Chances are if you’ve watched MTV at any point in time you’ve seen the “Pimp My Ride” show hosted by rapper/actor Xzibit or as participants on the show would often refer to him as….”Mr. X To The Z”. The ‘Pimp My Ride’ show would find willing participants with the most busted ass vehicles & then have a team of creative auto mechanics trick it out. Professional DJ & former Masters Of The Mix show finalist DJ Yonny hosts this new internet show that just debuted called “Pimp My Turntables” where they creatively trick out the equipment for professional DJs & turntable enthusiasts. In the very first episode they catch up with international party DJ & Philly legend DJ Jazzy Jeff as they trick out his turntables in such a way that just leaves him speechless.

Just a few days ago on January 21st we would have celebrated the 47th birthday of the legendary Jam Master Jay of Run DMC. Unfortunately the world is unable to celebrate his contributions to hip hop & DJ culture with him in the physical form due to his untimely death, but that doesn’t stop many people like DJ Jazzy Jeff & Señor Kaos from honoring him with this tribute track that I believe was first premiered on DJ Mick Boogie’s Run DMC tribute mixtape.

I’ve been struggling with how we label mixtapes & albums these days especially when running across quality projects like this Back For More album from DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Toronto songstress Ayah. This soulful R&B joint is so tight it feels unfair to label it a “mixtape” in anyway shape or form. It’s basically a free 13 track album that’s better than the majority of products in the marketplace for sale. Key songs I’ve been digging include “Back For More”, “Press Play”, “Notorious“, “One Life feat. Tona”, “Telephone“, & taking us to church with the gospel influenced sound of “Be Right“. I’ve been letting it play in my office several times & I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it. This is quality soul right here. Looking forward to seeing Ayah & the world famous DJ Jazzy Jeff tour just off this project alone…..
