The Game – “Bigger Than Me”

8gFOc0s

So, we’ve been posting on the 2014 XXL Freshmen… because it’s good stuff. Everybody ain’t gotta agree. Some can even take shots. But none like the Game. Check out the venom spit on this diss track – “Bigger Than Me.” Actually seems like a broad shot at the whole lot of relative Hip-Hop newcomers. Like a battle invitation to whoever want it.

“Fuck all these p*ssies. Gimme any name to call out!”

GAME – BIGGER THAN ME

Truez – “Sarcasm” (Prod. By Hennessy Music Group) [Video]

Augusta (Georgia) has put some significant marks on American music’s timeline. Remember James Brown? How about Pastor Troy? A solid argument can be made that both have influence in Hip-Hop history specifically. How about Truez? From Augusta (by way of Newark, New Jersey); heard of him yet? Well, whether you have or not, I got a little something in the inbox that compelled me to share it. Familiar enough to call Hip-Hop; but not so much so that it could be called the ‘same old, same old’… So, watch/listen above. Decide for yourself if Truez (The Realest U Ever Slept On) might warrant a tic on the Hip-Hop timeline. As for me, I have already decided: Hand me that marker…

Politics: Iceland Overthrows It’s Government & Jails Bankers (Video)

The movie above – “Pots, Pans and Other Solutions” – documents power-to-the-people in action in real life. The PEOPLE, not their so-called representatives and institutions, have taken control of their government and collective destiny. Hell, the reps were in the way… and the bankers responsible for financial wrongdoing and damaging the economy… got put away!

Icelanders forced their entire government to resign after a banking fraud scandal, overthrowing the ruling party and creating a citizen’s group tasked with writing a new constitution that offered a solution to prevent corporate greed from destroying the country. The constitution of Iceland was scrapped and is being rewritten by private citizens; using a crowd-sourcing technique via social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter. These events have been going on since 2008, yet there’s been no word from the U.S. mainstream media about any of them.

Black Woman Disrespects A Black Man & White Girlfriend in Harlem Barbershop. What Would YOU Do? (Video)

I enjoy these ‘candid camera-type’ of social experiments that ABC News reporter John Quinones does in his “What Would You Do?” series that usually airs on Friday nights.   This episode is particularly interesting as they head to a Harlem barbershop with a large black clientele.  Things get interesting when a black female disrespects a black man & his white girlfriend.  Personally I’ve dated every race there is & wouldn’t tolerate anyone disrespecting my girlfriend or wife no matter what her race is. In fact, many of my family members are also involved in interracial relationships which reflects how much America as a whole is changing.  Many great points were made in this video by the people who stood up including the brother in the video who made a excellent point that interracial relationships are not destroying the black community. It’s drugs & poverty, but we can’t combat that with our own ignorance, hatred, & bigotry. African-Americans should know better than anyone else not to discriminate on anyone as much as we have been for many years. There’s so many great quotes in this segment it’s amazing. Ultimately, the most important thing about ANY relationship is “LOVE”.

VICE: Ground Zero – Mali (Video)

This is the story of the Battle for Gao, the biggest city in Northern Mali. The French used to rule the region. They left. Militant extremist factions like Al Qaeda moved in… banned music and booze and basically anything they call “sin” and instituted HARSH punishments for violators and martial law. It’s Jihad on steroids on steroids. It’s just wrong. The Malian-French alliance forces are trying to stop this; but can they? VICE went over to give us an up close look… and some answers.

It’s basically the first legitimate combat footage to come out of the war there…[I]nsurgents came to us: they slipped into Gao overnight on small boats and used suicide bombers to blast their way into government buildings. The French left the fighting to the Malian army for most of the day as a test of their combat abilities. Malian soldiers, while very brave, are almost completely untrained and had great difficulty fighting less than a dozen jihadists, some of whom were children. They fired wild bursts of automatic fire everywhere, destroying the city center. The Malians soon ran out of ammunition and had to wait for the French to show up and save the day.

New Drug Can Reportedly Kill Seven Cancers With One Method (Video)

Breast cancer, ovary cancer, colon cancer, bladder cancer, brain cancer, liver cancer, prostate cancer… CURED! How’s that for a headline? Well, Irving Weissman’s team at Stanford Medical School is seeing success on that front in the early testing stages (with mice) of a cancer vaccine that is more method than med. In a nutshell, cancer cells cloak themselves from antibodies that would kill them with a “do not eat me” protein marker (researchers call it CD47). Weissman’s research is testing a cure strategy that customizes antibodies to stick to and turn off those markers. Then the body’s immune system can target and destroy the cancerous cells.

Technology: So, Who Ordered the Pizza? Your Delivery Drone Is Here (Video)

Actually saw this coming…sort of. We posted on drones doing everything from destroying dug-in dissidents to delivering pizzas here. And here it is: Drone pizza delivery by Dominos DomiCopter.

A spokesman for the Michigan-based Domino’s Pizza confirmed that a franchise in the United Kingdom posted video of the unmanned ‘DomiCopter’ actually delivering two pizzas in the company’s signature Heatwave bags. The digital media company T and Biscuits partnered with drone firm AeroSight to bring the concept to life. But don’t expect two piping hot pizzas to be delivered to your door via drone anytime soon. The service is illegal under U.S. law. Federal Aviation Administration rules ban unmanned aircraft like drones from being used for commercial purposes. A DomiCopter in the United Kingdom seems just as unlikely.

