Elzhi Speaks On Being Influenced By Ice Cube, Meeting Eminem & Proof, & The Detroit Hip Hop Scene (Video)
One of my favorite emcees coming out of Detroit was interviewed by the good people over at Hard Knock TV. In this in-depth two part interview interview Elzhi talks about how Ice Cube was the first rapper to make him want to rap after referencing classics like “America’s Most Wanted”, “Kill At Will” & “Death Certificate”. Elzhi also speaks about being a student of the game having studied emcees like Lord Finesse & Rakim before getting detailed about the early Detroit hip hop scene where he first met Proof & Eminem. Check out part two on friday under the hood….

FowL – “LA”
Produced by The Futuristiks, Detroit’s own FowL comes through hard on this banging track, “LA.” FowL (born Saffal Tall) honed his lyrical skills at Michigan State University; along the way catching the eyes/ears of industry heavyweights like Chip Tha Ripper, Wiz Khalifa, and Brandon Washington (CEO of Finally Famous Entertainment) back in the day. FowL continued to make moves; getting on our radar in 2011 (check the post with Alchemist here). We since came to expect much from this guy. Click, listen to “LA,” and know why!

Clear Soul Forces – “Get No Better” (Video)
The young Detroit homies Clear Soul Forces dropped a new video that I wasn’t even aware of until I saw it zip around on twitter via retweets. Especially fueled by actor Idris Elba’s twitter praise of their work. Good to see the brothers still grinding it out for as talented as they are. I had them on the radio show several months back & they basically gassed up their whip & drove to Atlanta for the interview. That’s dedication for that ass. They are definitely one of the motor city’s finest on the rise & should win with that type of grind. This is the first single off their upcoming album “Detroit Revolution(s)” due March 13th & this particular & single was produced by KanKick. The video was Directed by Richard Taylor.
DJ Jaycee – Eargasm 9 Classics (Mixtape)
One of the illest DJs in Atlanta, by way of Detroit, DJ Jaycee delivers a new edition to his Eargasms mixtape series with this special mix dedicated to the classic joints. I know some of you maybe thinking, “Not another classics mixtape”, but hold on…waiiiit up. There truly is a blatant difference when Jaycee puts these joints together as compared to your average dj who just got serato & a laptop full of music. Sharp transistions, scratches, some on the fly remixing of sorts using only the two turntables, Blends, & some dope diggin’ with the selections as to not flood the project with too many joints you may already be familiar with is Jaycee’s recipe. THIS is how a true classics mixtape should be done. Check out the complete tracklisting below, but i’d advise you to just turn it up & trust your ears like I trust his…….

Black Milk x Jack White – ‘Brain’/’Royal Mega’
Motor city representatives Jack White of The White Stripes and Black Milk have teamed up to drop a 7′ of rock, funk, and hip hop fusion to be released as the first project from Jack White’s Third Man Records.
Black Milk says this of the collab on his website:
My first reaction was one of shock that an artist like him, who most people would categorize as a rock star, would want to work with an independent hip-hop artist. My second reaction was surprise that he even knew I existed, even though we’re from the same city. Of course, my response was “Hell yeah! When and where do I need to be to make this happen?†A few back and forth emails led to my band (keyboardist AB; drummer Daru Jones; and bassist Malik Hunter) and I taking a trip to Nashville to record at Jack’s home studio.
You can cop the songs from iTunes and the vinyl Here

Producer Spotlight: 14KT
The Detroit area is killing it with these all of these highly talented producers & emcees. Check out this interview with 14KT who, to the mainstream masses, is one of the Detroit area’s best kept secrets on the boards. His fortunes are changing in terms of the familiarity lane as was also the winner of the Red Bull Big Tune producer battle. In addition 14KT produced this new banger called ‘Sweet Tee Ish’ featuring Boog Brown that we’ve been digging over here where he flips an old school Sweet Tee record. Watch the rest of the interview where he talks about growing up in nearby Ypsilanti Michigan (outside of Detroit), his group Athletic Mic League, & he also shows the fans how he does it.
Imported From Detroit: Eminem’s Chrysler 200 Super Bowl Ad (Video)
Dope advertisement showing love to Detroit & Eminem is leading the way in it. Great job! FTW! This was the second advertisement that Eminem was involved with during the Super Bowl with the first that aired being for Brisk Iced Tea. If you really pay attention to what’s said in that particular ad you’ll see that Eminem is not just going to take any ad for a check unlike some rappers out today, but the word is Brisk paid him allegedly $1 Million dollars that was just to lend his voice for the claymation character. I respect the fact that Em is very choosy in terms of his ad choices. He even uses Brisk’s ad time to let YOU know why he doesn’t do commercials. Smart
