Apollo Brown – ‘Heirlooms’ feat. Has-Lo
This joint is damn near perfect with the exception of it being too short. I must have played it about 5X in a row. The ‘Heirlooms’ joint is from Apollo Brown’s instrumental album appropriately titled ‘Clouds’. I’m assuming he named it that because when you listen to his aural soundscapes you get that elevated feeling from his beats. Emcee ‘Has-Lo’ took the instrumental & did it justice vocally & lyrically. Niiiice

Khalid Salaam – “Plenty Of Fish” feat. Boog Brown
Ill poetic with the sultry talk! A+ lust-love-life lyricals from Khalid Salaam and feature emcee Boog Brown on this jawn! All about the Black love. Plus, I have always loved me some Boog Brown.
Khalid Salaam drops “Plenty Of Fish” from the new “Barehand Fisherman” album. The song was produced by himself and features Detroit’s own, Boog Brown, whom you may be familiar with from her Mellow Music debut “Brown Study” album produced entirely by Apollo Brown, as well as her other phenomenal projects to follow. This was a beautiful pairing of tones and clever wording in which both compliment the other in the manner that opposites should.

Planet Asia – “God Degree” (Prod. By 38 Spesh) [Video]
History repeats what you refuse to learn about.
Hmm… I’m asking: Has anybody spit positivity barz over a 38 Spesh beat? Of course, the beat is a banger (I knew that going in) and the lyrics are top-notch (I knew that, too, because Planet Asia). But the message! Ill and dope. The problem and the solution. At the same damn time!!
Planet Asia has recorded a number of albums with single producers (or production teams) throughout his prolific career. He has dropped classic material with DJ Muggs, Apollo Brown, Gensu Dean, DJ Concept, and of course his boys DirtyDiggs. However, according to King Medallions himself, his upcoming 38 Spesh-produced album “Trust The Chain” might be his best single-producer album yet.
As for Spesh, the rapper/producer/entrepreneur really flexed his beatmaking skills in 2019, helming full albums for Che Noir, Flee Lord, Elcamino, Black Geez, and more. He’s determined to establish his names with the greats by outworking the comp.
The pairing of PA’s funky linguistics and Spesh’s soul loops is a match made in Hip-Hop heaven. These songs were meant to be. To further bolster the flavor on this fly affair Rasheed Chappell, The Musalini, Fred The Godson, and Elcamino each pitch in a drum. Truuust!

M-Dot – “The Atonement” (Prod. By Pete Rock)
Shout out to Revalation (of EMS) again. Letting me know that his bredren got the biggest get yet: Pete Rock production! Hellooooo! Rev linked this track to me, and now I share it with you. And I started penning this post as I hit play (because I knew it was gonna be flames)!
As M-Dot tells it, he and the legendary producer met in 2017 when they were on the same bill for a show in Switzerland. The two showed mutual admiration for their talents and kept in touch ever since, eventually leading to their making music together.
The first result of that work is “The Atonement,†a bars-first, punishing track that demonstrates M-Dot’s love for the art of rhyming. He flexes some crazy patterns and internal rhymes atop Pete’s fittingly chilling instrumental, leaving us hoping that this is the only the first of many collaborations we hear from them this year.
In addition to Pete Rock, egO anD The eneMy 2: A Dissolute Paradise boasts production and guest appearances from the likes of Erick Sermon, Apollo Brown, !llmind, M-Phazes, Method Man, Willie The Kid, Vast Aire, and more.
