The Roots – “Life, Love, & Loot”
Inspired by the Captain Morgan commercial campaign of “Life, Love, & Loot”, Philly’s finest The Roots flipped the musical theme of the liquor brand’s primary song into a dope ass joint with a great classic rock feel. Black Thought aka Tariq Trotter kills this joint on the vocals so well it sounds like he may have outdid Lenny Kravitz himself at his own signature vocal style. The song won’t appear on the The Roots upcoming album “undun” due December 6th, but damn this joint is dope even if for a commercial campaign. Check out the Spin Magazine article with Questlove regarding the project & listen to the track below. Some Behind The Scenes video after the jump…. Glasses Up!

Homeboy Sandman – ‘I Knew’
Homeboy Sandman dropped some new heat over the web a few days ago & I’ve been feeling this joint since I’ve heard it. It made me go into a brief Homeboy Sandman set on my ipod for a while. During the A3C festival last year I was telling him he needs to get up on twitter, but Sand explained he wasn’t a fan of social media like twitter per se. True to his word he set up a twitter page to release this joint & then deleted the twitter page right afterwards. Apparently this is Homeboy Sandman’s attempt to reach out to Questlove of The Roots in a bid to appear on the Jimmy Fallon show as a musical guest. Hopefully Questlove makes that happen because Homeboy Sandman is one of the most talented & creative new cats coming up in my opinion.

H.I.S.D. “Rockin” aka “Space Up” Video (Live)
These guys have been in my playlist for a few years now. Group of Mc’s from Houston, Tx. Their first two projects “The District” and “Summer Sessions” are in credible pieces of work. The producers King Coz are the most slept on in music in my opinion. A lot of hip hop notables like Questlove and Bun B have given them the nod. There is a lot of material out there from these guys at Peace Uv Mine Entertainment so check em out!

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Has An ‘Odd Future’ (Video)
At times when I watch late night television there will be artists that I may not entirely be familiar with. Most of the time the artists don’t leave any sort of impression. Last night on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon show his musical guests were the Los Angeles based group ‘Odd Future’ or OFWGKTA which stands for ‘Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’. Ok. I can’t front & say I’m familiar with this band although I’ve heard Questlove of the Roots endorse them at some point, but I have to admit their performance last night made an impression on me. I don’t ride bandwagons but I’d like to see & hear more from this group to see if they are the real deal for the long haul. At least they left a great first impression with their live performance. Â More background video on this group after the jump…..
