Black Thought Speaks On Acting Career, Lifestyle Changes, & Working On A Blues Album (Video)
It’s rather rare to catch Black Thought aka Mr. Tariq Trotter doing solo interviews. The talented Mr. Trotter is visually known as the lyrical frontman for the Legendary Roots Crew but compared to Questlove’s omnipresence in the media you would almost assume Tariq was nothing short of a hermit. It’s not everyday you get some interviews where he speaks on upcoming solo projects & what’s going on with his life. Check out the interview with Uber Urban as they catch up with Tariq as he speaks on doing a hip hop blues album, lifestyle changes, & more.

R&B/Soul: Joy Denalane feat. Bilal – “Should Have Never” (Jake One Remix)
I’ve been up on Germany’s Joy Denalane for a few years now, but new songs from her don’t pop up that often from the multilingual soul singer since the 2006 release of her “Born & Raised” project. It was her standout track “Change” featuring Lupe Fiasco that really caught my attention coincidentally after I had returned back to Atlanta from a trip visiting with friends in Germany. Her solo appearances & collaborations are still rare releases but she still pops up every now & then on joints with fellow R&B artists like Dwele & Bilal as well as popping up on a few rap artists & producer based projects like on Virginia’s NOTTZ song “How Long Will It Last” from his “You Need This Music” album two years ago.  So with her relative absence in releasing any new material for a few years it was surprise to see OKP premier this new remix from Seattle based producer Jake One. Joy Denalane is set to drop a brand new project on April 3rd entitled “Maureen” which apparently has a much deeper significance other than it just being her middle name. It’s makes even more sense considering the early reports that the album has a dark bluesy & soulful edge to it that is quite difficult to fully categorize. Looking forward to some more goodness with this….We’ve waited long enough

President Barack Obama Sings ‘Sweet Home Chicago’ During Blues Night at The White House (Video)
You can see it in President Obama’s facial expression that when he gets the urge to sing in public he just wants to let loose but restrains himself. First doing it up with Al Green at the Apollo & now singing “Sweet Home Chicago” with Blues legends like B.B. King at the White House….This is hilarious!

R.I.P. – Etta James [1938-2012]
“Etta James, the feisty & legendary R&B singer whose raw, passionate vocals made the love ballad “At Last” an enduring anthem, has died. James suffered from dementia, kidney problems and leukemia.”
