Consequence – “Killer Instinct” (It Ain’t Hard To Tell Freestyle)

It appears Consequence may have decided to capitalize on the recent success of Nas’s VH1 Behind The Music special & hop on Nas’s classic instrumental for “It Ain’t Hard To Tell”. It’s crazy because I remember when a few magazine’s back in the day were making statements that Consequence was that next dude to reach Nas’s status. The skills never left the Cons but everything else is the just the ebb & flows of the music ‘business’. Flash forward to 2012 & it’s obvious Consequence may not be on Nas’s level in the public eye but this other kid from Queens skills haven’t left him for fans who still enjoy lyrics & clever wordplay.

Illadeph meets QB in this freestyle featuring Rahzel on the beat, with Black Thought, Consequence and Phife Dawg on the mics. As usual, Rahzel kills the beatbox while Ali Shaheed Muhammed and Questlove chill and groove to the beat. Would’ve been nice to hear what Q-Tip had to say, though. Guess time was up on Lorna’s Corner.

This is pretty dope joint that will be featured on Consequence’s upcoming ‘Movies On Demand 3’ mixtape that will drop in the coming days. I like the lineup of emcees he’s chosen to get down with on this track in Elzhi, Rapper Big Pooh. Not familiar with Tannie J, but her contribution makes the song dope. This track was also produced by The Produce Section who also crafted a few dope bangers for Atlanta based emcee BIGREC.

I’m really digging this joint right here….Despite his problems with his former peeps over there at G.O.O.D. Music, Consequence has been dropping some good material. It’s a shame they couldn’t work out all of their issues. At least its good to see Kid Cudi & Consequence patched up their previous differences. Consequence is set to drop more joints like this on his Movies On Demand 3 coming soon….
