Hit the streets of Boston with the city’s own legendary Big Shug in his slick new video for “Stay The Course,†a soulful and contemplative burner off his new LP, The Diamond Report.
Featuring direction from Ill Mannered Films (Redman, Cypress Hill), the video centers on the Gang Starr Foundation member and, more importantly, his rhymes. While there are some clever edits and additional touches that bring life to the visuals, they mostly serve to send home the message in Shug’s words.
He brings wisdom and positivity with his bars that essentially advise the listener to learn from life’s obstacles and just keep it moving forward. There’s an authentic and personable level of clarity to the entire track that makes Shug’s lyrics resonate that much more. Plus, it’s all backed by a great instrumental produced by Elevated Music, who’s joined on The Diamond Report by DJ Premier, Lil Fame, Reel Drama and Kid Called Quest, among others.

“Thunder Slap” is a voltron style collaboration that brings together four underground Hip-Hop institutions in Army of the Pharoahs, EMS, Gangstarr and Czarface as Celph Titled, M-Dot, Big Shug and Esoteric amalgamate with upcoming artist DZ The Unknown for this whiplash inducing slapper… You might not of heard the name DZ The Unknown before but after you hear this tune you won’t be forgetting it anytime soon, “Thunder Slap” is produced by C-Lance [Vinnie Paz, Apathy, Action Bronson].
And you are right, DZ The Unknown – coming straight out of North Battleford, Saskatchewan (Canada). A’ight. I didn’t know before. But now I know. And I will NOT slip or sleep again!! You are on my radar.

RIP to Keith Elam aka GURU. And respek on the name Avrex and on the names of the Gangstarr Foundation fellows that stepped up to make this tribute happen. One time for the late great. Salute!
Avrex features his Gangstarr affiliates founding members Guru and Big Shug on a classic remix. He also gets help from his cousin KrumbSnatcha in this tribute to the late great Guru.The video has unreleased person family photos never seen before by the public until now! Avrex puts the track listing from the classic Gangstarr album “Moment of Truth” in his entire verse. This is a clever and witty way to pay homage to the legendary group Gangstarr. The intro consists of a shoutout from Guru’s nephew Justin Ruffin Elam. Production credits from Gambit Ent. (Germany). The song will be featured on Avrex’s upcoming album “Growth” set to release this spring.
