not surprised to find out “MDMA” stands for “Most Devoted Musician Alive”. We’re in a very interesting period of music today as we’re seeing more & more of the creative people who may have been content to just work behind the scenes in the past now stepping out into the forefront as artists. This Las Vegas native just debuted his first official free EP via his website called “#Beats2BreakUp2” featuring 7 tracks of original R&B music including a pretty dope cover of Lauryn Hill’s classic “Sweetest Thing”. July 5th – Breakfast In Paris (EP)

The UK collective known as July 5th consists of producer VersA Beatz & singer/songwriter Dukus who joined forces for this quality sounding “Breakfast In Paris” project. The duo describe their sound as “Pharrell meets Coldplay” as the music does follow a sort of R&B/Alternative vibe similar to the lane artists like Frank Ocean & The Weeknd have been running with. This 10-song free album/EP does have a slight difference in that their UK background presents another chilled out dynamic that makes this joint all the more impressive.
