Cover Story: Common And Kanye Part Ways Musically, And It’s All ‘GOOD’ (Video)
Well, we just posted on Busta Rhymes’ leaving Cash Money. Now, there’s another shift in the Hip-Hop cosmos…G.O.O.D. Music bids adieu to Chi-Town’s Common. Similarly, the rap titans (Kanye West and Common) have apparently parted on good terms; no animosity in Common’s commentary about the subject.
…‘Ye is my brother. Point-blank, business-wise, it wasn’t like…‘Ye wasn’t really like ‘Okay, let’s go do this. Let’s go do this album.’ It was like, ‘I’m ’bout to go do this album, ‘Ye. We friends, but if you ain’t really trying to…but if we ain’t gonna create together, it’s all good. We still brothers.’ I think his focus was somewhere else…Marriage, life, good places…I cherish our friendship more than music. I’m grateful for the music we did…
– Common
Good scoop by HipHop DX. Check out the RapFix interview clip above. Good seeing brothers wish the best to each other; whether together or on their own. Part of being grown.

Common – “Diamonds” featuring Big Sean (Prod. By No I.D.)
What it is is G.O.O.D. Music. A collab between Common and Big Sean called “Diamonds” seems right. A rare gem to be admired worldwide. A good look – and sound – though “Nobody’s Smiling” … the LP is dropping July 22, 2014.
Common Speaks On Chicago Today (Chi-Raq), Getting Chi-Town Back And More (Video)

Common – “Kingdom†featuring Vince Staples (Prod. By No ID) [Video]
Common’s single “Kingdom†(featuring Vince Staples) is quality music. So, how much better can it get than to follow its release with a strong visual … movie-level … with the full treatment directed by Hype Williams?! Not important now. It’s already done. Well done! Check it out above.
Common – “Kingdom” featuring Vince Staples
You know the time is always right for a Common release. Well, get ready to check your watch. It’s about that time. The Chi-raq rapper attacks the track on this “Kingdom” jawn featuring Vince Staples. A prelude leak off “Nobody’s Smiling” (The Album) dropping soon.

Common Tells CNN About His Nonprofit To Aid Chicago’s Youth (Video)
No secret that Common loves Chicago, the kids, and esp. Chicago’s kids. Even the city’s mayor knows (watch the clip above).
Grammy-winning rap artist Common tells CNN’s Brooke Baldwin about his non-profit foundation, benefiting Chicago’s youth.
Hmm… says he’s no politician… but a well-known figure, willing to serve and campaigning for a cause (see the links to earlier posts below) rather than for himself… we could do worse. Salute, Common!
‘WAR’ IN CHI-RAQ | CHI-RAQ (DOCUMENTARY ON VIOLENCE IN CHICAGO)
Common – “The Ladder”
Played this new Common joint on my radio show last Saturday night. It’s from the ‘Catch The Throne’ mixtape that the people associated with the television series ‘Game Of Thrones’ put together. I personally haven’t watched the television show at all, but the quotes that Common used for “The Ladder” are very interesting in so many ways.

Common Speaks On His Upcoming Album ‘Nobody’s Smiling’ Produced By NO I.D. (Video)
Revolt TV talks to Common (kinda got him looking like ‘The Godfather’ off the movie in the clip above, right?) about his forthcoming project, “Nobody’s Smiling.” What started as an EP on the violence in Chicago just kept growing as he and the project’s sole producer NO I.D. kept making and adding songs, like that “War” we just posted here. The Chi-Town homies look to stop the violence in Chi-raq. Mission-based music. Very refreshing!

Yancey Boys – “Quicksand” feat. Common x Dezi Paige (Prod. By J Dilla) [Video]
Another hot one (and video) from the Yancey Boys’ LP “Sunset Blvd”… entitled “Quicksand” (featuring Common and Dezi Paige). Illa J and Frank Nitt keeping the J Dilla vibe alive by blessing yet another of his tracks.
Yancey Boys – “Quicksand” feat. Common x Dezi Paige
“Sunset Blvd” is the new Delicious Vinyl from Yancey Boys – John “Illa J†Yancey (brother of the late great James “J Dilla” Yancey) and Frank Nitt). All productions on the “Sunset Blvd” LP originate from ‘The Lost Scrolls’ (a collection of beats J Dilla left behind). This “Quicksand†single off the LP features Common and some cool cooing from Dezi Paige.
“…this isn’t a nostalgia trip: Dilla’s beats were so future-forward that they’re right on time in 2013, and we’ve assembled the best artists possible to represent that.”
– Frank Nitt
