Canibus Drops DJ Premier Diss Record; DJ Premier Responds (Audio/Video)

Not too long ago DJ Premier was being interviewed & was asked a simple question about the most difficult artist he ever had to work with. Primo mentioned he had a minor issue with Canibus but in the interview he didn’t diss Canibus in anyway. Canibus apparently took offense to DJ Premier’s response (which personally I thought was a respectable & noble one) & released a diss track aimed at DJ Premier. Last Friday night I was actually driving listening to DJ Premier’s radio show on Sirius XM radio when Primo responded to Canibus’s diss record not only verbally but also on the 1s & 2s. While over in the U.K. for a recent show, M.O.P. was interviewed about their first time meeting DJ Premier, Fat Joe, & Freddie Foxx aka Bumpy Knuckles for the first time. They discuss how Lil Fame studied DJ Premier heavily before actually meeting him, how Fat Joe’s brand new whip was stolen in Brooklyn, & also discussed an altercation that almost went down the first time they met Freddie Foxx. It’s always good to hear stories like these. DJ Premier’s Beat Rejected By Kanye West For His MBDTF Album

Prior to Kanye West releasing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy it was reported that DJ Premier was supposed to appear on the album for a song called “My Mama’s Boyfriend”. Needless to say Kanye didn’t use the track that Primo submitted probably because it didn’t fit the overall sound of Ye’s album. Kanye changed the direction of the album & even the title a few times. Nevertheless I’m sure a gang of talented emcees can do this Primo track justice. Shout out to DJ Premier’s Blog

Producer Spotlight: MOSS

Moss is a talented producer who is signed to DJ Premier’s Works Of Mart Production team. He’s done a ton of stuff that I was impressed with but I rarely ever saw any videos or interviews of him on the web. The guys at Onsmash caught up with him for this interview to talk about his process & gives a little of his history. He also talks about the mix up with him not getting production credit on Raekwon’s Only Built For Cuban Linx II album. On another note……All my people in Atlanta are gonna look at this video & see that Moss looks like he was separated at birth with our homie Bran from Speakeasy Promo. Maybe its just that wild ass hair…Hahaaa!

REKS – 25th Hour (Prod by DJ Premier) (Video)

I was in MJQ in Atlanta one night & ran into REKS just hanging out with his brother. I could tell he was surprised that I recognized who he was in the crowded spot. Even though MJQ is a great club venue for real music lovers, Reks is still a relatively new artist to some Atlanta hip hop heads. It’s possible that his new album may change his status & visibility with the public considerably. For his third album Reks has enlisted a quality crop of producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, Alchemist, Nottz, Sha Money XL, & Statik Selektah as well as a few other talented beat wizards. Reks also has a short & respectable guest list of emcees on the album such as Lil Fame, Styles P, Freeway, & Termanology. It’s looks like its shaping up to be a quality album. We’ll see come March 8th when the album “R.E.K.S.” is expected to drop. Check the cover tracklisting information & some behind the scenes footage after the jump….
