Technology: Scientists Create ‘Chemputer’ Designed To Grow Drones (Video)
Crazy. Not only would this manufacturing method be quick, but the customization possibilities could be limitless! If we get to the level of on-demand ‘made to order’ drones… wow! The range of uses alone would be exciting… and at least a touch scary (since it would first be used by the military AND those drones look like some Skynet *ish off the Terminator movies). Still, incredible concept tech though.
During this century, scientists and engineers from BAE Systems and The University of Glasgow envisage that small Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) bespoke to military operations, could be ‘grown’ in large-scale labs through chemistry, speeding up evolutionary processes and creating bespoke aircraft in weeks, rather than years.

Technology: Stopping Intrusive ‘Rogue Drones’ (Video)
I actually heard about using raptors to take down unwelcome drones. But the rest of these though, interesting.
How do you take down an illegal drone? Here are 4 Insane ways…
– Freeze Lists
A couple of things about this video though… First, notice that once you assign a ‘term’ to a problem, the campaign combatting it intensifies, Case in point, did you know there was a fight against ‘rogue drones’ until we started calling them that? Second, anybody see how this might be another way to pit robots against humans? We will need to be VERY careful about who we deem ‘rogue humans’ (uh oh, is that a ‘term’).

Science & Technology: Drone Gets Struck By Lightning (Video)
SHOCKING! Hahaa…
Okay, maybe sound the horn on that one (womp waaah). But somebody had to say it. And you gotta see this!
At the University of Manchester’s High Voltage Laboratory, we see what happens when a DJI Phantom 3 drone gets hit with an electrical impulse of 1.4MV – basically, a lightning strike. Actually, two Phantom 3 drones. We had a backup.
This moment brought to you by drones, backup drones, and muthaf**king SCIENCE!!
Technology: It’s A Drone, An X-Wing… Nah, It’s A Parrot Swing (Video)
With Parrot Swing, you have the stability of a quadrocopter and the power of a plane!
Parrot Swing is the only mini-drone allowing you to pilot a supersonic plane with surprising ease. It’s also the only plane with autopilot and a vertical take-off and landing mode. With the Parrot Flypad controller, discover ultra-precise control to pilot like a pro. Transform the sky into an unbelievable race track!
Truth. But what’s even doper than the model/drone/toy is the possibilities for real-life. Imagine combining the great speed and efficiency of a plane with the ability to take off and land from small platforms, rather than long runways. Of course, the military would jump on this first. But imagine the search and rescue possibilities. Mobilizing quickly for tough terrain rescues, where planes cannot go but copters cannot be sent quick enough… disaster relief for that matter… Think about unmanned vehicles getting materials in and/or people out of places where the roads are impassible or non-existent.
Nice!
Technology: South Korea Is Almost Ready For Autonomous Robots Called ‘Pibots’ To Fly Their Planes (Video)
“Pibots” have been designed to fly every kind of plane that a human was meant to fly, and they have been tested for most every simulation and situation… except actual cockpit flight in a full-sized aircraft. But South Korean researchers say that is coming soon (in the video report above).
Researchers in South Korea are developing a robotic pilot that could potentially replace humans in the cockpit. Unlike drones and autopilot programs which are configured for specific aircraft, the robots’ humanoid design will allow it to fly any type of plane with no additional sensors.
Just saying. Why does that first Pibot look like a skeleton after the crash? And “because it’s Halloween” is NOT an acceptable answer!
Technology: Drones Deployed Over South Africa Drop Beers Not Bombs (Video)
Not all the news on drone tech nowadays is scary. Remember that UK pizza delivery drone post on here? Well, how about beer… delivered! Hey, it’s what South African concert goers had available. A beer order is placed, a drone is loaded and deployed with beer, the drone flies over the location of the order and delivers the payload via parachute drop… and a crowd cheers. Nice!
‘At the moment it is hand guided, but it will eventually fly on a GPS grid.’
– OppiKoppi TV
According to NY Daily News, the drone already flies delivery by GPS grid. OppiKoppi came up with the concept. Darkwing Aerials took it from concept to prototype. Want to see it work? Here we go (above).
VICE: Israeli Killer Robots (Video)
‘Israel is the world’s biggest exporter of military drones, used around the world for everything from surveillance to precision rocket attacks on speeding cars in remote locales. Israel’s drone program hasn’t stirred as much controversy as its American counterpart, but not because their targeted killings are any less fatal. VICE sent Simon Ostrovsky to a drone testing airfield in Israel to find out what their latest eye-in-the-sky can see.’
Technology: Robocops Expected To Patrol Los Angeles By 2025 (Video)
No kidding. At the last Los Angeles Auto Show, robot drone cars designed to patrol the streets were on display. Nah… they won’t be replacing human cops (not initially… you never know though, right?). And nah… no half-man, half-machine clunky cops in design either… yet. Peep the video though.
