Elzhi – ‘February’ (Prod. By 14KT)

It felt good to look into my inbox & see some brand new music from one of my favorite Detroit emcees Elzhi. What had me even more excited was seeing that it was crafted by fellow Michigan producer 14KT who’s a beast on the beats. Although fans of Elzhi have been patiently waiting for him to drop that new album he’s been working, the timing couldn’t have been any better dropping this ‘February’ track as this cold month begins to come to a close. Another dope joint from Elzhi The Great from his upcoming project ‘Lead Poison’ due later this year in conjunction with the GLOW365 new artist alliance.

One of my favorite emcees coming out of Detroit was interviewed by the good people over at Hard Knock TV. In this in-depth two part interview interview Elzhi talks about how Ice Cube was the first rapper to make him want to rap after referencing classics like “America’s Most Wanted”, “Kill At Will” & “Death Certificate”. Elzhi also speaks about being a student of the game having studied emcees like Lord Finesse & Rakim before getting detailed about the early Detroit hip hop scene where he first met Proof & Eminem. Elzhi – “Blue Widow”

One of my favorite emcees representing Detroit is about to drop a new album called “The Weather Man” & here’s the first single from the project called “Blue Widow”. Elzhi always impresses me lyrically & the soundscape he chose immediately reminded me of Alchemist’s production for Snoop Dogg’s banger ‘Hey You’ back in 2002. Production similarities aside this is still a dope joint, but I did wish Elzhi came up with a better album title because some hip hop heads may find it too similar to Evidence’s ‘The Weatherman” album title a few years back. I’m sure Elzhi will have a dope concept like his ‘Elmatic’ project released a year ago today that may put these glaringly apparent albeit coincidental album title ideas to rest.  The album drops this fall but check out Elzhi’s upcoming tour dates according to XXL under the hood…….