50 Cent: Music Is My Sport (Video)

‘Boxing is very similar to rap. It’s the instincts. It’s the training. It’s the discipline that’s involved with it; the absolute focus that’s necessary to win. You have to go out there, stay focused, and absolutely destroy.’ – 50 Cent

Tommy Lee Jones and Matthew Fox Seek Justice in Post-World War II Japan In “Emperor” (Movie Trailer)

War being an ultimate evil, carried out by loyalists who kill and destroy on a massive scale, how can we hope to bring ‘war criminals’ to justice – to bring closure to the war and ensure justice and peace for both sides? Can we call an enemy combatant a criminal who was doing the same thing our warriors and officers were doing just because we won? Big dilemma.

As the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, General Douglas MacArthur (played by Tommy Lee Jones) charges General Bonner Fellers (played by Matthew Fox) with the task of deciding if Emperor Hirohito will be hanged as a war criminal. Influencing Fellers’ ruling is his quest to find Aya, an exchange student he met years earlier in the U.S.

“Emperor” tells a portion of the story of post-war justice in Japan (with a love story sort of mixed in, of course). Bold (and secret) moves that won the peace in that time are shared and explored. But more pressing than the measures taken, consider a couple of the issues/questions faced at the time:

  1. Emperor Hirohito was considered a god to many in Japan. How do you bring a god to man’s ‘justice’?
  2. Emperor Hirohito being a spiritual leader, not a figure wielding much political or war-making power, may have been no more than a figurehead for government and military officials to use to rally troops. Can we find justice in sentencing a figurehead to death?

A spiritual figure of a people put to death for ‘crimes’ per the judgement of those who had the power to do so. Why does that sound familiar? Argh! I know this one… hair like wool… feet like bronze… Jesus why can’t I remember?

Well, I’ll leave it there. Interesting story. Looks like this could be a good movie. Tommy Lee Jones movies often are.

Comedy: Love & Hip Hop Atlanta Parody (Video)

This is the most I’ve watched of that minstrel television show Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. I just flat out refuse to watch that garbage show, but I have to agree with The Roots’ Questlove who mentioned via his twitter page that it’s safe to assume this comedic spoof is what the show is really all about. Check out this comedic spoof of the TV show Love & Hip Hop Atlanta starring Miguel Nunez, Verne “Mini Me” Troyer, Lunell, Essence Atkins, Buck Wild, Reginald “Bra Man” Ballard & many more directed by Devin Hampton.

Technology: Your Passwords Can No Longer Protect You!

You know how online banking, career, gaming, and other accounts now press you to create ‘unique’ user names and ‘strong’ passwords? Okay, see the guy above? He’s Mat Honan. He protected all his online accounts using the strongest such measures; and he declares that that so-called ‘protection’… was an illusion. In his words:

This summer, hackers destroyed my entire digital life in the span of an hour. My Apple, Twitter, and Gmail passwords were all robust—seven, 10, and 19 characters, respectively, all alphanumeric, some with symbols thrown in as well—but the three accounts were linked, so once the hackers had conned their way into one, they had them all.

– Mat Honan

Since suffering at the hands of hackers (who, it turns out, just wanted to hijack his plumb of a Twitter handle @Mat), Mat devoted himself ‘to researching the world of online security…[and what he found] is utterly terrifying.’  In a very thorough write-up, Mat explores the problems… challenges… futility of trying to fully secure accounts and systems using passwords: Hackers using code and algorithms to successfully guess passwords to savvy evil-doers using new school cons to trick authorized personnel into giving up the goods.  Walking readers through it all, Mat comes to a chilling conclusion. We are dangerously exposed, and relying on current data security methods, relatively defenseless against those who want to access and do major damage to us using our data. Mat succinctly sums the security situation coldly:

The age of the password is over. We just haven’t realized it yet.

So, what is the way forward? Well, we have to move away from relying on passwords that can be cracked or single elements of personal data that can be stolen – like key cards, or even fingerprints. The problem of fending off increasingly more sophisticated hack attacks is complex. Accordingly, the new countermeasures have to be complex… without making it so difficult to access and use data to conduct business and live. Mat suggests biometrics (er… it’s like ‘fingerprinting’ on steroids) as something to try:

Devices might require a biometric confirmation just to use them. (Android phones can already pull this off, and given Apple’s recent purchase of mobile-biometrics firm AuthenTec, it seems a safe bet that this is coming to iOS as well.) Those devices will then help to identify you: Your computer or a remote website you’re trying to access will confirm a particular device. Already, then, you’ve verified something you are and something you have. But if you’re logging in to your bank account from an entirely unlikely place—say, Lagos, Nigeria—then you may have to go through a few more steps. Maybe you’ll have to speak a phrase into the microphone and match your voiceprint. Maybe your phone’s camera snaps a picture of your face and sends it to three friends, one of whom has to confirm your identity before you can proceed.

Norman BA$E – “Poo Poo” (Video)

Nice beat by Bruce Lee, and I like the flows Norman BA$E puts down on “Poo Poo.” I cannot even remember how this video came to my attention, but I am glad it did. Good stuff. I’ll share what I have learned about Austin, Texas (by way of Troy, New York) emcee Norman BA$E so far (with the expectation that more info will come later on this up-and-comer).

Noticed on the YouTube video page, that Norman BA$E has a mixtape coming out soon: “Norman BA$E Presents The Death Of Ill Kha-LiL.” Aha – a clue! Learned that Norman BA$E has used Ill Kha-LiL as an artist alias… and there’s a Myspace page for that alias (don’t laugh yet, ’cause I posted on Myspace’s comeback effort a while back) that had an old interview clip giving personal insights from BA$E himself. Score! Check that out after the jump.
