Esperanza Spalding feat. Algebra Blessett – “Black Gold” (Video)
If you need a little uplifting in the mist of your daily trials, this joint “Black Gold” by the beautiful, regal, talented virtuoso jazz bassist/singer Esperanza Spalding featuring the equally beautiful and talented Atlanta native soul singer Algebra Blessett will provide that. The video is awesome in depicting a father taking the time to teach his sons about their proud African heritage then taking them to a local block party to enjoy some good tunes. As corny as it may seem to some, we need more positive songs and images for the youth to see and digest. Esperanza Spalding’s new album Radio Music Society releases March 20th, be sure to cop that when it drops….

R&B/Soul: Algebra – ‘I Ain’t No Joke’ (Rakim Cover)
It’s not often an R&B/Soul artist can do a cover of a classic hip hop record although hip hop artists have sampled or interpolated R&B for years. Atlanta’s Algebra Blessett does a very good job with Rakim’s classic. She didn’t leave out the soul in her remake…..maybe she needs to redo Eric B & Rakim’s ‘I Know You Got Soul’ as well because she damn sure does. Yesterday Algebra taped an episode of the Monique Show with soul artist Anthony David with whom she recorded a quality song called ‘4evermore’ which was produced by the homie DJ Kemit.
