Common lives at a level of cool to which we should all aspire: Supreme rhyme skills, ladies on his arm and in his past with looks that kill (in or out of heels), showing love & respect to all and getting it back… and now the coolest thing… his new album and promo push timed in such a way to help his people and country. “Black America Again” is conscious music with that good head nod appeal. His promotional interviews with have your head nodding in approval, too.

Common’s been pushing “Black America Again” – his timely released socially ‘woke’ LP that just came out. Common can’t do it any other way than big; evidenced by this short film… not video, but short film… for the title track; executive produced by Ava DuVernay and directed by “Selma” cinematographer Bradford Young. And yeah, you see the Stevie Wonder feature (in other words, BIG)!

With the most unpalatable dose of truths delivered in a Hip-Hop suspension. Damn. Just as the start of the video forces us to relive the killing of Alton Sterling and opens the wound, Common drops in a cauterizing truth… that we have to stop killing each other, too. THEN through more lyricism, audio samples from Black noteworthies, and that driving beat, Common continues the uncomfortable conversation and intervention.
Moving. Powerful. Like Hip-Hop is supposed to be. A Golden Era vet utilizing rap as the voice of the culture it was meant to be.
