Word to the wise, my ‘digger’… Don’t sleep on these Yasiin Gaye releases. RIAA (you know, the Grammy folks) has been having the nice releases taken down due to ‘copyright violations.’ But if you are on top of things you’ll have scooped up hot ones (for FREE) like this before anyone could take them down anyway, right? Boooo… RIAA. Could call it hate. Not beef though.

As we approach the one year anniversary of 2011′s award winning “Fela Soul” release, we’re pleased to give you a sampling from Amerigo Gazaway’s upcoming mashup project, “Bizarre Tribe: A Quest to The Pharcyde†(due out September 13, 2012). Utilizing the original Jazz, Soul and Funk recordings sampled throughout A Tribe Called Quest’s extensive catalog, Gazaway recreates classic productions – pairing his reinterpreted instrumentals with select vocals from West Coast “golden era†favorites, The Pharcyde.

More than just a clever title, Fela Soul is an 8-track, 33 minute journey into the world of afrobeat rhythms, funky horn riffs, and classic hip-hop gems. Using dozens of hand-picked samples from the Nigerian instrumentalist and political figure Fela Kuti, and 8 carefully-chosen acapellas from the Native Tongue rap trio De La Soul, Amerigo seamlessly intertwines the two into something completely new and original.
