Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium Opens College Football With Alabama Vs. Florida State (Video)

In every good way, it was a great kickoff for the new home to Atlanta football, Mercedes-Benz Stadium… and a bit ‘greater’ if you are a Crimson Tide fan. A good look on TV and it looked like an epic event was being enjoyed by those fortunate enough to be at the FSU vs. UA game live. Very unfortunate late game injury to FSU Seminole quarterback Francois though.

The Do Over is Kicking it Back in Atlanta [ATL Event]

One thing we enjoy in Atlanta, GA is a good time. So when you combine good music, adult beverages, an international traveling party, and a world renown footwear brand you have one heck of a kick back. On July 9th that’s what we have when the Do Over party arrives back in Atlanta powered by Adidas and Miller Lite to take over the Sound Table on Edgewood. This day party wont be confined to just the sound table it is an official block party so prepare to dance in the streets of Atlanta while sipping come cold brew (If that is your choice of course). All you have to do in RSVP for entry and you are in the game. You know they will have a killer lineup of DJ’s thats a prerequisite for all Do Over events. They have not released that information yet but with the many great DJ’s in Atlanta and they always have surprise guests so no need to worry. If you have been tuned into the Beatz & Lyrics Show on a weekly basis then you have heard the track Ski Mask Way by Rah Digga & Lyric Jones. The Beatz & Lyrics show that airs every Monday night 8pm Est 5pm PST on the Native Ryhmes Channel on Dash Radio. Okay shameless plug out of the way now lets get to this exclusive interview we had with these two Titans on the microphone. ArtbyOdell was at 529 in East Atlanta for the kickoff date of the Ski Mask Way tour. Lyric Jones & Rah Digga discuss how their collaboration came about and what new music they have in store. There is even a brief discussion on 2nd amendment gun rights as well. Let me apologize in advance for the abrupt end to the video, some technical difficulties but plenty of gems in this video, enjoy!

BLIZM – “Salt & Pepper” Ft. Jebron [Video]

I used to tease my father & uncles about their gray hairs when I was younger. My pops would let me know that it’s a blessing to get up in age and have some salt & pepper going on. Looks like BLIZM has embraced that fact of being a little older and wiser rather than trying to act like someone 20 years his age. If you reside in Atlanta like myself you probably recognize BLIZM for his K-100 online station. He makes sure that K-100 is at live events on a constant basis. He has put the same effort into his music that he does his radio station. “Salt & Pepper” is a nice soulful Hip Hop groove with Jebron singing the hook! Well remember how I stated I once teased my father about gray hairs I now celebrate having some Salt & Pepper in my beard. So I got some of this wisdom on deck when you see me and BLIZM has some as well.

Definition Of A Down A** Chick: Miko Grimes (Video)

Full disclosure: I really did not know who Miko Grimes was. Not important. Her eventual husband did, and while we might infer that things weren’t always heavenly, hearing her talk about how she rides for him… man… intense! Might even say HOT. Something very ’90s Hip-Hop about this Gangsta Chick. Gotta admit that I like it. Even though I know she’s a handful.
Okay, two handfuls (wink). Do you SEEEEE that top? Fitting her where she’s so gifted. Wowzers!
Suffice it to say, Miko Grimes is the business. But she is well-informed and about her business, so you really gotta hope her man (husband, Brent Grimes, pro ball player) stays on point. Miko’s outspoken on some of everything: from the treatment of NFL players, shutting down groupies and hangers-on, and much more (as shown in the sit-down vid above).
Regarding career ups & downs for her former Falcon, then former Dolphin, hubby Brent, Miko gives her side of those goings down, too. Again I say WOW. Of course, I know Miko would absolutely DESTROY me (I’d fall too hard and stay down). But ohhhh, what a way to go!

Donald Glover. Not sure whether he will show more Childish or Gambino in his new FX series, “Atlanta” (premiering September 6, 2016). But he certainly is mobbing us with a gang of mini-trailers for it. Six of them. Start with the first above, and continue with the rest after the jump.
Glover’s character in the show is Earnest, aka Earn Marks. The story opens with his return to Atlanta and his discovering that his cousin is now the city’s most popular new rapper.

This is a trailer you have to feel, more so than understand, to get… really get. Seems like it might be a departure from his gig on “Community” (the sitcom from NBC a while back).
It’s Atlanta. FX’s new original series starring Donald Glover begins this September. Starring and created by Donald Glover, Atlanta revolves around two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene whose opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy.
Yep, Donald Glover might well bring some of that Childish Gambino vibe to the TV screen.

Joi performs new Music at Atlanta Jazz Festival (Video)

The 39th annual Atlanta Jazz Festival kicked off during Memorial Day weekend (May 27th-29th) at historic Piedmont Park. Three days of great music, food and fun in the sun in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. The headliner for Friday night was Joi Gilliam who got the festival off to a great start. Entering the stage with a sequence red dress with one leg out accompanied by beautiful headgear and feathered wings. You immediately knew that you were in for a show. Thanking the crowd for supporting her music career that now spans over 20 years. She did songs from her previous albums like Sunshine & the Rain, Fatal Lovesick Journey all the while backed by drummer Lil John Roberts and a full live band.
Towards the end of her set Joi gave the crowd a treat by performing a new song off the upcoming “Rebekkah Holylove is her name” album. The track is called “On my way to Berlin” and it got a great response from the huge crowd gathered that night. Enjoy footage from her performance including the unreleased “On my way to Berlin” track. Connect with Joi CLICK HERE TO VISIT HER WEBSITE

Art & Music: The “787 Graffiti Ball” Visually Captured By Atlanta’s ‘Hometown Heroes’ (Video)

One thing about Atlanta is the range of events that happen here. Whether it is a Hip Hop Show, EDM or the Ballet & Symphony. Or it could be a Falcons, Hawks, Braves game or NASCAR event. Besides those well known events you have cool niche events like BonFire ATL, Elevated ATL and 787 Graffiti Ball. The 787 Graffiti Ball recently went down here in Atlanta at 787 Windsor St. An event where the first 250 people who RSVP’d got a free spray can for the event.
What is Graffiti Ball ? Well it is a night dedicated to the art of Scribbling, Scratching, and Defacing. Not only is it a chance for the everyday person to do some graffiti without having to look over their shoulders for cops. Some of the biggest and emerging aerosol artists are brought together ranging from NYC, Miami, and of course here in Atlanta. One of the well known ATL artists represented was DR.
